Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Which routes have Qsuites?
Details and changes can be found in the various recent threads.

As to other routes NO ONE KNOWS!

I repeat NO ONE KNOWS!! so do not ask!

This is despite me changing a routing just last week under the same policy for the same reason.
Seems all SIN sectors have changed to an A359 until June 2. Mine included

You might still get lucky and have a QSuite assigned last minute. Looking at the flight history it seems to happen.

To follow up on this, I sought clarification on the policy through Twitter. I think they have some sort of autobot replying to the majority of the messages and it was just talking complete nonsense.. or it wasn't a bot and whoever replies to the messages doesn't have a clue. Anyway it was such a frustrating interaction I asked for a callback and they had someone from the Doha contact centre call me who agreed to change the European legs to a route within 500 miles with QSuite.

What's the best way to get moved to a central pair of seats these days? Any messaging options like Twitter/Whatsapp or do I need to get on the phone...?

I believe if there are two of you it should unlock the middle seats but I may be mistaken. I would probably call if you have no luck.

I believe the WhatsApp service has been discontinued and the Twitter agents are.. how to say... Well, you either get awful automated bot replies or they tell you to call up. They are only able to handle the most basic requests.

Sorry, meant to say there is no longer a generic number for "everyone" whereas there was before if you had QR status or a non-basic J ticket. I tried to message them on the WhatsApp number a few weeks ago. They responded (or the bot did) asking for all the details etc and then replied (only after spending some time explaining my situation and answering the security questions) saying:

We have changed our WhatsApp Number to serve you better

For Baggage related queries, please visit https://haqiba.qatarairways.com.qa/Haqiba and you will be directed to a new number or you can connect to us by clicking Live Chat.

Flight Disruption information will be sent to you through SMS with new WhatsApp number or connect with us on Live Chat via My Trips on https://www.qatarairways.com.

Platinum and Gold customers may refer to their email for new number from Qatar Airway’s Monthly Member Statement email

I'm not exactly sure who it serves better but...

Interesting. It sounds much more complicated. To be honest I don't use WhatsApp so have never explored what QR were offering via that route before. I just remembered the recent email making a point of highlighting it was available. I find the various status contact options very responsive so am happy enough. That doesn't help the newly converted though...

I've had it unlock for two before, but doesn't seem to have done so this time. It's a BA holiday booking on the codeshare though, so things not lining up probably isn't a huge shock.

Coupled with the lack of air vents in the centre rows on this aircraft I'm thinking of keeping 5/7K as the goal of this flight will mainly be to sleep, rather than to chat, but would appreciate if you think it's better to sit/sleep in a centre pair in row 5/7 instead. I absolutely love having a window (my partner is less bothered) so was thinking of the 'true' window seats rather than a J/K pair.

Funnily enough, just got an alert from Expertflyer that our Q Suite 77W has been swapped to a 388 for the SYD-DOH leg in June. It was the leg we had opted for the centre/"couple" pair Q Suite.
I was expecting a swap at some point but not a couple of days after booking!

I'm conflicted - I was keen on 2 QSuite flights but equally the hard product on the 380 looks fine, and I do love an onboard bar... Weirdly the departure time has been bumped back an hour as well, but our landing time is the same. I'm guessing there'll be more changes to come!

So beyond frustrated. Traveling IAD-LHE and confirmed multiple times that we got Qsuites. Traveling with a lap child and a 4 year old and had reserved the E and F seats to have some more space in the double bed configuration. I never got an email about an aircraft change but happened to look at my seats today on the website and the configuration had changed to regular business class seats. Only compensation offered is to delay my trip to 3 days later to fly a Qsuite which is ridiculous. I am so upset. What are the chances they may switch again back to A350-1000 which it was originally and now changed to A350-900?

You should be allowed a rerouting to a destination 500 miles to/from your origin and or destination if this a revenue ticket is booked with QR.

I was offered a re-route option for 3 days later and unfortunately that does not work for us either. Just sucks!

You should be able to reroute from any other US gateway if that worked. In the US this kinda trumps the 500 mile rule.

As to your other query... it may swap back to an A350 with QSuites, you never know. Nor does QR til they come to allocate a specific frame.

I’m guessing they’re fairly reluctant to flex on that 500mi rule? And does there need to be availability in the same fare bucket (or just class?)

I’m guessing it’s unlikely SYD-DOH will go double daily (or drop from a 380); but wondering the chances of switching from DOH-OSL to DOH-LHR for the second flight, so as to still get some QSuite goodness… (and to arrive closer to home)
