Bad wording from me, level points and bonus points.

So how many level points do you earn per EUR or USD spent on the upgrade?

Fixed points amounts for the upgrade. As I wrote max 3000 from Economy to business class on a long haul flight. Lowest is 250 for domestic (post October 1) or intra Scandinavia (pre October 1)

A follow up question, if one person in our family gets EBG then how many passengers in a reservation can select seats for free? It's so annoying to have to pay USD 600 extra to select seats in business for a family of four.

All of them

The answer is in the FAQ of this thread. But it says BASIS points. What's that? My head is spinning. Wasn't it Basic before and now Bonus and Level points. So you would get 1500 Level points today for a Plus to Bus upgrade across the Atlantic?

Why does Go to Business get twice the points? Do they typically pay double for the upgrade?

**************************************************

Within and between Sweden, Denmark (incl The Faeroe Islands), Norway, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia
  • SAS Go to SAS Plus: 250 Basispoints
To, from, and within other European countries:
  • SAS Go to SAS Plus: 500 Basispoints
To and from Asia and the US:
  • SAS Go to SAS Plus: 1500 Basispoints
  • SAS Plus to SAS Business: 1500 Basispoints
  • SAS Go to SAS Business: 3000 Basispoints

Basis points was bonus points and level points rolled in to one. Or rather basis points were split in to bonus points and level points.

Someone misspelling basic makes your head spin? Basic = level points.
And yes, upgrading from economy to business is more expensive than from plus and therefore grants more points.

Well, you have basic, bonus, extra, status, level..... points. And then basis. Maybe it was the term used in Swedish and the other Scandi languages?
But CPH Flyer has another explanation.

About to switch award tickets CPH - JFK currently on AF via CDG to SK. Flying in coach or maybe plus. A few questions … all advice appreciated. I am STE+. Wife no status

I can book Y and there are two bulk head duo seats on A333 available. As STE+ do I have to pay $69 ea for these seats?

As for Plus, I can book that instead of Y. If I do can I select seats at booking?

Or what are normal bids for Y to Plus (range will do).

lastly, if I have to pay for Y seats and win bid for Plus, can I use the Y seat fee to secure Plus seats?

Thank You

They have live bidding now ex USA and SAS is trying to get me to bid more. I was told that I am number 4-7 (I have 4 in my party) with the highest at USD 780. The seatmap indicated that only a dozen seats in business were taken yesterday. Also the live bidding demands USD 500, which is higher than my bid. The min was 380. This is for Plus to Business. My instinct tells me that there are a lot more than 7 seats available.

I should also add that Plus is oversold Only 2 seats were available the day before and I took 20H when I logged on at T-28, which was the only seat left. It is a good seat so at least I have something to bargain with. So 3 people in my party don't have seats.

If you want to make sure, try a search for 9 PAX and continue downwards if no Business-tickets available. Only way to make sure unless you have access to booking-data/load factor.

I was thinking of subscribing to Expertflyer. But the flight here is C2 Y2 and E9 from what I can tel from making a dummy reservation.. There are only 6 seats on the seatmap in C if I make a dummy reservation. Decisions, decisions. So they are probably going to keep this going until 6 hours before the flight? Right now I would get 2 business seats or do they not give me anything unless my entire party of 4 makes it?

I SAS bluffing in this process? Why would anyone bid USD 780? More than double. But some people are bidding with miles and how do they rank people in Go? I would expect something like 780 would be the min bid from Go.

gnaget Jul 9, 2025 7:46 am

People are bidding like crazy, now up to USD 1032. SAS suggests that you bid one dollar above the highest bid or 10% higher and I think people are going for the latter. Do they think that they need the highest bid to get the upgrade??? It started at USD 380 min nid weeks aago and then when it went live the min bid became USD 500.

I think the 6 seats on the seat map that I see from a dummy boking is accurate, but most people will not know this and think they need to "win".

But one question is how do they differentiate bids from Go versus bids from Plus? How do they translate mileage bids to USD?

gnaget Jul 11, 2025 1:13 am

I ended 10-13th (4 seats) on the list with a bid of $551. One of my competitors was also a party of 4 because I went up to 6-9 when I made my highest bid and then nearly immediately dropped back shortly thereafter. I noticed that the seatmap for the dummy reservation (which updates in real time!) had dropped to 1 just before the bidding ended. At the airport they had 2 seats available, which they offered for %670. (So people had paid around $1100 in the bidding??) I declined because they had given us a row of 4 in Plus so the two of us remaining would have been next to strangers probably. A moment later the station manager offered an op-upgrade to someone checking in next to us. They told us that Plus was oversold by 7.

So, I think that C actually had many seats available and that the best bids were upgraded.before the live bidding started. C was C2 not because C was full but because Y was oversold and Go looked full when I went back there to go to the toilet. Does that make sense? I guess that I should have been more "generous" in my original bid.

Also interesting that the flight was C2 and that 2 seats were available at checkin 2 hours before departure. So I think they hold on to 2 seats for last minute purchases and operational reasons.

it would be useful to know if you were bidding form Go or Plus. I assume that you were bidding for business.

Also with monetary bidding they tell you the highest bid, which would be interesting to know. This ties into how they weigh cash vs miles and bidding from Go vs Plus........

My recent experience with live bidding is that it is a bit of a scam.
