I scanned through this thread and found quite a number of posts that said something like this: "I applied for the card but got an onscreen message that my application is being reviewed rather than an instant approval. Uh oh."

There's no need to fear. Chase is different than Citi.

I've had several Chase cards in the past. I always saw that message when I submitted a new application. The card was typically approved within a week or two. So don't sweat it - this message does NOT mean that you are going to be denied.

Like many banks, Chase has gotten tighter on how much credit they will advance you. When I've applied for Chase cards, I often got a phone call a week or so later. Typically, they will approve the card, but frequently they have asked me to split the credit line on one of my existing Chase cards in order to make room for the new card. They seem to not like granting me more total credit than I already have. (This is important to remember. If you close down a Chase card, I think it's a good idea to consolidate the credit limit from the card you are closing into one of the accounts you wish to retain. That way you keep your entire credit limit intact.)

BA's fuel surcharges are progressive - the rates are higher for premium economy, and higher still for business and first class. Here's a list of sample redemptions indicating route, partner carrier, miles required and add on taxes/fees/surcharges*.

Economy Class
MIA-SCL (LA) 40,000 BA Miles + $87.10
JFK-EZE (AA) 40,000 BA Miles + $98.60
SFO-HKG (CX) 50,000 BA Miles + $298.86
ORD-HEL (AY) 65,000 BA Miles + $312.00
JFK-NRT (JL) 50,000 BA Miles + $497.50
ORD-PVG (AA) 50,000 BA Miles + $522.90
JFK-LHR (BA) 50,000 BA Miles + $535.20
SEA-LHR (BA) 50,000 BA Miles + $535.20
IAD-DEL (BA) 90,000 BA Miles + $606.10

Business Class
MIA-SCL (LA) 80,000 BA Miles + $87.10
JFK-EZE (AA) 80,000 BA Miles + $98.60
SFO-HKG (CX) 100,000 BA Miles + $299.10
ORD-HEL (AY) 130,000 BA Miles + $312.00

ORD-PVG (AA) 100,000 BA Miles + $522.90
JFK-LHR (BA) 100,000 BA Miles + $772.20

but how...

Hi everybody!
I'm totally new to all this and kind of stumbled in on this page and a couple of others and I wonder how do I make this work?

If I sign up for this card, do I get 100,000 miles just like that or do I actually have to transfer money and buy stuff on it? I tried to read on their page but when I looked at it it looked like I had to spend 2500$ in three months to get the offer. Am I wrong?

pls give a newbie some help with the fine print

Good job, appreciate and save to my database.

Could you correct the
Economy Class
ORD-PVG (AA) 50,000 BA Miles + $522.90?
I quoted on BA.com. It requires
50000 miles + $345.71 for round trip.
ORD-PVG 25000 miles + $158.50
PVG-ORD 25000 miles + $137.84
Roundtrip not equal to sum of two one ways.

Here is
-----------------------------------
ITA software fee breakdown

ORD-PVG
AA YQ surcharge (YQ) $156.00 (BA only)
US International Departure Tax (US) $16.30
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $2.50 (AA & BA)
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $4.50

PVG-ORD
AA YQ surcharge (YQ) $106.60 (BA only)
USDA APHIS Fee (XA) $5.00 (AA&BA)
US Immigration Fee (XY) $7.00 (AA&BA)
US Customs Fee (YC) $5.50 (AA&BA)
People's Republic of China Airport Fee (CN) $13.70 (AA & BA)
US International Arrival Tax (US) $16.30

This on the offer page from the first post of this thread makes it pretty clear:

You’ll earn 50,000 bonus BA Miles after your first purchase on the card and an additional 50,000 bonus BA Miles after spending $2,500 on your card within the first three months of activation.

Request for help

Help to all those who use these miles.

I can never find anything on BA.com's website to use these miles. I am not talking just slim pickings. I mean nothing.

I would like to fly out of CMH, CAK, CLE, or PIT to Las Vegas.

Even though I see many availbale flights for the super saver fares over on AA.com. When searching on BA.com, nothing shows up. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks fellow FTers

Thanks everyone for posting all this helpful info. I'm just like many of you, got the message after applying. I have recently got the Chase 50,000 & Continental 50,000 cards. I will definitely call the phone # and check my status and ask to have credit lines adjusted to open the new card. They give me way to much credit. It's crazy how much. I don't need it, nor plan to use it. Thanks for the tip on consolidating it to get the card approved.
Thanks also for the info on redemption. I was excited about the free tickets to Europe but looks like that isn't the case. I'm still excited about the free tickets to us in the U.S. for the fam.

What's up with all the huge CLs? I have Freedom with 4.3k and CO with 4k, granted I'm still in grad school. I should have no problem with this BA card, right? Scores in mid-700s, have 6 inquiries on TU, which I believe is what they pull from here.

I'm in the same boat as you and I think it's just going to get worse. This deal is the airline equivalent of a banana republic with a weak currency going to the presses and wildly printing money.

You "should" be fine as long as:

1. It has been six months since your last new Chase credit card app
2. Your inquiries on TU (assuming they pull TU) are spread out over the last two years and are not bunched up into the last two to three months

ba.com does not handle the search for award availability on connecting itineraries particuarly well. Your options are

1. Search individual legs on ba.com
2. Use KVS or similar tool and then call
3. Use aa.com and then call

if you explain the itin isn't bookable on line BA should waive the offline fee.

Same thing, under review. Applied and received CO, SW, and Venture in the last 3 months, all with $10-20K credit limits. AA about 5 months ago. No BA card ever. What is the best timing for calling in, once I'm denied (if that is the case), or now? Seems like the best timing would be after they have reviewed your application.
