I just joined a few weeks ago. TopGuest says I have 150 Priority Club points and 150 Hilton HHonors points. So far, though, I have received 100 Priority Club points but 250 HHonors points.

Topguest has been notoriously buggy.

I have been getting credit from TopGuest from Twitter posts with locations included without a problem.
I am also following TopGuest on Twitter, which allows them to read my twitter feed even though it is set to private so that may help with the " proper credit" issue some of you are having.

Don't know if I'm allowed to cite email: therefore, rewritten answer in my own words:
Topguests aims to reward that I share my location via social network check-ins when I "actually visit the locations".

That means, that on my commute, I'm generally not allowed to check-in locations to reward points.
So in my eyes, when I commute and physical "visit the location" for 2 min I don't offend the TOS. But it seems like they still don't allow it. The two parts of the answer from Topguest conflicts each other.

Another answer was that it makes no difference which application or service I use to sign-in. Hope to see soon how they manage the GPS information.

I think when they refer to "on your commute" they are talking about people checking in as they drive by. If you go into the lobby, you are factually "actually visiting the location" so they have no way of saying that violates the TOS. They specifically state that having a paid room at the location is not required, so they can't say that by just walking into the lobby you are violating TOS. I really think it's more about how many points you rack up in a given amount of time - there is absolutely no way for them to know if you are "actually visiting the location". If you do 20 check-ins a week ( as in every week day, across 4 chains), they're eventually going to suspend you, and ask you to "change your behavior" - which to me, reading between the lines, is telling you to stop getting so many points.

When I asked the question, I explicitly told them that I will be physical in the lobby when I check in. Seems like they have secret entries in their TOS. And as far as read in this thread, the amount of check-ins to get blocked seem to vary a lot, too.

I was suspended yesterday.

Sorry to hear. Do you have a pattern which you can explain which might have led to this suspension or was it at random?

I'm having this issue as well. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I just wait?

I asked topguest and got the following answer: "The reason you haven't received the reward is because the venue you chose when checking in with Twitter was the name of the city and not the actual name of the hotel unfortunately".

They referred me to "How to Choose Your Location" on http://support.twitter.com/articles/122236

Why they want that is understandable, they want to have the property as location name. But it's kinda wrong to accept the first sign-in without proper venue name but not the others. Getting the venue name with my twitter client is kinda annoying and I also can't write the same message on twitter twice. So I switched to foursquare.

Yes, I was checking in at a Doubletree, Crowne Plaza, Best Western and a comfort suites every day. But all of these are within 1 mile of my house, so its really easy. Over the last week, I also began to check-in at a Virgin America counter (about 4 miles away) every day. I think its the latter that triggered this.

It now says on the top guest page

"Get 50 Priority Club points whenever you check in or take a photo at an Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza or Holiday Inn hotel."

That has changed

TopGuest suspended you, or?

Did you lose any points/miles?

Did anything happen to your points/miles accounts at all?

cutnana Jul 21, 2011 10:27 am

Just noticed that I haven't received points for about a week. Is it widespread or just me?

TopGuest suspended me but I have not lost any miles earned from check-ins while my account was active. In fact, some Priority Club points posted after the suspension (but likely from check-ins while the account was active).

How did you find out? Did you receive an email? What did it say? Thanks

I haven't received any in about the same length of time. I emailed them about it and got this response:

"We've received your request and are investigating it now. Expect to hear from us again soon.

Thanks for contacting Topguest help."

That was 2 days ago... I guess their definition of "soon" and mine don't match. I replied to that message today (it says to "Please type your reply at the top of the email...") and told them I was working under the assumption that they would get it straightened out and was continuing to do check-ins. I also asked if there was an update. No response yet. I'm getting bummed, but there's not much more I can do about it.

At least you got a response. I haven't received points in over a week, despite daily check ins. I emailed them 5 days ago, and still haven't gotten any response.

SkyTeam777 Jul 21, 2011 1:09 pm

I havent gotten any Hilton points in the past week and havent gotten any PC points in the past two months despite checking in every day. Beginning to wonder if something is wrong in the way these are being reported since many of us are having the same issues.

scocjo Jul 21, 2011 1:20 pm

My Hilton points are posting fine for the past week and beyond. I had an issue a few months ago where they stopped posting. I emailed them and they responded within an hour with the problem fixed and points in my Hilton Account.

I love the program and the easy bonus points. I don't think there is a person I know that I havent encouraged to sign up.

On the topguest site, it shows my last check ins on July 12, despite several since. I haven't written yet. Will give it till mid-week next week.

skydog71 Jul 22, 2011 2:23 am

I'm experiencing the same thing. Topguest was working fine until July 12. Since then, none of my check-ins have registered.

Hmmm. I wonder if they've run out of money.

cutnana Jul 22, 2011 6:00 am

Looks like July 14th was the last day most of us got points.

Nelumbo Jul 22, 2011 6:47 am

My latest points on topguest was dated July 17.

flapping arms Jul 22, 2011 6:57 am

My latest points with TopGUest was yesterday. Then there was a lag where three check-ins were all recorded as 19 July (for 18, 19, and 20 July).

So who knows?

A delay of a week or so is nothing unusual in the context of the history of TopGuest postings, is it? In other words, aren't week-long delays something that have been observed many times before, only to catch up once the delay is over? I wouldn't be concerned unless the current delay far exceeds anything from the past.

jgottlieb Jul 22, 2011 7:37 am

I'm still on an old WimMo 6.5.5 phone (waiting for new phones to be released), using Opera 9.7. I am testing using m.foursquare.com linked to Twitter. Not checking in at any Topguest locations yet -- want to see how it's working.

So I'm at home, and I checked in at home. That seemed to work fine last night. This morning I checked into my company's main office. I'm still at home at it's across town. And that worked too.

So, if I'm all the way across town... how does Topguest know where I am really?

Mind you, I'm not looking to cheat the system, but use it correctly.

Thanks.

cdmoye Jul 22, 2011 9:01 am

Interesting, my last points were also the 12th... I wonder if something happened to them on the 12th. They also are no longer responding to my email inquiries (only one to say they were looking at the problem and would get back to me soon ... about a week ago).

I have not had checkins post to topguest since around that time as well. Have not attempted to write them though. Hopefully this gravy train hasn't ended! There was a hiccup of several days a month or so ago as well.

tripice351 Jul 26, 2011 11:08 pm

My checkins for Hilton and Choice aren't even registering in Topguest.. problem started around the 12th as others mention. Other programs are still working fine. For those who say your points aren't posting, are your checkins registering on TG?

The past 7 days of Holiday Inn, Best Western, and Choice just posted for me a couple hours ago.

Hilton isn't working for me either, but I don't know if it is because my local Hiltons don't participate or if there is a problem with Top Guest. They have NEVER posted in the past (I only started doing this for a few weeks).

Only Doubletrees count for Hilton.

Hmm not sure then - mine have always posted without issue (though sometimes a few days later)

thegasguru Jul 27, 2011 11:27 am

I'm starting to think that the TopGuest startup costs were financed thru the Mint.

Epaminondas Jul 27, 2011 11:35 am

My Intercontinental check-ins are posting, but I've been having the same issues with Doubletree check-ins. Those haven't posted since July 21.

mooper Jul 27, 2011 1:32 pm

For anyone not yet aware: posting is variable and delayed. If you don't see something post for a few weeks, then perhaps something is wrong. However, I suggest not panicking if there is a 1-2 week delay in posting, as we've seen it happen several times before and everything eventually catches up just fine.

cdmoye Jul 27, 2011 2:15 pm

FWIW, it's been 15 days since my last check-ins posted. I did get an email response to my help request that I submitted about 10 days ago just today. It said, "Apologies for the delays investigating your help request. We will get back to you with more information as soon as we can."

So, at least they're looking into it.
