seems like lack of training
I would have had the inept banker call the chase line for clarification. The hundreds or thousands (probably close to a hundred thousand) of people that have gotten both personal and business bonuses would be proof that the specification of "business account" is different than "personal account" and 99.9% of people with any training at all in the promotion are aware that the 2 are seperate and both are eligable.
its like the morons who think that if you had a checking bonus 7 months ago in 2009 you are not eligable for the bonus again, even though specific wording of "calander year" means jan-dec 2010 is a whole new ballgame, you have to sit them down and talk to them like they are a 3rd grader and explain the definition of calender year....dont take an ignorant or stupid interpretation as fact. Make them get clarification so they dont use their misguided interpretation on the next customer. If all else fails, go to another branch where you can deal with an informed CSR. |
I have a quick question on the "Debit card purchase".
this offer says that "Also, to qualify for the first 10,000 bonus miles you must make 5 debit card purchases with any Chase debit card linked or used to access the new account or initiate a repeating direct deposit such as payroll, Social Security or other government benefits. The 5 debit card purchases or first direct deposit must be completed within 60 days of account opening to earn the bonus miles. Initial 10,000 bonus miles will be deposited in your OnePassŪ account 6-10 weeks after the 5 debit card purchases or initial direct deposit has posted to the new account." it asks us to make 5 debit card purchases. But when I received the card today, there is a stick on the card ,which says always use "Credit" card type if you want the miles. I just got confused here. So to qualify for the first 10K miles, do I need use this card as "debit card" with PIN or as "credit card" no Pin? Thanks. |
You need to make purchases using the debit card (which is what the offer text was referring to), but using it as credit (with a signature, which is what the sticker was referring to) in order to qualify for the 10K bonus, as well as the no-monthly-fee.

how to close the accounts?
I see in the t/c the account needs to remain open for 6months. Opened all on 11/23. I am ready to close these down (and stop running to RiteAid for Swedish fish for $2.19 20 times a month.)
Is there an easy, non confrontational way to close the account and get a final check issued that avoids any human contact? I want to avoid the discussion as to 'why'. Also, has anyone safely closed these accounts after the 6 month mark and in fact there is no effort by Chase to retreive the bonus points? |

Second, to close an account, call Chase, inform them that you want to close and would like a check mailed to you. If they ask "why", just say you do not need. Easy, ( I have done it many times) and you do not need to be confrontational.

OK, I gave you the courage, go call Chase. |
Opened both accounts on same day. A week later, 10K miles showed up the same day I got my debit cards and made the required transactions.
I assume this is the 10K from the initial $500 deposit in the biz account since there's obviously no way the 5 debit transactions for the personal account had even processed fully. Nothing else received yet. |
After turned down from a bank manager, I followed a fellow FTer's advice here to just move on to the...next branch:D All should be fine...we can all move on@:-)

I opened a new personal checking account today. The banker was totally unaware of the promo, even when I laid out all the details to him. In the end, I had him do a google search for it and the page showed up. He apologized and applied the promo code for it. I guess I could have printed the coupon myself, but I assumed they would be aware of the promo. I hope everything was done correctly and I'll get the miles in time.

I just wanted to read it because I actually been told by the banker who opened the consumer one that in fact I needed to leave it open for 6 months and the business one to leave it open for 12 months. Which is ok by me. but good fyi in general. |
RE: Flyaaah comment on 6months...
In my welcome package that was printed out while in the Chase branch it says (just on my personal accounts, not on the business) the checking account must remain open for 6 months or the 10,000 miles will be debited from your account.
So on the business accounts I do not see any language about 6 or 12 months. |
There's a line in the "Banker Instructions" on the coupon page that says:
Only customers who bring this original certificate when opening a personal checking account (excluding High School Checking, Chase College Checking, Chase Access Checking, and New Jersey Consumer Checking Account) are eligible for this offer. What does that mean? I live in NJ and I'll be opening a consumer checking account. |

Based upon my exhaustive research (2 minutes), open a Chase Chase Checking SM account (per the eBonus Certificate) and not a New Jersey Consumer Checking Account account, and you are eligible for the bonus. FYI, the New Jersey Consumer Checking Account is tailored for individuals who need a checking account on a limited basis, who do not carry large minimum balances, and who want to avoid bank fees (a nice, but mandated item from the State of New Jersey). |
