Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.
They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.
The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.
All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.
Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

But this was your first time flying QR, right? So you've never flown in a QSuite, yes? And your opinion is based only what others have said about it? QSuites are very nice, better than many F products, but not better than EK's F, IMO. In terms of the seat, itself, I find that the QR J generation before the QSuite (i.e., in the 359 and 388) has a more comfortable seat. Where the QSuite excels, of course, is privacy.

I’ve flown on probably 20+ segments of EK F, and sure it has the “swanky” title to live up to and a shower on the A380. But my ORD-DOH flight was very reminiscent of an EK F flight on a 777. Sure there are more seats on QR, but to compensate QR puts more FA’s in the J cabin. I had excellent and personal service. Not to mention all the dining is ala carte just like EK F and Qatar FA’s were really accommodating regarding eating whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted, again reminiscent of EK F.
The seat/bed was just as private, and comfortable as a 777 EK F seat (if not more so). The only real difference I found between EK F and Qsuites was that 1. There is no shower 2. The entertainment system is better on EK. Other than that I’d happily take Qsuites again on a long flight.

You didn’t read the original post. My first flight from Chicago to Doha had the Qsuite. I booked 4 flights that were Qsuite assigned. 1/4 flights ended up actually HAVING the Qsuite.

But EK F suite is much wider and spacious. Wines are much better too..
That being said, I love 777 QRsuites for a couple.

I had Qsuite from BKK last week. It is very private. Almost too private. It looked like the cabin crew spends most of their time huddled in the galley with very little interaction. I miss the a380 on the BKK route. Love the bar and the opportunity to chat with the crew. Yep, these are some pretty heavy first world problems lol

It is like the time I tried ringing a bell at home whenever I needed anything. My wife and kids threw that bell away in record time!

I've flown Qsuite many times and have never had to hit the call button. I've heard that some QR crews are more active than others, but never had an issue personally. Curious what you needed the button for? Meals? Snacks? Drinks? Sleeper suite?

Only to ask for meals and/or drink refills. Otherwise the FAs always proactively closed the suite door.
It was that way for me on all 4 QSuite segments. It wasn’t a bother for me, it just felt a tad impersonal.
Not sure how else you would order food on demand, sans going over to the galley and requesting. I did not want to congregate in the aisle as they were moving about.

I'm looking to book flights for late March 2020 to check out QSuites on a trip to India, and I've read a lot about QR and their aircraft swaps. Does anyone have an opinion on which US routes get swapped the least? Currently it's looking like I can go through ORD, BOS, or PHL for my dates (based out of CVG). Any idea if I should pick one connecting airport over another?

Having said that I was hugely impressed with my QSuites experiences, and as has been said it's not just the hard product, it's the crew and the crewax ratio which is roughly the same as you'd find on BA F. The only thing lacking compared to BA F as far as I can tell is cloth towels and flowers although I am sure others can find other differences.

I've always had an FA come by during boarding or shortly after takeoff to ask me what I'd like for the main meal and when I want it, as well as what I want to drink before and with the meal. On longer flights I always use the opportunity to pre-order a second meal for two hours before landing. I always ask for a sleeper suit and mattress pad at the same time.

Sorry for being unclear. When the FA comes by during boarding (or shortly after takeoff) to ask what I'd like for my main and what I'd like to drink before and with the meal, at that time I say when I want the main meal, also on longer flights I pre-order a second meal and ask that it be served two hours before landing. I generally ask for a sleeper suit and mattress pad during the initial welcome onboard by an FA.
