Does this work like the United promo where you have to be within 2 miles, or do you have to physically be at the property (couple of hundred feet)?

spriteguy Mar 11, 2012 11:16 am

Yeah I am using foursquares right now... This is really weird... maybe I'll get a huge credit soon.... :S

I suggest not to contact topguest

Just wondering if it's worthwhile to contact TopGuest or if I should wait it out and see what happens?

Here is my experience. I contacted TG to assist me in changing my facebook acct set up, as I changed it. Once I did everything, from that moment going forward, no points received. I linked the account to my Foursquare application, and the same, no more points. Once you contact them, they can see your activity. I've never received any emails notifying me that I've been violating their TOS, just flat out no more points.
Once it stops posting points for you, it is pretty much dead.

Why would you want to ever contact these guys... Just get your points and be happy! :D

It's been a couple of days since last posting to my account, so I'll keep monitoring and report back. However, I have continued to get email confirmations after the merger. What I haven't been getting in the last couple of days are the hotel confirmations. I have tried both with FB and Foursq and no luck yet.

Gamecock Mar 12, 2012 4:07 pm

OK, I'm in.

I drive past a Hampton Inn at least 2 times a week, and a Holiday Inn 3-5 times a week. We'll see how this works.

I seem to have better luck with FB than FS...strange...

You will not. During the transition, they did shut posting off for a few days. My last posting was on 3/4, but I have a UA check-in from a few days ago that hasn't posted yet.

How could they figure out that?

It's a GPS dependent application.

I was experiencing the same thing, and I had even re-registered with my new (old) MileagePlus (OnePass) number. Just got five new postings this morning!

msc75 Mar 16, 2012 11:16 am

Looks like I stopped getting PC points too. Tried at a HI and a CP a week apart, no luck. I hadn't done any check-ins since December and had no issues before. Guess I'll try Foursquare next and see if that works better.

I use FS to check in at the InterContinental accross the street from my job every day. Did it this morning and just received the email confirmation just fine. I will try a HI tomorrow if I'm near one to see if it works.

I didn't see my Continental points post for a week or so and then they all came in at once in one day last week. Sometimes they just get hung up, not as prompt at Hilton with their postings.

So far so good.

Got a 50 point sign on bonus with Holiday Inn, 2 check-ins since Wednesday, 150 points have posted.

Checked in at Best Western earlier today and the 50 points have posted as well.

All check-ins are via FourSquare.

This is going to be awesome for US Grand Slam Promo 2012. (hoping they have it...)

amolkold Mar 18, 2012 7:36 pm

has anyone gotten Best Western points posted lately? Checked into several authorized locations but no points.

mfkne Mar 20, 2012 3:13 pm

Got an update regarding Topguest to Priorityclub points not posting since December. Seems like they were stuck somewhere. I checked into a Crowne Plaza past weekend on Facebook, got the e-mail, and much to my surprise found about 2000 points posted in my Priorityclub account from Topguest in about 40 single transactions of 50 points each. These must be the ones missing since December.

kevinjrwagner Mar 22, 2012 10:34 am

If I check in at the airport both on Facebook and on Foursquare, will I get 100 United points instead of just 50? And can I only get credit for one check in per day at the airport?

I ve been hitting this quite a bit for the 50 hotel points...so I got a nasty email telling me your account has suspicious activity and if you don't stop we will cancel the account.

Are they serious? Will I have to stay "home" for a while and get back in it later? Any comments?

Did you do multiple check-ins per day at different chains?

Well after about a month and a half of no points showing up for Hilton, my points for checkins during that time period posted this week all at once. ^ Hopefully I didn't lose out on any points, but at least my checkins weren't all for naught.

I used to check in at 4 different chains/day and received the email several months ago. Now I only check in at 1 airport and 2 hotel chains and give couple of hours between each check in.

gpapadop Mar 23, 2012 9:37 am

Thanks for the comments. Has anyone had their account killed?

Edited for "clarity"

Mine have been posting to my BW account same/next day. Although I haven't checked in since 11 March. Located in UK and using Facebook.

I checked in 3 times in the last week, points hit instantly.

balima Mar 24, 2012 8:44 pm

My BW miles hit almost instantly as well. Hilton has a little lag. But I have huge problems with Wyndham. I have checked in a number of times and have only had 1 check in post to my Wyndham account. Hubby is having the same problem as well. I'm waiting for something to show up before I try checking it with Wyndham again.

Remember, theoretically it's only the Wingate locations that count.

spriteguy Mar 25, 2012 12:23 pm

Just want to say for PC, same thing happened to me. About 3000 pts just posted. Also I wasn't getting United points for my checkin, so I emailed them and they fixed it for me ([email protected]).

HTH!

I have been careful, I've been checking in at Wingates. My topguest points show 250 points but Wyndham account only shows 50 points. I'm not sure where the other 200 points are. I'm waiting through the end of this month to see if they show up. Lat time they posted on the 26th. Maybe they just post once a month. At least that is what I am hoping.

Ben21 Mar 25, 2012 5:41 pm

I just logged into my HHonors account and saw that my past 15 or so checkins all posted en masse on the 19th. Looks like they were just backed up...

mgo72 Mar 25, 2012 6:05 pm

I think that checkins done by foursquare that are not counted because too far do not give you points now.

gnarly Mar 26, 2012 4:21 am

I have the opposite problem. Instead of being too far away from the property, I am too close.
This happens with foursquare, when they've got the property location in the wrong place. If you attend the property and check-in, you won't get points if foursquare believe the location is actually somewhere else.

1 out of 2 of my local Best Westerns are where they say they are, and 0 out of 1 Holiday Inns.....In fact if the Holiday Inn was where they say it is, it'd be in another country.

I've done the updates to report the bad locations, but nothing has changed so far.

There is a lot of confusion here. My experience has been check in, either m.foursquare.com or on the mobile app, get points.

The points you mention are the ones that foursquare gives you. Yes if you are too far foursquare does not award you points for the checkin. These points are not related to the topguest promo points awarded for checkins. I've been standing in the actual property and had foursquare say I'm too far away--their app is just not precise enough sometimes due to GPS issues. But topguest looks at your checkins, not your foursquare points. So it seems to have an automated check that searches your registered foursqure account checkins for hotel keywords and then give you points based on this. I also sync these checkins to my facebook, but have not tested if it is actually these foursquare checkins posting to facebook that are generating the "hit" with topguest.

There are Problems:

Topguest is very sporatic in actually seeing your checkins. Sometimes I check in and immediately get an email that I was awarded points. Somtimes I check in, then later in the day I'm at a different place and I check in there, and all of a sudden it is like topguest gets "unstuck" and points from both checkins hit my email. Another issue is that their "day" ends around 3-4pm my time so a checkin around that time may count for the next day. Then when you are at the same property the next morning and I check in, you won't see an email ever because I technically already checked in that "day." This could lead to confusion and thinking that they are not correctly offering points for checkins.

Then there's the issue of waiting for them to push your points from topguest to your actual loyalty accounts. This is usually delayed days/weeks as well.

Basically: There is no way to audit this program, there is no predictable pattern of the company's behavior, there is no way to know what points have already been awarded, and there is no way to keep a good total of what points you should have. BUT it sure has been a nice way to get a boatload of points for me, so I'm just shutting up and enjoying the ride.

Many times I've thought "oh great, its over... no more points." And then the next day I get 3 emails in a row giving me points for checkins from the past two days.
