I can still change my seats online and it looks like I'm going to kill it while it's allowed by Expedia with full refund.

Why would you do that? If the airline cancels the ticket you will get a full refund.

Do you not want to take the trip?

I got in on this at the start (major kudos to soy!), booking slightly after 9:45am EST. ORD-AKL-SYD on NZ, returning a week later SYD-SFO-ORD on UA. I really would have preferred to build in an AKL stopover -- that's where we want to go -- but I couldn't figure this out on the fly and didn't want to miss out. For some reason the SFO-ORD leg booked into econ, which isn't great either, but no big deal. Even if we have to pay to get to ORD, and backtrack SYD-AKL-SYD flights, those seem like minor considerations given the ULH biz flights. After missing out on the UA 'C for the price of Y' error, I didn't think I'd ever again see fares like this. That said, I'm going to wait to see what NZ does here. My tickets are confirmed, with UA and NZ PNL's, and I have seats. I would think at this point they're not going to cancel us, but who knows?

Another data point.
Booking with NZ record locator (NZ outbound) "could not be accessed online"
Booking with UA record locator (UA outbound)
Status is still ticketed

This is really a challenge for me not to do. But I can change seats online, changed the FF on the ticket, added my TSA Pre-Check # to the UA domestic portions and am all ticketed. But of course there's the want and I want to book hotels but obviously really stupid to do so.

Have those who have been cancelled or were told would be cancelled, were your UA portions long haul or domestic only? The one of mine that's good is UA domestic only. The long haul was refusing to ticket and the other dates were working better so I cancelled the one that hadn't ticketed and put my eggs in the basket of the itinerary I ultimately wanted best.

this is where i'm at, no status, live in msp so almost always fly Delta (occasionally American)

was thinking virgin atlantic as its a delta partner and sometimes has good award availability, any pointers on any better programs to put towards welcome

did all NZ bookings from ORD with 7 day stopover in Auckland, all ticketed all seats checked so *fingers crossed*

I absolutely want this trip, it's confirmed and ticketed with AKL stopover for 1 week. Let's see how this goes within next 24 hours.

My only concern is refund from the airlines, if it takes months like what AZ did with their FNR-DUS deal then I'll get my money back first before NZ takes control of this. I have until 11:59pm PST Jan 4th to do so.

I have no problem with NZ not honoring, it's the amount of time it takes for them to cancel and refund, and I don't want too many uncertainties. There's also opportunity costs involved. If your planned trip is set and it prevents you from getting other deals during the same period(s).

I got in on the last big Air New Zealand 'deal' in Sept 2017. It took nearly two weeks for everyone to be canceled. Air NZ is not friendly in honoring these types of fares.

But, given the CX 'special' fare on NYE, and with CX coming out and owning the mistake, who knows! Maybe Air NZ will want to save face and not want the negative PR that could go along with canceling.

Life is like a box of chocolates... I sincerely hope they don't cancel for y'all who got in. I got 3 for spring break, but think I am actually going to cancel as I didn't check my calendar closely enough in the excitement of booking, and my return date is too close to a business trip I need to take.

The thing that's a little odd about this fare is that it is called a weekend "promotional" fare, has a code as well as a long set of rules and restrictions. In other words, by appearances, it looks like a legitimate fare. So if it is a "mistake" fare NZ needs to tell us what the mistake is. If it is simply the amount fare, what should the fare actually be for this very specific "promotional" fare? Or is it a promotional fare for a very limited targeted segment that somehow was made generally available?

The fare rule has this portion "TICKETS MUST SHOW BY THE USE OF AN INSERT OR STICKER THAT TRAVEL IS AT A SPECIAL FARE AND SUBJECT TO SPECIAL CONDITIONS."

I don't read many fare rules to completion but this doesn't seem standard.

Is this article true? https://www.travelandleisure.com/fli...ror-fare-guide or https://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...ares/28141915/

It says the airline has to refund any incidental expenses incurred as a result of a mistake fare. Although I don't believe this to be a mistake fare, if it's true then I should feel comfortable booking a pre-paid hotel since ANZ would then owe me reimbursement for it?

Wouldn't that only apply to paper tickets anyway? I don't see how it could apply to an e-ticket. Also I would take it to mean that the fare is not fully flexible.
