Well it appears that a balance accrues with Topguest and then you transfer it over to a loyalty program.

So we can now transfer all points to HHonors if we wanted?

Also, I noticed that Foursquare says you can "check in" even if you don't have a smartphone.

"Not got your hands on a smart phone yet? You can check-in on your mobile browser at: http://m.foursquare.com or check-in by texting 50500 (like this: @ Ace Bar ! Playing skeeball)."

Has anyone tried this and gotten points?

Topguest disabled twitter a while back. Mobile browser foursquare checkins do work. I use foursquare.

Nope, the 'balance' that accrues is just do the fact that they batch the posting process. You do *not* earn Topguest points by checking at a DoubleTree, you earn HHonors points and the posting of those is just delayed. Ditto the other programs.

Hmm... Twitter is still on the TopGuest list of connected services. Maybe they re-enabled it recently?

Glad to know mobile check-ins work on foursquare. My friend works right next to a Holiday Inn, but doesn't have a smart phone. But he should be able to check-in from his work computer as long as he uses the mobile site, correct?

Indeed it is still listed. I could have sworn I saw a twitter post about them turning it off, but can't find it now. At the very least, certain of the partners claim to be for Facebook Places/Foursquare checkins only.

And yes, your friend should be able to checkin from his work computer using the mobile site.

I actually use Firefox to check in with "Foursquarefox". Works great. You can get it here http://foursquarefox.com/

OK, so I just gave this a shot, checked in at a Holiday Inn.... if I see the check-in show up in a couple of hours in the "rewards" section I'm good to go, right? :)

Correct! I checked in at Comfort Suites around 7:15 this morning vis Facebook. This showed up in the TopGuest Rewards summary before 9:00.

If your phone "thinks youre a little far" from the location and does not award the points/badges, does TopGuest still award the checkin? Or does the checkin only count if FourSquare gives you the points?

There are similar extensions for the Chrome browser, for those who are interested.

I don't think they'll count, but I haven't tested. To avoid the issue, you can sometimes turn off your GPS and search for the venue, then check in. Alternatively, you can use the Chrome or Firefox extensions noted above as a workaround.

Got my 50 points today, used the Firefox addon too! :)

Can we remove the posts mentioning checking in from really far away, or can the person who wrote edit? The TOS says you need to be present to check-in, so it would be best not to post about breaking/how to break the TOS.

I'd just prefer not to kill this so early. Just walked to my first place this morning before leaving to work to checkin, I'll let you know how it works!

silam Nov 18, 2010 1:44 pm

Also, has anyone checked in to a place they do not have an account? Do we know what happens?

I assume the points stay as "rewards" and will convert over once you link an account?

koroleon Nov 18, 2010 1:53 pm

Do you see Choice Privileges as an option? I only see PC, HHonors, WR, Elevate, Voila, ClubHotel and GrandGuest. Am I missing something?

From http://www.topguest.com/faq :

Do I need to be a member of the specific Topguest partner points programs, such as Hilton HHonors?

To get points, no. To claim them, yes. Whether or not you’re a member of a given points program, Topguest will automatically assign points to you whenever you check-in at one of that program’s participating Top Spots. However, to claim those points, you will need to enter your program number for the given program into Topguest. You can do this from either the mobile application or website. Simply click on “My Rewards”, navigate to the Partner name, and enter your membership number.
I checked into a place I didn't have linked earlier today. I will have to wait to see the outcome.

I don't see the Choice Privileges option either. I am, however, able to see it via the TopGuest iPhone app.

Have you enabled Facebook check-in option?

No I haven't. Perhaps that is the issue.

dmdflyer Nov 19, 2010 4:34 pm

I received my first deposit of PC points from Topguest.

11 Nov 2010 TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS 250 pts.
11 Nov 2010 TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS 300 pts.

Changed, but I didn't mean to indicate I was violating TOS when it comes to Top Guest (nor do I encourage anyone else to). I have a Candlewood I check into near my house.

So, is Choice Privileges only available if you are using Facebook to check-in? I'm using FourSquare and don't see it as an option.

That could be. You can always email them an ask. They respond very quickly usually.

Are you able to get points for checking in on the same day at both Hilton and PC hotels?

How do you do that? My husband who isn't a real FB user, just has an account for promos and stuff needs hotel points. I am a pretty heavy FB user so I want to be able to use the FB app with my account and Topguest with his account. Can this be done or do I have to log in and out of each account?

Does it work with non-USA hotels? We have a Holiday Inn and a few Choice hotels but no Doubletree, just a Hilton.

Tiki Nov 27, 2010 5:05 am

Update, I got it installed on iPhone to use with FourSquare. I enabled Facebook but still couldn't see Choice listed as a partner. The only partner in Brisbane area is the Holiday Inn so I might as well stick with FourSquare. It's a bit strange, I can't tell if it's saved my PC number because when I look at the partners, it prompts me to add the number again. I did one check in and it registered 50 PC points, now I hope they go to PC!

I must be doing something wrong...

Can someone help me out here, since obviously I'm doing something wrong. I've been checking into my local Holiday Inn for about a week now using foursquare, and my account should be linked to topguest, but I haven't seen any points post to my topguest rewards summary page. I realize that it takes a while for the points to hit my actual Priority Club account, though I haven't even seen them on the rewards summary page, so I assume I'm doing something wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

zakami Nov 27, 2010 3:00 pm

The last posting to my Priority Club account (and my wife's) was on Oct 12 but nothing since then. Anyone else in the same boat?

Lucky, there is a small possibility that HI isn't in the Top Guest database as a Priority Club property. Same thing happened to me when I checked in once at a hotel that was across the street from where I was staying. The check-ins did not post 2 days in a row and I cannot fathom anything I did differently/wrong technically. Have you tried another hotel?

You're not breaking the TOS by figuring out ways to get your check-in to work when your app is saying you are too far away. The location services are imperfect in that weak signals, inaccurate mapping, and other issues can cause them to misplace you. The other day I was sitting in a restaurant, and probably because of the lack of line of sight to the sky, Foursquare said I was too far from the restaurant when I tried to check in, despite the fact I was actually in it. Turning off GPS or using other workarounds can help you check in when you are experiencing such problems.

Thanks, I've actually tried about three Holiday Inn hotels in the area. I think I might not be linking my topguest and foursquare accounts properly. My topguest account has my Priority Club number linked, but could someone explain how exactly to link a topguest and foursquare account?

Thanks!

AndreaRH Nov 28, 2010 12:39 pm

Lucky,

Using your PC, go to Topguest.com, log in, and then click on "Settings." Make sure the FourSquare toggle switch is "on". If it isn't, switch it on and it will step you through the process of connecting your Topguest and Foursquare accounts.

Thanks for the info! Did that, but when I toggle the switch "on," nothing else comes up. It does ask me for my foursquare email and password if I click "settings," but that's it. Does that mean that I should be good to go?

Thanks again!

TopGuest Settings

Anyone else having trouble getting to the Settings page in TopGuest? I have been trying for the past week and just get a blank page. I emails them but have received no answer.

I had a similar problem, but logging in using Facebook instead of using my user/pass solved it. Give that a try. Might also want to try a different browser. Chrome works great for me.

Same for me here. They were posting every other week until Oct 12. Haven't gotten anything since then, although the points are still accumulating in my topguest account.

We have resolved the issue causing delay in crediting Priority Club points. Look forward to seeing your points from EOD Friday!
