Question Melia shares

Hey adobbing, Melia's ticker symbol is MEL, if I am not mistaken. You can check more on their performance here: https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/MEL:SM
Currently 1 share cost 12.12 euros, which means 1,000 shares will cost 12,200 euros.
As per this page, in order to get Gold status in MeliaRewards as a shareholder, one need to hold a minimum of 1,000 shares for one year.
I also noticed interesting discrepancy between lists of elite benefits listed on MeliaRewards page and shareholders' page: on the page above it says that Gold members will receive welcome amenity, 11am check-in as well as 50% discount on upgrade. I wonder if this are new additions or old page
Current list of elite benefits can be seen here.

You need to be careful with the Melia Platinum provided priority pass. As per https://www.melia.com/en/meliareward...rity-pass.html you only get 2 free visits a year, any other ones they either deduct 8k melia points from your account, or charge you.

Hey Gagravarr, thanks for the warning, but I think it's pretty clear: they give you just 2 free passes and then charge you either points or money. I think having free Priority Pass is already a good thing. So I personally don't mind spending money when using a lounge via PP. I think use of Melia points like that is not a good idea.

Thanks for info, I would rarely stay at a Melia group hotel but had wondered whether purchasing shares might have made it worthwhile considering their program.

I don't think 1200 is an amount I would want to invest for the benefit I would get.

I've been a regular customer of melia hotels for 3 years now (gold status) and since last august, none of my stays allowed to obtain points, supposedly because the booking was made through expedia, which was not the case. It was done through a travel agency at work, but they state that to be earn points, the booking has to be done directly with Melia.
Has anybody had the same experience lately? if so I'll probably change for another chain of hotels in Spain (NH?)

Cool Melia stays booked via corporate travel agency

Hi ganfoud,
First of all, sorry to hear it. My experience is a bit different. I had a few stayes at Melia booked via my company's corporate travel service. When checking in, I was always showing my Melia Rewards card, asking them to add it to my account. So most of the time I was getting points. Once points didn't post and had to write a message to MeliaRewards' Customer Service team asking them to add points manually. They did it very quickly. So as you can see in my experience it is possible to get MeliaRewards points even when booking via corporate travel agency. Although I have to say that it was back in 2015 so maybe the rules changed since...
Another thing is on-line check-in: one can't use it unless the stay was booked via official Melia channel - website (also potentially via phone, but not too sure about this).
So all in all, I suggest you getting in touch with customer service (via the web form on the website) and they should sort out the points issue. Phone agents can be a bit brisk and not always 100% consistent.

the thing is that I basically did that already!
whenever I get to the hotel, I check if they have my number registered, and whenever the points were not credited, I did the request through the website and it worked well... until august 2016! since then, the points are not credited and when I request them via the website form, the answer is always that I did the booking via Expedia and thus cannot earn any point...
that's why I was asking here
I sent a request to the customer service to get an explanation about this policy, let's see what happens...

MeliaRewards points...

Hey ganfoud, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the rules recently. This change would be very much in line with other major hotel chains, tightening their rules and not extending elite benefits to third-party bookings... It's a shame that it also covers corporate travel agencies because in that case customers doesn't have a choice... Maybe it will make sense talking to your corporate travel agency and asking them to talk to their Melia contact? I don't thing that the corporate agent earns anything from this transaction, so you should be awarded those points.
Please report hen you anything back from CS.

My employer uses a corporate travel agency who have their own website for booking, part of it allows you to enter your frequent traveller account details.
If you don't do this the bookings don't pick up your details and you have to get them added at the hotel.
If you set these up the reservations are picked up by the relevant hotel loyalty schemes in advance.
Might be worth checking with the corporate travel agency whether they can do this?

Question Melia Official Travel agent

Does anyone know any official Melia travel partners? I found Me Ibiza on Vrtuoso (https://www.virtuoso.com/hotels/15249861/me-ibiza) with some nice add-ons like free breakfast, spa credit, room upgrade and early check-in/late check-outs. But no more Melia properties. I wonder if such agencies can offer better deal than the official Melia website.

Same here, my employer also uses the corporate travel agency which allows to enter the loyalty program details for hotels, airlines, car rental companies, etc. I was officially told that employees are allowed to earn loyalty points because company doesn't do that. So logically thinking, it should work with Melia too.

That might not be a good idea for the OP as it would probably mean that his company would get the points rather than him!

that's not the issue: my frequent traveller is registered with my travel agency, they transmit it to the hotel with every booking, I always check at check in if they have my frequent traveller number, it used to work well but now, even though they have all the data they need and even though I want to reclaim points through their form for missing points, Melia won't give me points because my "booking is done through a travel agency"...
I sent a question to customer service asking for clarifications, let's see what happens...

ok, I got the confirmation, they won't give me any point for the bookings made through my travel agency...
I'll switch to a different chain of hotels then...
