Strange. I had an issue on Friday where none of my FourSquare check-ins were showing up on Facebook. I didn't get it fixed until Monday. I checked-in on Friday at a Virgin America terminal, but of course it never showed up on Facebook. I also checked-in at one on Tuesday, and that one did show up on Facebook.

I got 25 elevate points marked 11/26 (Friday). I haven't gotten any for Tuesday yet, but I would have been surprised to get them that soon.

What I don't understand is how I got the 11/26 points. Isn't it a requirement for elevate that the check-in appear on Facebook?

Has anyone actually seen their points post for Virgin America? I finally got Hilton today, and hoping for Priority Club tomorrow, but Virgin doesn't even show up on my Top Guest account?
TIA!

I have actually seen Virgin America points post (and I too saw my HHonors points post today).

Thanks for the speedy reply, rob-flies-ua
Are you checking in 'at the counter'? I have to drive thru the airport en route to work every day, within sight of the terminal, and appear to be unable to check in so far--

Yes - although to be fair, I've been standing at the counter a couple times and foursquare on my phone has said that I was over half a kilometer away from the terminal...

figgarro Dec 3, 2010 4:30 pm

Anyone seen any Priority point post lately from top guest? The last time I had points post was back on October 12th!

chelmkamp Dec 4, 2010 1:54 am

Haven't seen any Rewards points show up, or transfer to HHonors for that matter. In about 2 days. Hmm...

Well, Friday came and went and points are not in the PC account.

What is EOD?

At my work it stands for End of Day.

I sent topguest an email and they said "we have resolved this issue with Priority Club and you should see your points appear from the start of next week (Eastern Time). Please be assured that nothing has been misplaced and all of your check-ins will be credited."

50 choice points per day at one of Quality Inn, Comfort Suites and Cambria Suites using Facebook Places or Foursquare

Has anyone gotten Choice points to show up in Topguest yet? I've tried checking in twice on Foursquare, it isn't showing up. My account number is a mix of alpha and numeric characters with a hyphen like AA-AAA9999, should I take out the hyphen? Also, I have 400 Priority Club in TG that haven't transferred to PC.

Is a Comfort Inn and Comfort Suites the same thing? This is one I am trying to check in at. http://www.choicehotels.com.au/en/br...en?cid=1043828

I can confirm that both Holiday Inn (as many others have confirmed in here, too) and Wyndham (not sure if others have confirmed, but I am now) have reported fine multiple times. Choice and Hilton - no such luck, yet.

just signed up, live literally right next door to a holiday inn. i'll post how long it takes to show up.

Mintman10 Dec 5, 2010 3:13 pm

If Hilton points post in increments of 50 then I may be wasting my time, however, Priority Club points could pay off in say about 100 days of checking in

Even if you generously value PC points at 1 cent per point (CPP), that's 50 cents per check-in. If it takes you three minutes of effort to get that 50 cents, you are making 20 x $.50 = $10/hour. Probably not worth the hassle for most people.

On the other hand, if you can figure out a way to do, say three check-ins (Choice + Hilton + IHG, for example) in one minute per day and you value them at 1 CPP on average, that would be 60 x $1.50 = $90/hour. Probably worth the effort for most people. Someone who is adept at using FourSquare to check-in and doesn't need to go out of their way to qualify their check-ins could easily pull off each check-in just seconds.

Priority Club points posted to my account today (December 6, 2010) via TopGuest.

bworrell Dec 6, 2010 7:46 am

I know you can't check into multiple PC properties (for example) in a day, but what about multiple brands? Has anyone confirmed they can check in at a PC property and then a doubletree or something?

Yes, I am checking into both a PC and Doubletree property each day and have received credit to both my Priority Club and HHonors accounts.

Yes. I confirmed this a few posts earlier. I haven't had Hilton post for some reason, but apparently the previous poster has. I don't see anything in the system that would prohibit, for example, five check-ins per day, each at a different property.

Westsox Dec 6, 2010 8:33 am

PC and Wyndam Points posted today. Nothing for Choice yet. I pass a Comfort Suites taking the kids to school each morning, and there is a Hilton and Wyndam at the interstate exit on the drive home from the office each day. It takes almost no effort to have 3 check-ins each day.

bosbdl Dec 6, 2010 11:45 am

Does anyone know when the last day of PC points posted in this batch was? I seem to be short 250 points which would make sense if this batch of points was only for October 13-November 30.

Do you mean DoubleTree? That's the only Hilton brand participating so far.

For many it isn't really worth it. I find value in it b/c I live downtown, and am constantly walking around past several TopGuest hotels. The only time I ever really spend is in the winter when slowing down a touch to take off a glove to work my phone. Beyond that, it takes no more than an additional five seconds over not doing it and just walking by. I've gotten to the point where I'm in a conversation with someone walking past a hotel and can check in without breaking the conversation.

My PC account was deleted and then reinstated, hope this does not affect my topguest points accrual

Thanks mooper. Just clicking on the Facebook link (without changing anything) brought up the settings page. All is well.

Got first 50 HH points yesterday and they are already posted to HH account! That was fast.

Not sure this answers your question because it is just one data point:
last post of PC points to my account was dated 12/6/2010.

Remember that 4SQ has a mobile site and an API

Those could make your life (well, at least the check-in part of your life) way easier and less time consuming.

Fox, how do you do that? I tried to check into Double Tree using the Mozilla app as well as http://foursquare.com/mobile/

Both yielded nothing...

Thanks, but I knew the last batch posted on the 6th. I'm wondering if they posted all points up until the 6th or if they posted points, from say October 12-December 1, which were then deposited on the 6th.

I think I'm probably just missing some points or miscalculated something since no one else on this thread has reported problems.

Weird that the web one did not work for you - seemed to work well for me.

For API, on a linux based system you can just call "curl -u EMAIL:PASSWORD -d vid=VENUEID -d private=1 http://api.foursquare.com/v1/checkin" (you can get the venue ID from the above link).
Private = 1 means no publishing of your whereabouts.

ranshe Dec 10, 2010 4:08 pm

Some points for those who may have skipped the FAQ

(I'm one of them, and perhaps it's not mentioned - wouldn't know, as I haven't read it...)

These are from an email exchange with TopGuest support:

HHonors only includes Doubletree
Choice hotels is only Quality Inn, Cambria Suites and Comfort Suites
Wyndham, we currently have a partnership with Wingate
FYI, we currently only award points for check-ins at venues with 'Virgin America' in the name

are you guys really giving topguest your facebook login information or am i reading their website wrong ? i definitely won't do that, but if i can use the standalone foursquare app to do this it might be worth it.

There are lots of apps that require your FB login/pass to work. As long as the company is trustworthy, you shouldn't worry any more than you would giving your credit card info, etc., to a trusted online site. Topguest is reputable - I wouldn't sweat it.

Btw, for all of you having issues with check-in, an easy solution is to download the Foursquare extension for the Google Chrome browser, make sure your city is set correctly, and then check in to your relevant hotel(s).

hmm. well i guess i haven't been exposed to those apps yet. i also resist many websites' pleas to give them my gmail account info to 'find my friends' etc, because a login to fbook or gmail is potentially damaging in different ways than an abused cc number. with the cc, you can dispute charges and close the account and so forth, and that is a system that is set up to require you to give your number to merchants. fbook definitely didn't intend for you to be sharing your login info with the webmaster of topguest.com. that's a dealbreaker for me!

I'm not knocking your prudence... it's better to be careful... but I'm trying to encourage you to not restrict yourself from safe practices that will benefit you. As long as the root domain showing in the address bar is owned by a reputable company, then giving private info - financial, email, etc. - is no less risky (in fact, typically safer) than sharing it in person at a store, etc. It's when you start throwing around personal information without knowing how to distinguish a legit company from a scam or a phishing attempt that you get into trouble. Also, it might help if you take a look at the detailed privacy policies of the companies involved. They probably aren't utilizing your information in the manner you fear. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've had the same email address for 14 years, and I have literally 1000+ online accounts, many that share information in the manners we've been discussing, and I haven't had a single serious incident. I am, however, quite careful in what I share with whom.

That's pretty ridiculous, considering that in their announcement they specified "at a Virgin America airport terminal, baggage claim, or other venue". I certainly assumed that as long as I was in the right terminal, I would get the points. I wonder what they actually expect you to do. At SFO and SEA, there seem to be check-ins for each VX flight number, but that defeats the whole purpose of Foursquare.

Actually, one of Facebook's goals is to become the "One True Way" of logging in on the internet using their Facebook Connect platform. That's what Top Guest uses (as does FT if you look underneath your Welcome message). With FB Connect the website never actually sees your login info; Facebook takes your login info and passes back a token to the website that confirms your identity. It's a pretty safe protocol.

BTW I have no connection to TopGuest, but I am a web software engineer that works a lot w/ Facebook's platform so just trying to help.
