Fingers crossed then!

Also just wondering - doing OLCI and selecting seats for our party shouldn’t cancel out the bid upgrade right? Ie, there’s no reason not to check in? I have seen some pretty messed up airline IT over the years and tend to get nervous about silly things because I’ve seen them go wrong too many times…

(We put the seat selection budget into the bid hoping it works out! We are lowly Silvers on SK and my Skyteam Elite plus doesn’t count for anything, I was hoping the phone agent would let me book seats on our return trip in September but he said they are fully Star Alliance until Sep 1 and no sky team benefits will start to be applied until then)

The online check in will not affect anything. When you check in it will check you in at your current class of travel and then it may update immediately after but could take up to six hours before the flight. They will assign you seats at that point if you are upgraded. You may or may not be seated together but if not it’s pretty easy to accommodate on the plane. Also, if you don’t get it you will also be notified that you did not get it. Check at the airport though if you get denied. I’ve only been unsuccessful once and it was because the flight was completely full. This is my experience only so hopefully this all stands for you too.

Do you know prices for upgrades at airport in relationship to min bid online. Like plus will never fill up ever and min bid was 170 initially and went to 250. Could upgrade at airport go back to 170? Thanks

I don’t really know about plus too much but be aware you may get a middle seat. If your upgrade goes through it may be for a middle and depending on your feelings about that it may not be ideal. If I were upgrading to plus, I would do it at the airport after confirming seat selection. As far as the pricing, it could go back to that if there are a lot of seats to sell. It just comes down to personal preference.

Just paid 569 to upgrade from economy to Buisness from Atlanta to Copenhagen.. Does this include lounge at CPH?

Thanks

Minimum bid from CPH to LAX was $700 for business and $400 for premium economy. I bid $850 and $450. I never received an email confirming if my bid was accepted or rejected, so I inquired at the gate about upgrades. Business was $950 and premium economy was $350 and I ended up taking premium.

SK offers access to the lounges on arrival for long haul J. If you don't have a connecting, you would need to follow the signs for connecting flights rather than arrivals as the arrivals route can lead you to baggage claim without a chance to reach the lounge.

Updated data point

was outbid on EWR-CPH tonight

went in with a strong bid of 765 USD, admittedly though for 7 passengers

it did seem like there were enough seats because they were selling 9+ in business class last night

Interestingly, nothing happened at the 25 hour mark, and just got the email at 6 hours about being outbid

There was some speculation earlier in the thread about whether economy vs premium economy bids are treated the same, and I very strongly doubt that a bunch of premium economy passengers suddenly ponied up strong bids for business (and I had the silver benefit boost), especially as the PE seat map remains mostly unchanged. I suspect they treat all bids the same at this point in time (Economy vs PE) as it is cash in hand for them, which while frustrating is a shortsighted way for them to maximize revenue. I guess the same could be said of people who outright purchased business - who could be frustrated at people getting the same service and spending much less but it happens with op ups and other situations all the time to be fair. I can’t help but think though that it does create a sort of bizarre backwards incentive for buying cheap economy tickets and putting in high bids. Of course it’s all speculation and for all I know, they just could have not had seats. Curious to see what others’ thoughts are.

I believe you are right. It’s all about the money on the day. I used to buy PE and upgrade to business thinking I would be given preference over economy bidders. Not the case. I bought economy at 300 and then got denied on 561 or so on business. Got it at the airport for 569 and there was no difference for economy passengers and premium economy. The business seat just cost 569 and if you were willing to pay that you could upgrade. I personally won’t buy plus again unless it’s a super deal which I did get for December so worst case I’ll go plus but if I had an economy ticket and could not get the business seat, I would just then buy the plus upgrade at the airport. I truly don’t think your current ticket matters when considering the upgrades.

Atl-cph for 8/20.

Bid $140 from go to plus shortly after booking, the minimum bid at the time. Minimum increased to $170 then $240. Bid accepted right at 25 hours out.

I'd say that is rather high, but should let you win the bid.
Afaik the non-bid standard airport upgrade amount from Economy to Business was 50k points last time I did a fixed price upgrade at the airport.

Mjoellnir Aug 26, 2024 11:58 pm

ok thank you. I consider lowering the bid.
Edit: now at 35k :)

I have scolling past early post and is it fair the say the 170 (euro) is the lowest minimum bid for SAS Plus? Or should i wait any longer hoping the min would drop?
It's for a flight between CPH - IAD.

Unless having a connecting flight passport you wont make it though in CPH or OSL, only ARN allows you to get to departure area after passport control without a boarding pass.
