BOS-CPH Successful Economy->Plus
06 May on SK928, minimum was 205, bid 235. Bid was classified as “weak.”
Both tickets upgraded. Notable that mine was the lowest Y fare, Go Light. Don’t ask. I’m ashamed I made that mistake, too. ;) Timothy |
IAD CPH Upgrade 5/23
Booked PE with Virgin Points last fall (prior to becoming a SAS millionaire). Couldn't get it on Flying blue or any other skyteam program.
Bid from PE to J was up around 34,000 points and 640 (?) euros from November until 1 month ago then dropped to 25,000 and 340 euros where it remained Initially put in a bit for 27,500 x 2 as "weak." 1 hour before T-25 kind of freaked out due to seeing Boston cancelled tomorrow night and J reducing even before T-25 (after remaining very open) Increased bid to 30,000 x 2 (medium)... high roller... I know. But got it at T-25. J went from having 21 open seats to now being mostly full. So a lot of movement. The 47,500 virgin points + 30,000 SAS points per person did not make for a great redemption, but due to catching a boat really wanted to be on this direct flight.... so for biz class on the exact flight I needed... I'll take it... and besides.... I am a SAS millionaire ;) I am EEB (blue) |
Some info regarding the "new" live-bidding, also correct me if I'm wrong, but noticed this while live-bidding.
If you're part of the live-bidding, whenever you update your bid (upwards), that will become your new minimum. If you withdraw your bid, the "market" minimum will apply. 1. I had my bid at 26.000, but was ranked 9 2. Bid 35.000 just to see what ranking I had (Still 9) 3. Bid 42.000 (My reasoning was that I could go back to 35k after, jjust wanted to see what ranking I'd get with Gold-boost) 4. Noticed that the new minimum became 42.000, so couldn't 5. Thought I'd withdraw my bid, maybe the old minimum would come back (Don't wanna bid too much for such a short flight) 6. New minimum became 85.000 7. New plan: Check if upgrade is possible at airport... |
Had SK527 ARN-LHR for 31 May booked on SAS Go.
Minimum bid 50 EUR. Placed a Bid for 55 EUR, and it cleared through. |

the minimum bid was 340 Euro, I made a 350 Euro bid. A week before the flight, the minimum bid was increased to 460 Euro, but I did not increase mine. Got upgraded exactly 24 hrs and 15 min before the departure. Another strange thing is that I booked 4 seats in Plus and only 5 seats are available on the seatmap. There was no indication of "5 left" when I booked it, so they are ready to overbook Plus significantly? Which suggests large availability in C. .Are any seats in Plus blocked (like bulkhed infant) on the A350? Bottom line, is it likely that the min will drop and is it possible to rescind the old bid if the minimum drops? And can I actually see the new minimum later? I guess it's possible that ca. USD 380 is the bottom for IAD-CPH but have seen prices in the 200s in the thread for other routes. p.s. Interesting that the min bid is EUR 341, SEK 3830 and USD 380. So USD is the lowest at current exchange rate. |

I have to say that I found 350 Euro a fair price for the W->J upgrade on this route. The dinner is expedited and simplified to maximize sleep time. I had five hours of very solid sleep, followed by a very good brunch. The only problem appears to be related to the long passport control queues in CPH, but that's beyond their control I guess. |

Yes, the minimum bid can drop, and you can adjust and even withdraw your bid. If the minimum bid goes up, your new bid cannot be lower than the minimum bid, but your old bid (now under the minimum bid) remains valid.

Another factor is that I am requesting 4 seats in business or 10% of the cabin, so by placing an early bid then I reduce the probability of SAS offering a lower bid min as the date approaches. (For one person that's not really a factor.) I was actually successful in 2022 in bidding for 4 seats on very short notice (booked like a week ahead) with at most a dozen seats available for a "reasonable" price in the USD 300 range. ORD-CPH. That was the last time that I tried bidding. I recall that Go was oversold and not many seats in Plus, so then there is motivation to keep the bid floor low since otherwise they are doing op upgrades.Have purchased business or flown other airlines with the family since then. |

Thanks. You wrote W class. That's normally a Go/Eco booking class unless things have changed. That's a shame about the passport queues. We have a 55 min connection to ARN........ Last year, we arrived in the morning and they were shuttling ARN connections to the front of the queue. I am surprised that it's busy around midday. Danish cops taking a long lunch break?
I had a 45 min connection, which I missed of course, and I got rebooked on the next flight (4 hrs later). |

Hi, flew SAS premium cabins for the first time(s)!
booked SAS Plus, hoping to upgrade to Business. SK 928 BOS-CPH - 24-May - min bid $380, I bid $450, 6 seats remaining. Weak bid. Got an email T-24 that I am 9th on the list with the highest bid at $925. I upped my bid to $503, no change in rankings. I did not push after. SAS Plus still awesome for overnight TATL. SK 927 CPH-BOS - 8-Jun - min bid $470, I bid $503.. Weak bid. No email, on T-24, got confirmation on T-6. Got Seat 1D - large footwell! I enjoyed it. Didn’t maybe maximize the benefits of the lie-flat since I only napped for 1 hour. |

How did you know that it only had 6 seats? Expertflyer? I would expect a much higher minimum unless they are overbooked in Go/Plus. USD 380 seems to be the default minimum ex USA. That's what my flight IAD-CPH has one month out with seemingly empty business class. There is also an indication that Plus might be on the verge of being oversold. Go had cheap seats for sale.
Also I forgot to add this was on an A330. |

Yeah, ExpertFlyer is where I checked at the time. I was originally booked at Plus, so I saw that it was about half full from SAS seat selection (The window-aisle pairs were mostly full but the 3 in the middle was fairly empty)
Also I forgot to add this was on an A330. My perspective on Plus vs Business is that it's huge. In the old days they had Nicolas Feuillatte champers in Plus, which made it quite OK overall. I wonder if it will come back after they eliminate Plus intraeurope in October. Unlikely....... The food in Plus is not very good. I got food poisoning on my last Plus longhaul. |

Interesting. Yeah, the 330 is better than the 350 for Plius. It has more seats in Plus (56 vs 32) and 2-3-2 vs 2-4-2. I suppose that having the 8 extra in business on the 350 is better for upgrades. Plus on the 321 is terrible because the cheap seats will sell out quickly because there are so few.

As for comparing the products: They are different segments. I'm perfectly happy in Plus as long as I don't have blocked access to the aisle: the seats fold back quite far making it difficult to get out. You're provided with a decent blanket that in my case helps with my sleep compared to the plastic blanket in economy class. I rarely go much above minimum bid for upgrades to business class. As gnaget noted, the A330 is better for Plus because of the layout. My main annoyance in Plus is that you have to order drinks in one go and recently there have been reports on cutbacks in what is included in your meal. Overall, Plus is a product I'm very happy with. Business of course is business and I think the SAS offering is excellent. My main gripe there is that the seats can often feel like you're sitting on a balloon, as they are air-inflated. I usually deflate them as much as I can, but that then affects the firmness. |
