Bid 360 EUR to upgrade from Plus to Business JFK-CPH on a Saturday night flight this month and got a Medium, so I am keeping fingers crossed. I've increased it a couple of times from 320 to 340 (both Weak) to 360. May be overbidding as the minimum has stayed at 300 EUR but I really would like Business on the eastbound. Going to stay put at that bid though. Won't be too bummed if I lose as the Plus fare was bought on sale quite cheap and I did reserve the bulkhead with the leg rest so I am already ahead of the game.

EDIT 11/15: Brought the bid up 10 to 370 EUR where I am really staying put, lol. I am cautiously optimistic with it just 8 days away now...

Long-time lurker; first time poster. :) I've been watching this thread for the past six months and learning lots. But now that we're down to just 10 days until my flight, I'm nervous about my bid and feel I could use a bit of hand-holding/reassurance. The whole entire time, the minimum bid has been so much higher than what anyone here has talked about ... could it really be that popular of a flight?! It's 932 from LAX to CPH on a Sunday, and minimum is currently $760 for Business and $360 for Plus. (That's down from $1220 and $600 respectively!)

I haven't told my family about the bid; I figure if I don't get it, it's best for just one person to be disappointed than all of us.

Because it's all art and luck instead of science, there really isn't sage advice to offer.

However, flights returning to Europe are always more competitive than flights to Europe because want the bed overnight. And quite likely a Sunday is probably more competitve than a Saturday because you'll have travellers who are flying for business and they get work to pay for business class - so reduced inventory for bids. Thanksgiving week may also be playing a role, but less likely.

It's really best not to focus on it until a few days before as it can change a ton of times.

The best guidance I can give is to have a range in mind regarding what you're willing to pay per flight hour fornyour upgrade. I start low and the raise it as needed. Then it's up to fate.

sk932 on the 24th is very full in Plus and in J so that could be why the minimums are so high C4 business and Y3 for plus…

.

Agree exactly with what dark_phoenix mentioned about it being a Sunday & going east. Otherwise it is just never possible to figure this sort of thing, it is all supply /demand perhaps along with some luck ..if cabins though are full, which is more the norm with travel trends these days than not, then it’s less likely low bids will be accepted & perhaps if any seats are even left available, only a few of the highest bids may go through at end.

I don’t know if what your original ticket cost (vs the outright cost of just purchasing bsns class at booking) is considered by SAS when initially providing you minimum bid suggestions, but for you, I’d think definitely worth considering when putting in your bids. While people have reported getting some very low cost upgrades, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to pay something much higher but still well below the average cost of a transatlantic bsns class seat, which is already typically much lower on SAS at the outright to begin with.

Just my .02, good luck & safe travels!!

In the upgrade bid process how common is it for bida to be processed day of departure or are they processed at random times?

departure is monday and both plus and J seem very empty according to EF

Oh, that’s a great point! Despite it literally being called “business” class, I did not even think about the Sunday biz travelers bookending their workweek. (Doh.) That makes a ton of sense.

I want that lie-flat bed for overnight too… $100/hr for that leg of the trip seems worth it to me (original tickets were cheap, around $200 for that leg of the itinerary). We’ll see what the fates allow!

I have been on the waitlist for CPH-BKK for 3 or so months now, business seems empty and even now with checkin open its still very light on the seat maps for both business and Plus, expertflyer shows Y9 and JC 9 so I assume a light load

minimum bid has been 27000p or 450€ from plus to J since months ago when I looked so will be intresting to see if they acceps minimums or sell at the airport.

very odd if SK is this light to BKK with a 3x weekly and Finnair goes pretty full daily sometimes 2x daily

and now sk is offering bonus seats in business class on tonights flight instead of upgrading me 😎 evidently changing to a redemption J from redemption plus is not easy

I have to say the SK upgrade system is very odd, starting to remember why I left eurobonus years ago.

i tried changing my PLuS ticket to J was told its not possible, then searched again and found all I need to do is pay the mlilage difference and 75€ so I call back and of course the seat was gone 😎🙈

oh well, I would have gladly paid the 75€ fee to secure my upgrade but evidently that is a no go ubless you het the right agent 🙈

Ah, thanks for all the follow up! Glad you got the upgrade after all! I am somewhat anxious how my bid for my flight on Saturday will turn out, mine is a cash bid on a cash fare though.
