Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Indeed - that is true even of my own experiences. Just to recap: first everything was blocked; then all the blocked seats were released and I was able to assign E/F; then they were all blocked again. As of yesterday they were unblocked again. But today they are blocked again!

Which rear-facing Q-suites (on the 359/351) have the best view of the front of the engine and wingtip?

I would suspect further up you can be, the better the angle for the wing and engine. At least that's been my experience on forward facing seats as well as on United's rear facing version.

FWIW, I just booked ORD for July 2019 and the seat map I used to assign myself seats on qatarairways.com shows the Qsuites layout. That doesn't directly answer your question about winter, and they could swap equipment at any time, but I would guess that they will not.

I had a brilliant view of the engine on the 77W seated in 8A. I would imagine the 7A/K, 8B/J, 9A/K to be equivalent

Why? The engine doesn't do anything one can see. The wingtip does flex a bit, which would probably hold my attention for 5 min or so. (I haven't been on QR QSuites yet, but I have flown in a BA CW rear-facing window seat.)

I know Lucky on OMAAT waxed eloquent about his view of the engine from a rear-facing QSuites window seat, but damned if I know why.

To each his own. I've never chosen a seat to get a good view of the engine. but I could see someone doing so. Maybe they just like to see the engine, or maybe they want to take pictures, with the engine and clouds.

Personally, as an aviation enthusiast, I absolutely love to see the engine, especially during different stages of the flight. I find the spiralling of the cone swirls to be mesmerising and so that’s why I actually really like rearward facing seats.

The rear facing seat is more like a window seat whereas the front facing ones are more of an aisle seat due to the placement of the console. In other words, you'd have to really lean over if one wanted to plaster their face against the window to absorb the views.

Almost everyone here knows that. But what's the point if your view is of the engine and wing?

Interesting. My mom just flew QSuites from DOH to CCU on the 7th. I didn't realize it was being used on that route yet.

It does so appear that QR is putting Qsuite configured aircraft on routes rather "randomly", apart from certain routes like LHR and JFK.

Of course not randomly on QR's side, but rather, as in how the planes are used on routes where a plane that capacity would be used efficiently, as opposed to being flown on one set route.
