Well, good for you. I guess I got someone who either misinterpreted the rules or you slipped through the cracks (although it seems that the crack is mile-wide based on how many people got through ). I'd appreciate if someone has something official from Chase that would dispute the exclusion based on a (very) old UA card.

It is kind of random. Just like getting the club passes when the T&C (at least mine) clearly said we wouldn't get them until our anniversary - and they just arrived. We both got approved instantly for the Explorer and had opened the old United cards about 6 months earlier. We had both also had a Continental card that we cancelled earlier in the year (along with a few others like Southwest) and I had 2 other Chase cards still open - so now I have 3. Hope it works out for you

I just read the last 5 pages or so of this thread and am completely confused.

My husband applied for and received the Continental Chase card last year. In February, he applied for and received, the Explorer card. He applied for it using the 60,000 promotion and was immediately approved. He received the card and started using it in March. He received his first statement and the miles based on purchases were posted to his United account. He didn't receive any bonus mileage.

Do you think he will still get the bonus miles? His Continental card is still active. Any advice?

Mine posted on the payment due date - not when I paid it.

Come on, so many of you now have the card - please help:
As Palaimo noted in post #823, both, the "normal" and "signature" VISA include the primary CDW; would someone be so kind and list what the coverage exactly includes (theexplorercard.com details section does not provide any info)?

Thanks!

Just a quick note on something that was probably noted earlier in this thread but deserves to be repeated: This card has a 3% fee on all foreign transactions - not only foreign currency transactions, but even charges in US$ from a foreign vendor.

This is my first Chase card, and I did not realize this when I appied. (But thank god I noticed before putting any foreign spend on the card).

3% is higher than all my other cards, including Amex. So be careful if you use this for any foreign charges, especially tickets or hotel rooms online where sometimes the charge will originate in the home country of the hotel, airlines, or booking engine.

Yes, don't use this card for any foreign transactions at all. It's absolutely terrible with the fees on top of it. Always use the Ink or Sapphire Chase cards.

I'm waiting until later this month to apply, but after the first purchase, I really can't see why I'd use this card. Everything about the Sapphire Preferred is better than this card (for me, at least).

At the same time, I'd hate to be on a Chase blacklist for spending the minimum (which is nothing), getting points, and closing the card without other spend. The only 2 cards I have with Chase are the BA (100K, but also paid an annual fee since it wasn't waived first year) and the SP (planning on keeping it 2nd year). If there's one bank I don't want to cross, it's these guys.

The section covering the auto rental collision damage waiver is very long. What kind of details are you looking for? It is primary coverage, excludes expensive, exotic automobiles (e.g. Aston Martin, Ferrari), and excludes Israel, Jamaica, Ireland, and Northern Ireland. Does not cover rental (or intended rental) periods exceeding 15 consecutive days within your country of residence or 31 consecutive days abroad.

My wife and I both got Continental cards last year. This year, we both applied for the United cards at the same time.

I closed my Continental card 2 weeks before applying, I got the 50K on the new United card.
My wife didn't cancel her Continental card. It rolled over into a United Card. She didn't get the 50K on her new (second) United card.

Hopefully we can figure out a way to get the 50K for her. Any suggestions?

3% forex fee is pretty standard.

Your AMEX - depends on what type of AMEX card you have - if it is an AMEX AMEX, you lose far more in the exchange rate used by AMEX.

Chase has other cards that dont charge 3% forex fee - all Chase issued hotel affiliate cards dont. BA card does not, so as Chase's own Sapphire Preferred, to name a few.

You, as the applicant, should pay attention to what the fee table is, on the card you apply.

I got the Continental card last year and have not closed the account yet. I applied for the new United card and got the 50K. Perhaps it's the timing...I applied for the new United card shortly BEFORE the old Continental card became a United card. Did you perhaps apply AFTER the conversion?

It's a bit different in my case. The 10,000 bonus miles after spending $25,000 in a calendar year is the reason why I will continue using this card as my primary card. Chase Sapphire Preferred can't beat it because in my case only about $5,000-$6,000 of the $25,000 are for dining/travel expenses. On top of that, I will also receive two United Club passes every year. Of course, I am interested in collecting mainly United miles.

Have you called and asked Chase about it?
