SK932 LAX->CPH Plus->Business Minimum bid was $240, bid $400 (with enhanced EB silver benefit). About a week out the minimum bumped to $720. Bumped the bid to $720 about 7 hrs before flight and lost anyway.

just goes to show you that minimum bid number is a complete fake that has nothing to do with actual availability. good on you for sticking with the lower bid instead of being tricked into paying more.

Just my humble opinion…
without outright buying the class you want to travel in you can just never know what will happen on any given day. A lot of people are traveling right now & if as you say, you don’t care about 2000 pts, then I would think worth the bid because if you don’t get it & cannot upgrade at airport… then what…are you ok with it…only you can decide if it’s worth that risk!

I totally agree! Thankfully this is the daytime nonstop so I’m fine with Plus. I’m in Revenue biz on the redeye return.

I think I will leave it just out of curiosity for the data point about these upgrades. Already 14/24 seats are assigned, so there’s a risk I fly it in Plus. I am solo on this trip so I don’t mind either way.

of course it’s easy to say all this right now, let’s see how I feel when this flight is three days out lol

Anyone have any recent experience bidding for an upgrade inter Europe? Let's say LHR-OSL? How far out can they accept your bid? Ours is currently $50. Looks pretty open on EF.
Second question, our ticket is LHR-TRD, with a stop in OSL, if we get the upgrade bid for the LHR-OSL leg, do we get lounge access in OSL as well as LHR?

SK913 (CPH JFK on the A321) . I was with my two kids on one economy reservation as an EBG. My wife was on a separate reservation as an EBS, also in econ.

We elected to not bid for upgrade since splitting up would be weird. Nonetheless, me and the kids got booted up to plus, and my wife got booted up to biz. I was quite surprised as I thought that random op-ups were a thing of the past! Guess summer travel is a bit different than rest of year...

Can't remember exact minimum bid, but it was 'normal' rates. when I checked.

We flew back to CPH in (paid for) Plus on the a350 from boston-- side note, it was really striking how much better the plus product is on the narrowbody. wider seat and more private cabin...

Random op-ups are far from a thing of the past. They still happen, and while it ,ay seem on FT that a lot of people are bidding, I suspect that it is a small group, but that group is typically well represented here on FT. Which is why op-ups still do happen. Summer vacation time probably a better time to get them, less business travel, but airlines will want close to full flights still, so they oversell the lower cabins.

Question, so flying from Atlanta to CPG and when I saw the upgrade price to Plus was 170 I didn't bid yet, 1 week later it went to 250 and I didnt want to spend that and still waiting for it to drop before Thursdays take off. Question I have is if I don't go through bid and I know they wont sell out Plus, if I ask for upgrade at airport to Plus will it be cheaper than the 250 or at least be the original 170 extra? Thanks.

If you don't want to pay more, stick with the 170.People have gotten their bids approved even if the minimum have gone above it. If you don't get it, ask at the airport. There is no quite knowing what they'll ask for the the upgrade at the airport.

I didn't do the 170 initially so I didn't get a chance to bid 170. If i knew it would raise I would have but never seen it raise in past. My question is have people had experiences trying to get upgrade at airport and what price has it been and is it negotiable?

Thanks

Ahhh.... I read it as you had placed the bid.

I doubt very much it is negotiable.

It is not negotiable at the airport. They will
tell you the upgrade price if it is available. I think it’s busier in the summer. I upgraded to business at the airport in December. It was more than the minimum bid ask was online. The minimum was 450. I bid 565 and the upgrade cost was 569 so it was a no brainer for us.

Called to ask about a straight up business upgrade price (2 days before travel) - the phone rep said they don’t do that over the phone anymore and it’s only at airport… in case anyone was wondering about the process (or alternatively, if that’s not the case should I throw down a HUCA)

I don’t really understand how we can upgrade at airport if it’s after when the upgrade bids are usually run?

I put in a “strong” bid - will report back as to what happens!

In my experience with this strong bids typically go through unless there is no space available. They do the airport bids I think because they may not have gotten the price they want (many minimum bids) and they have a fixed price in mind for what they will sell it for.
