Check in is the best. But YMMV depending on whether SAS staff are operating the counter.

Please give an update for checkin upgrade costs as they might have increased them for 2025!

Booked a trip to Tokyo with the promo they have going on now, but only managed to get the return in Go/Y. What are typical low bids in cash/points going from Go - Business? Current minimums are $700 / 42k points for Business or $330 / 20k points for Plus.

They released an award instead, so managed to "upgrade" for additional 6k points and 1 SEK, oddly enough no rebooking fee.

So you cancelled and made a new booking straight to business or rebooked the existing one into business?

Rebooked directly. Tbh, first time I booked pure SAS award since they changed the fees to 750 SEK/75 EUR, so I could be wrong, but pretty sure I should've paid the fee for the change.

Sounds like a good deal in the end then – you paid a marginally higher amount in miles and skipped the rebooking fee altogether :tu:

Indeed! I put in a minimum bid at 42k points, which would make the total points price at 90k, assuming it would've gone through, but this way I paid 54k and 1 SEK more ;)

SK904 (A330-300) EWR-ARN 37,000 points Economy - Business ✅

I bid the absolute minimum about 1 week before departure. Minimum bid threshold didn’t change during that time. Upgrade confirmed around T-26hrs.

SK 915 (CPH-JFK)
34000 points
Economy to Business ✅️

Bid was the minimum.

There was plenty of availability at the time of bid three days ago and up until bidding closed (19 open seats in Biz)

Got notified at T-24 hours.

Pity that SK ARN-CPH-JFK was cheaper than AFKLM connecting in AMS or CDG. So I won't get entry into the awesome D1 lounge. Can't wait for the seasonal DL ARN-JFK route to return. But happy with more space and privacy.

DL205 resumes on April 15th, DL204 on April 14th. Can not wait for this to return either for East Coast destinations.

SK 928 (BOS-CPH)
34000 points
Plus to Business ✅️

Bid was the minimum. Thought about doing the cash upgrade, but decided against as it only would have gotten me 1500 level points and the price per point was abysmal.

Got notified at T-25 hours before departure. 11 seats open at the time I made my bid 10 days ago. There were still 5 seats open as of the time of this post. So not much uptake on the upgrades it seems.

In truth, it's not my favourite SAS plane as its the A321 Neo single aisle plane. Which means the biz seats are a bit more constricted (the footwells are smaller). But I got a "throne" seat so I am happy.
Sadly no D1 Lounge access, but the normal Sky Club at Terminal E in Boston is roomy and gorgeous.

Decent value for this bid?

The Delta One lounge access rules are unnecessarily strict, in my opinion. Nowadays even AF/KL biz passengers won't get access to the Delta One in Boston... "Due to capacity constraints".. blah blah

Value is entirely subjective. Point for point, if you don't care where you sit, BOS-CPH is probably poor value because it usually benefits from good tail winds and decent routing. We left 10 minutes early and arrived 45 minutes early (and that feels typical of my last four flights on that route). For me, the value comes from the more spacious seat and not having anyone sit next to me. If I could get the exit row seat in Go and a guaranteed free seat next to me, I would have no problem flying Go on that route. But I was originally booked in Plus and I know lots of people upgrade from Go to Plus so no chance of an empty free seat next to me.

I've been in the D1 Lounge in Boston on a DL ticket. Honestly, you're only missing out if the table-side service is what you really want. Otherwise, perfectly good and delicious options in the main lounge, especially as the SK flight leaves early evening so you get to the lounge when it is not busy and everything is fresh. Of my date of travel, there were BBQ spare ribs, BBQ chicken, four salads, two soups, great side dishes, Italian pastries from a North End bakery, slides and wraps, and a well-stocked bar. I ate and drank like a king - which was fortunate because most of the food on the SK flight was inedible. Besides the prestige factor, I would actually prefer main lounge to the D1 Lounge in Boston.

Now the JFK D1 Lounge is a different matter entirely :)

Thanks for the input – I'm yet to fly on the SAS A321LR so it's good to get some feedback on the experiences. Most of the US east coast-Europe hops are quite short indeed, especially in the direction you flew in, so the value is indeed subjective.

As for the Delta One Lounge in Boston, I was there twice after their opening last year when they still allowed AFKL biz pax to enter, curious to try it out again in a few weeks when I have a departure out of BOS.

The JFK one seems to be on an entirely different level but we can leave that discussion for another thread :tu: :)

I have a bid submitted for 2 of us from Plus -> Biz on EWR-CPH in a few days (below current minimum). Right now I don't have seat assignments, and the seats in plus cabin are starting to fill up. Should I go ahead an check in at T-30 to get seat assignment, or will that make the upgrade bid complicated?

BTW the flight shows fare availability per below right now. Does that mean biz still has at least 7 seats open? I thought J was full fare business so am not sure why J0 C7

Check-in and current seat assignments has no effect on upgrade bids.
J is the cheapest booking class in business for SAS (and many other airlines). With C7 D5 Z2 J0 Y7 S0 I wouldn't be surprised if plus is already full or even oversold, but there can be many bidders.
