The answer is very simple:

1) you need BA coded flight within USA, not AA and
2) you need that 'I' class is sold out (which is very common for AA JFK-LAX 3 class flights).

Someone very wise at BA (this is RBD 1 controlled by BA, not RBD II controlled by AA) changed the rule for BA I-fares between June this year and now in the following way:

BEFORE: if 'I' class is offered then 'I' class is required, 'A' permitted if 'I' is not offered (ie 2 class scenario only).

NOW: if 'I' class is not available, then 'A' class is permitted

Might have discovered a hint on how to have the 3-class transcons in A (F). Last week when trying to book CAI-LHR-HEL-JFK-LAX-HNL r/t, all tries searching for a return with hubs or flights specified, all dates entered had JFK-LAX v/v in A(F).

Breaking it in multicity, regardless of specifying with flight # or not returned same flights in J. Calling BA , not able to book online, booking fee waived. Changing flight # on LAX-HNL-LAX from to AA to BA increased the price with €4.62 /$5.5 to €1556😂.

Having only BA prefixes on a BA ticket could pose advantageous if crediting to AA

Yes, quite a few posts on the BA Forum on this - it seems that the TCON needs to be BA-marketed, the AA metal needs to be 3-class, and availability needs to be I0.

If you can find a flight which satisfies all 3 criteria, then you should end up booked into A (with attendant earning benefits).

BA coded transcon means a BA fare used, and my comments were for BA I fares only. Not AA, IB, AY etc.

With this kind of complex routing and to find you availability in A easily you rather opt for a TA who can be more helpful in securing A by the rules

haroon145,

Just booked 2 trips 90 minutes, JFK-LAX in A-class.
Sent me pm with preferred routing if help needed and BAEC number.
Look tomorrow when atbwork again.

I'm interested, but couldn't find it at the same price. Is there availability in December 2017 or June 2018?

What is the best price you could get? Was the booking class I or a different booking class?

AOH, NA-Flyer,

NA-Flyer,

Around €1490 CAI-LHR//DUB-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL-JFK-LHR-CAI April 2018.
Many more routings possible, some also increase price.

AOH,

December it's possible, not easy, can be done, but you need flexibility.
June 2018 easier.
