Not eligible to bid on a Plus to Business upgrade?

Appreciate any insight

As do I! This is my first time booking a flight on SAS so I apologize in advance for my cluelessness. :o

A couple of weeks ago I booked a roundtrip Plus ticket departing in early June -- I know, ages from now! -- on the brand new SEA-CPH route which starts running in late May.

I was curious about the process of bidding on an upgrade from Plus to Business class, so a few days after I received my booking confirmation I checked the SAS app and saw a box under my itinerary that stated Place your bid for an upgrade to Business Class with a button labeled PLACE BID

But when I clicked on the button it returned the message no flights to upgrade. (??)

I tried this a few times over the last couple of weeks with the same result. Which seems odd, because the SAS website states that on intercontinental routes one can make a bid from the day the trip is booked, but that's not the case here.

I messaged the Customer Service Chatbot (Turi), which pulled up my booking but then informed me:

"Unfortunately, you aren’t eligible for a class upgrade at the moment. But you can always try to buy one at the airport."

I tried to get more details from the bot as to why I was "not eligible" to bid on an upgrade, but no joy. (I don't think it's worth it to phone Customer Service about this).

So, I thought I'd ask here -- has anyone had a situation where bidding for an upgrade on an SAS intercontinental ticket was not available soon after booking? Could this be because it's still way too long a time before departure, or, perhaps because the SEA to CPH route is brand new and has simply not yet been entered into the upgrade system? Should I just chill out & assume the bidding option will show up eventually? :D (the bot did say I wasn't eligible "at the moment")

Thanks!

If I had to make a guess, they have not opened it for the new route yet.....

Hi all,

Asking for someone else - which I believe I already know the answer. They are booked under 1 reservation - 4 pax. Currently, one of the pax would like to do the place a bid for the upgrade. I understand with the bid system, all 4 pax needs to upgrade/bid.
If only 1 of them wants it, I will need to call SAS to separate this 1 pax from the booking. The problem here is that this pax who wants to do the upgrade is EB Gold, and if I remove this pax, the whole group will also lose their seat assignments, right?

Since I've never flown myself intercontinental with SAS before, if the pax just wants to upgrade the transatlantic leg, 1st flight is a feeder from AMS - where would this pax need to check for upgrade options from Plus to J? I believe in CPH.

Would this be possible when the connection time in CPH is just 1+ hours? I believe so as at AMS, these 3rd party ground agents will not have any power to make any changes.
Are prices normally higher compared to the bid value?

Cheers!

if they are able to separate the booking then the upgrading passenger should be able to bid for the upgrade on the app but they will likely need to get a new booking number and bid to upgrade that leg.

the other passengers might lose the free seating but if they are already assigned maybe not. That I’m not sure of. You can ask at the airport on upgrades. They do offer it there too if available

Hi, first time commenting so please bear with me if I am far behind everyones knowledge. I am looking for flights from OSL-ATL end of oct/first week of nov. The prices are kinda insane on business being $2600 from Oslo and between 1200-1600$ for the return, totaling to over $4000. Expertflyer shows quite alot seats open in business, does anyone know why prices have skyrocketed? Also, anyone on these booking lately, what has the bid been from CPH-ATL? I would much rather pay the $250 in Sas go and then pay $800 for an upgrade than to pay $4000. Anyone been flying from Europe to NY/Miami/Atlanta/DC with SAS that could give any insight? Any dates from 28th oct-5th Nov would work! Thank you:)

the seatmap does not indicate seats sold/unsold only seats selected not selected. Not everyone selects seats as its not allways free

What's going on with SK 932?

So the SK 932 departure Nov 1, changed aircraft about a month ago and the SAS Plus seats in the current aircraft is much smaller. Basically, everything seems to be booked and there's only 8 days left before the flight.

I'm curious why the starting bid for Business is only $340...when it's a full flight. I thought prices then to fluctuate to the higher end when it gets closer to departure?

Sorry, just new at this. I just wanna get some insight.

if the flight is sold out in business the airline won’t be accepting the bids anyway so it doesn’t really matter how high or low the bid amount is. If there is a lot of availability in business, you will normally see minimum bid dropping closer to the flight. However in this case there are no available seats so maybe they have it there as a back up in case someone bo shows or cancels.

There is the possibility that a couple of the seats in Biz are held for Plus passengers that cannot be accommodated in their ticketed cabin due to the equipment change. In these instances, my experience is that SK will gladly accept a minimum bid rather than hand out an op-up.

CPH-ORD
2024-10-20
Go to Biz
5250 sek min bid
5500 sek accepted (diamond booster)

ORD-CPH
2024-10-24
Go to Biz
37000 points min bid
45000 points accepted (diamond booster)

My colleague had a bid of 2500 sek accepted for ORD-CPH with silver booster. Min was 2500 sek.

Minimum bids didn't change in the 2 weeks prior to departure. Likely could have gotten away with a lower bid for ORD-CPH but I was not feeling well and didn't want to risk it.

As I posted before, I was one of the folks who ended up not having an assigned seat for SAS Plus after it changed aircraft.
