I have searched but couldn’t find the answer so apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

Don't think it would matter to you financially but as a courtesy cancelling it will be better. It could be a full flight and someone might be looking for a seat.

Hi there,

I am strongly thinking about going for DONE4 but I am still new to OWE RTW and would appreciate your inputs. I am flexible with originating position, but based on what I read here and EF, CAI still remain cheapest place to start? I would like to explore Europe, South America, and Asia, along with few months break between trips so I'll go for DONE4 but open to add Africa if it doesn't cost too much.

CAI-xAMM-xDOH-MOW-PRG-xDOH-JFK-SCL-BOG-GRU-xJFK-TYO-HKG-SIN-DOH

Hope I did follow the rules properly with this route, but feel free to make suggestions how I can improve this routing, TIA.

You're a year or more too late: CAICAI fares were removed some time ago because of the instability of EGP.

Your best position I think now remains TYO.

washeelers747 Mar 25, 2018 11:27 am

Knew it, because I was little puzzled when I see QR and Meridiana sell CAICAI RTW fare on EF but QR don't fly to CAI anymore. What's estimated fare for ex-TYO DONE4 or 5?

christep Mar 25, 2018 11:29 am

Confused... If you have EF access why do you need to ask here?

All I see is $6k+ fare but wasn't sure if it's accurate.

Should I look at cities below equator in Africa region as a starting point or price difference isn't much?

So IG (Meridiana) is not a oneworld carrier. [There is speculation they may join, but let me leave that aside.] IG participates in the oneworld global explorer fares, but not the xONEx product. These are two different products:

The oneworld explorer fare is the xONEx product. It is restricted by number of continents, and is limited to oneworld carriers.

The oneworld global explorer fare is the xGLOBx product. It is restricted by mileage. It allows travel on certain non-oneworld carriers who are loosely affiliated with oneworld members, such as IG.

IG seem to have been left out of the loop when oneworld pulled their fares. You might succeed in getting a ticket issued under an IG fare, but good luck. I bet no one has ever bought an IG CAICAI fare ever. And since it requires manual ticketing, it is bound to raise eyebrows. Still, stranger things have happened: I'd be interested to hear if you manage it.

As for QR, I think that is simply an oversight. Again, maybe it can be issued, but I wouldn't rely on it.

EF pulls fares from the GDS, so there's no reason to think it isn't accurate. However, be aware that EF shows base fares. Taxes and fuel surcharges will add to the cost, depending on which carriers and which airports are chosen. If you're looking for a DONE4 under $6k all-in, there's no such thing at the moment.

I'm in early stages of planning a DONEx for later in 2018 or in early 2019 and I'd appreciate if you helped me clear some points.

The wiki says:

On two class US domestic flights ..., if you hold a D class ticket you can book into the A (first) inventory, if it is available, at no extra charge.
Is this still so? I thought with the realignment of booking codes on AA we can no longer fly in A and get F class TPs in BAEC? So it no longer makes sense, statuswise, to try and rack up longish segments in the lower US (e.g., JFK-TUS) as opposed to, say, routes to the Caribbean (LAX to MBJ or BZE)? Sorry if this comes across as too BAEC-centric.

Besides, does booking a flight as a codeshare affect the YQ? Say, if I want to fly QR metal from DOH to LHR and onto LAX on AA, both flights under their BA codes, do I get to pay the BA YQ? Or does the answer depend solely on the plating carrier? (I may and will change things around a lot but so far my first overwater segment would be on AA so I'm inclined to book this with them).

Thanks in advance

YQ depends also on marketing carrier. I tried to get same itionary priced with different marketing carriers with AA RTW desk previously, mostly the YQ differences were small, but when I selected BA code instead of operating carrier code (usually AA/AY) sometimes the YQ went up a lot. You can estimate the YQ with the Matrix, but it also slightly depends on ticketing carrier so the estimate is not always accurate.

The wiki is well out of date. The ability to fly in AA First on a Business RTW ticket was removed in February 2017.

Is it possible to force your trip to book in a codeshare?

Examples)
AA8495 JFK->NRT
AA8417 NRT->HKG
AA6229 LCY -> JFK

Yes. It's easier to do so when using a travel agent, rather than the online tool, or when booking via the airline whose codes you want to use. Note that in some cases, codeshares for domestic flights can only be booked when the flight is a connection to or from an international flight using the same airline's code.

Hello,

I have an upcoming business trip that will require me to make a round the world routing. Our travel agent here at work currently has recognized it will be a round the world routing but plans on issuing 3 separate tickets (Qatar, Cathay and Air Canada).

I would like to have it all booked with OW carriers to maximize my tier points and also to "sell" it to our travel agent as hopefully being a cheaper option than what they are currently quoting (which is about CHF 8400 in business).

The basics of the routing are:

GVA-HAN (currently booked as via DOH on QR which is fine)
HAN-SYD (currently booked as via HKG on CX, also fine)
SYD-YYC (currently booked via YVR on AC which is the problem)
YYC-YTO (currently on AC, also a problem)
YTO-GVA (currently on AC, also a problem)

I've seen some of the more desirable routings getting me from SYD-YYC on OW carriers are:
Via SFO on QF then WS - the BA Avios flight calculator indicates I get neither tier points nor Avios for the WestJet segment from SFO-YYC
Via SFO and SEA on QF then AS for the last two segments - I believe this would get me Avios only for the Alaskan Airlines segments
Via NRT and YVR on JL then WS - flight routing here is 3.5 hours longer but I would get 280 tier points for the two long haul Japan Airlines flights, then nothing on the WestJet flight

Any recommendations on how I should play this with our travel agent? To be honest I am not even sure if they are eligible to purchase the OW RTW ticket for us. In any event, all suggestions on how I can maximize the benefit of this for my OW tier point balance gratefully received.
