If you are just looking for MQMs to hit a Medallion tier the normal way, then the answer is yes. Need 4000+ MQDs?
If based in a city that is served by Virgin Atlantic such as IAD, JFK, BOS, MIA, LAS, LAX, SFO one of the best options is to fly to JNB or CPT via LHR. This can be done in a weekend and you can usually earn 4-5000 MQDs for under 1300-1600. You need to select Economy Delight which is similar to regular economy but with more legroom and the possibility of earning 20% of distance as MQDs. This is the most common way to earn large chunks at a cheap price.

- if you already have planned travel, consider buying up (in advance, not at check in) for 50% MQM bonus and more flexible same-day-confirmed options which are another way to increase MQMs
- Hilton 250 MQMs per stay of 2 nights or more

$1219 and get 20682 MQMs 4136 MQDs 3.39 MQD Ratio while Delta Diamond members would obtain 37228 RDMs, Platinum 31712 RDMs, Gold 28955 RDMs, Silver 26197 RDMs, Base 20682 RDMs
I believe that as these are A fares you could use a Delta instrument such as a GUC to upgrade into Business Class.

You can get AF codes but 006 stock , still earns as AF...
Also Powertools to Priceline works well....

The issue with September is that there is advance purchase requirements for many fares which complicate finding the deals.... For instance the JFK-DXB in Y+ is a 2023 deal which might make sense to pre-buy as a run for planning purposes.
But my key recommendation is try good old JNB can be done in a weekend with some time to explore London, that will give 5000 or so MQDs or look at a Tijuana trip, perhaps with a few side trips ..

AUS - JNB on Virgin Atlantic is available. Prices in September for Economy Delight is around $1679 for weekend travel. The trip will earn about 26,000 MQMs
I did this right before Covid hit and it was GREAT I was in premium select type cabin on VS and a full day in London to boot ! Was perfect ! Please.. over a weekend
