I opened and paid with my shiny new 50k United Chase card. The $500 posted as a miles transaction and so the 500 miles, plus my 50k bonus, plus my first purchase, all posted to United as soon as my account closed.

Only problem I'm having is that when I opened my account on line, it did not ask for my OnePass number. Accordingly, it appears that they have opened a new OnePass account for me. I asked them about it and they said I had to contact Continental, which I did by e-mail. They are "researching" it. Hopefully, they can just merge the two accounts.

FYI: This just showed up on our AA Citibank Visa as a Cash Advance...

AA Citibank Visa $50 cash advance fee plus $9 interest was refunded after filing a dispute and calling. However it should be noted that this card is our primary so we generate some $ for them.

Question to get 10K I need to:

Get 10,000 bonus miles when you open a Chase CheckingSM account and make 5 debit card purchases or set up direct deposit
The sub note on this bonus doesn't define what a debit card purchase is, where the 15k offer for first purchase defines it as non-pin based purchases.

Should I read the the 5 debit card purchase rule as any purchases? Or any non-pin purchases? Or any pin based purchases?

It seems like an awful big risk to me. Isn't it much much easier to simply do 5 debit card transactions to avoid having to worry about the direct deposit? You have to do one anyway to get the bonus, so it's just 4 more. I did my first 5 in a day and a half.

Once you've done your five, if I'm understanding the offer, you're home free. You may or may not need to tweak direct deposit or keep using the card to avoid a $6 fee each month. But that's a much less significant concern than losing the 25k miles. Not sure why anyone would risk it. Just use the card a couple of times when you first get it.

Thats a good question. I am assuming the 5 purchases are pin based as they didnt mention that they had to be non pin purchases. You are correct that on the personal and business to get the 15K bonus you must make a non pin debit card purchase within 60 days.

Here is some additional info from when I set mine up last week:

Have the banker print you out a Confirmation form as it will have a tracking number and instructions on what you need to do to get the miles.

If you just do the personal checking you have to do 5 debits a month or set up payroll direct deposit or you get $6 monthly fee.

On the business account I was actually just going to open the account for the 10k miles and blow off the card as it is $65. Banker told me that I had to get a card, it would be $25, but I wouldnt get the 15k miles, so i decided to just get the $65 card for the miles. $40 for 15K miles is pretty good exchange.

Also, he told me this: "your personal accounts will be converted to PREMIER CHECKING ACCOUNT since you have the CHASE BUSINESSCLASSIC CHECKING. As long as you do 5 debit card purchases on the business account the fee for the business account is waived. The CHASE BUSINESSCLASSIC CHECKING waives the PREMIER CHECKING ACCOUNT service fee. So Just use the Business debit card at least 5 times a month and you wont have to worry about a service fee on either account."

has anyone else been told this??

He also told me that if I funded $500 with my credit card it would show up as a cash advance, not purchase. I understand from others that is incorrect, but I didn't wanna argue.

Finally you have to keep accounts open for 6 months or they will take back the miles. I can't see how they can do this once deposited in your OnePass account but the creeps at Chase could probably find a way.

I was introduced to the premier checking account but I decided against it until I receive the 25K miles in full. I think it is probably okay for the premier checking account to quality, but since the fine print specifically points to the Chase CheckingSM, not the Chase Premier Checking®, I just want to avoid potential issues.

Chase did that to UA miles. No report as of yet that Chase does it to CO miles. I don't want to be the one reporting the first case. ;)

The banker indicated this is automatic. Anyone who has a business and personal account gets upgraded to the Chase Premier Checking. Im not worried about the miles as I have the receipts with tracking numbers. Im just curious about what the banker said about the fees. Wells Fargo has annoyed me in the past, but I won't complain anymore after dealing with Chase a couple times with this deal and on their credit cards.

Well I have both business and personal accounts. I didn't get automatic upgrade, and I specifically asked not to be upgraded.

The receipt and fine print say Chase CheckingSM, not Chase Premier Checking®. I think it should be fine though. Technically you opened a Chase CheckingSM, then did the upgrade. So you did have the Chase CheckingSM.

Not true.

This was what the Chase banker told me in an email. I just went online and looked at my account at Chase and I have just a regular Chase Checking account, not the Premier account. Obviously the banker has no clue what he is talking about. I also remember declining anything but the basic Chase checking account. So then my question is I assume I need to do 5 personal and 5 business debits a month to avoid fees since I have no direct deposit at work.

As others have reported, my correct OnePass number was automatically linked after a few days of opening the account online without my having to do anything. It shows on the "debit card rewards details page" online. Curious that some work/some don't.

Yes, 5 non-pin transactions per account.

Did you get check with your business account? I assume they must be included, as opposed the personal account where they cost extra.

I was told the same at a branch in Manhattan. I figured it was just an upsell and making 5 debit card transactions a month is quite easy, just make 5 $1 charitable donations - beats giving it to the charity of JP Morgan Chase :)

Looks like this deal is only available for one account per year/per household now. No more personal AND biz. (Could this be why everyone is having trouble getting this deal via a biz account online? Due to already having opened up a personal one previously? Has anyone tried a biz online without first opening a personal one?)
