5 checkins per day for me, yet nothing posted since July 15. No answer to email inquiry, either.
|
Maybe we shouldn't list the outrageous number of check ins per day (which doesn't necessarily violate the rules, but lets face reality here)?

My checkins for Hilton and Choice aren't even registering in Topguest.. problem started around the 12th as others mention. Other programs are still working fine. For those who say your points aren't posting, are your checkins registering on TG?

None of my foursquare checkins at Doubletree, holiday inn, choice, best western, or wingate have posted to topguest since the 12th/13th.

Above I said nothing had posted since the 15th. I meant the 12th. So my data point is the same as yours: I check in at all 5 of the participating programs, and have gotten rock since the 12th.

FWIW, it's been 15 days since my last check-ins posted.
Checking in five times per day could be expected to get you on their radar, so don't be shocked if indeed you pushed too far. Especially if you've stepped up your frequency, changed your properties, or altered the method by which you check in, you should be alert to the possibility that you fall into this group. If, however, you'd been checking in within the rules and aren't being disregarded because the various safeguards, then just hang tight and history says postings will catch up soon. If you are using the same method and frequency that has been working well for months, the odds are that you're in this category. |
I just had a batch of Priority Club Points post this morning. Hilton points seem to be posting as normal.
One thing I have noticed is the frequency by which Topguest scans foursquare has gone down. It used to post within an hour or two. Now, it might take several days for me to get the email telling me the points are in Topguest's system. Maybe as their user base grows they had to decrease the frequency of scans (if that is how it is done?). Or, perhaps as their userbase grows, it just takes longer for the queue to be processed? In any case, points are seemingly being accrued, albeit eratically. |
FYI, I just got this email from TopGuest:
========== Hi David, I'm sorry for the delay. We've been having issues retrieving data from foursquare for some accounts (including your's [sic]). We expect to resolve this issue early next week and will of course back-credit you for all of the points you should have been awarded in the interim. Thanks for your patience! ======== So there is/was definitely an issue, and they seem to be working on it. That's good :) |

Had a slug of points post to PC as well today that I think catches me up to when the foursquare checkins stopped showing up in topguest. As cdmoye noted there is an issue on topguest's side with foursquare so going to just sit tight, wait, and continue checking in.

Someone on MP posted a reply from TG saying they have a problem with $SQ postings and that it will be solved in the next few days.

I should have at least 300 points posted, and there was some activity today on my account...
for 50 points. They need to find a track to track and reward points better. It's so random. |
My account hasn't had any credit but I'm using foursquare so I guess the problem hasn't been fixed. My girlfriend (also uses Foursquare) had a couple of Best Western points post on TopGuest but that is it.
|
Started to see checkins posting from foursquare to topguest again last night starting with the 31st, but the back ones from around the 15th through the 30th still haven't shown up.

Looks like it will now post clockwise. |
Thanks for having this info here, folks! There's a holiday inn about a mile away from both my work and apartment so hopefully that's close enough to post. Since I don't have a smartphone yet it was a little tricky... I was having a heck of a time getting it to work with facebook, the page kept timing out on fb's side. I finally figured out how to make it work with foursquare's mobile page (even if I'm not on a mobile! excellent.). Anyway. Just wanted to say thank you for helping a newbie earn some points. =)

TopGuest - What for ?
I am new to Top Guest and I am quite puzzled. When I read the Best Western Terms & Conditions it says
A digital check-in does not require a paid stay or purchase at a Best Western property. Best Western and Best Western Rewards reserve the right to refuse to award Best Western Rewards Bonus Points or to revoke Best Western Rewards Bonus Points for a fraudulent or otherwise improperly received Enrollment Bonus. What does this mean? Can I check-in every day to a Best Western hotel without actually staying there and get for each virtual check-in 50 points? Or will they refuse the points "because improperly received points"? |

This is what baffles me about the FaceTwitSpace movement. Why do people want others to know where they are and what they are doing at all times? Why do these people think that others actually care about where they are or what they are doing? When did this big shift in the internet users' feelings about privacy occur? Personally, I like to remain as anonymous as possible on the internet, and I think that most people felt similarly until the past few years. Even offline, I have "friends" that I would never let other "friends" know existed. Viz.- Relationship George and Independent George from Seinfeld.
Oh, but thanks for the explanation, mooper. |
It's all so that they can get cheap advertising. By checking in all your friends see the name and brand o the hotel. Thus cheap advertising

The spirit of Topguest
Hi there. I'm Geoff Lewis, the CEO of Topguest. We are grateful for the support of the FlyerTalk community. However, there has also been some misuse of our service among this community. I look forward to participating in this thread going forward to ensure there is no more confusion going forward about acceptable use of our service.
The spirit of Topguest is to reward you for actually visiting Topguest partner locations, and sharing your presence at Topguest partner locations with your friends. In the Topguest enrollment process, we clearly state that you must actually be at the Topguest location (not driving by, not checking in from a few miles or few hundred meters away - but physically *at* the location) to use Topguest in a manner that is consistent with our fair use policy. The Topguest website also explains that Topguest exists to reward you for "Sharing your location with friends." Hence, one can reasonably assume that creating a private Foursquare or Facebook account expressly for the purpose of checking in to get points would not be in keeping with our fair use policy. We reserve the right to suspend user accounts at our discretion any reason, including for using Topguest in a manner that is not in the spirit of the service or not in accordance with our fair use policy. You can consult http://www.topguest.com/support for details here , as well as the terms of use posted on our website for more detail. I am also available any time to personally answer your questions about acceptable use, at [email protected]. To be even more clear, some examples of Topguest use that are not consistent with the spirit of our service include: - "Drive by" check-ins - "Walk by" check-ins - Creating a private foursquare account with no friends, and privately checking into multiple Topguest partner properties each day We have many thousands of weekly active users who utilize Topguest in accordance with our fair use policy, and enjoy the benefits of our service in the way we intended. We hope that we can count all FlyerTalk members among these users in the future. Many thanks! Geoff |
Welcome to FT, Topguest Lurker!
I do hope you realize that while both were started by Randy Peterson, MilePoint and FlyerTalk are unrelated web sites. |
Hi there - yes , thanks for the catch. just edited my post. Great to be here!
|
I find my Priority Club visits post pretty well but never the Best Western's, so have given up on BW check-ins.
|
I hereby quit using TopGuest.

Geoff I am having my lunch break virtually every day at the same Best Western hotel restaurant because it's near my office. That is according to the "fair use", isn't it? However, I opened an account for myself, a "private account" as you call it. Is this against the policy? Do I need to find "friends" now in order to be within the rules? |
Just got a warning email about suspicious activity. Guess I'm going to stop completely too :(

I searched for Topguest and didn't see any mention of it on FT. I'm not sure if this belongs here, or Travel Technology, or maybe S.P.A.M. but according to their FAQ you earn points in the program of your choice, not pseudo-points.
From TechCrunch: Right now it sounds like you can only earn rewards at The Standard hotels but their FAQ makes it sound like SPG points and Delta SkyMiles might be next up. |
i dont have a smart phone ,can this be done from a normal laptop(dont have ipad either)
thanks |
Choice Privileges
Is there a problem with Choice Privileges points transfer? My check-ins with HHonors and Best Western arrive after about two days on the hotel programs. Not so with Choice Privileges. Have been waiting for two weeks but no points in the Choice account. Any insights?

---------------- Hi there, just a quick email to let you know that you will receive an extra deposit of Choice Privileges points in the next few weeks from Topguest. There was a reporting error by Choice but we have resolved the problem for you and back-credited the points. Enjoy! Happy travels, Celeste. Topguest Support. ---------------- --wes |
Weired... but may explain the delay.
Did you enter your full Choice membership number (i.e. including the prefix) or only the numbers/letters into your TopGuest account? |

Hilton points posting schedule?
This is a question about HHonors points. I've been checking in for about 3 weeks now and have accumulated 1,000 HHonors points but have yet to see any points post on my Hilton account... Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

Hilton has traditionally posted really quickly for me, almost same day as the activity. I assume you've been checking into a Doubletree?

Checking in features on Facebook and Foursquare have to be done on your mobile. The laptop won’t cut it for this unfortunately.

"Your account has been suspended" LOL, no Warnings or anything. From this list and others I have read this seems to be the way the operate. Not very adult or professional. Makes one wonder how long they will be around. Seems hard to play by the rules when they refuse to tell you what the rules are. I read recently that someone just opened another account - both at the hotel chain and topguest using a address of a relative:td::(. He/she plans to then merge the two accounts after the new one is suspended again. Seems like a lot of effort for so little value. |
