I think its pretty insane how expedia, canada, or usa for that matter, handle package deals.

I mean don't get me wrong, I understand how it works, sure, but honestly, it's pretty damn confusing and I see how this can throw a lot of people.

I mean lets say just your regular average person who has no idea how expedia works books a package, even if there's no coupon involved.

They think they spent $300, then all the sudden the charges start showing up as different because they often go through at different times.

They may see a charge for $200 from some airline and not even understand.
They think they did a transaction with expedia. Then the person is confused, why is the charge $200, where's the other $100 ? then a couple days later charge from expedia shows up for the hotel.

Now I mean throw in all this coupon mess and WOW, it is a lot to go through and keep track of. I mean I can totally see how this is really causing panic with people. Again I know how it works so I was not worried at all, but I do see what a mess this is.

I guess I don't understand why it's not all 1 charge? Why would expedia not just bill the person $300 and then pay the airline for their portion and pay the hotel for their portion ? Why the extra hassle ?

$700 in Expedia refunds have posted to my credit card, but the original airline charges are still all showing as "temporary authorizations."

My statement closes tomorrow. If the charges don't post by then, I can add "postpone $700 in payments to the credit card company" to all the other great benefits of this deal!

For one, because people like me would not book through expedia if they did it this way. It would be opaque to the CC issuer and I would not get 3x membership rewards from a charge from expedia, but from an airline I do.

We have flights to Vegas booked from BLI with rooms at the Excalibur. I've since heard they had a bed bug outbreak this year so I'd like to switch to MGM. Any risk or problems if I contact Expedia and try to change hotels? We booked before the terms were updated to Canadian departures only.

And thanks to flyinghigh77 and everyone else who has added info to this thread.
Uh oh. I also booked at the Excalibur. Normally, I'd read more reviews before booking, but I was afraid the deal would disapear Friday afternoon. That said, the Waldorf and other fancy-ish New York places are also on that web bedbug registry.

I'm staying for only one night as the main purpose of the trip is a MR/SR (and I'll take lots of pictures like this as a terrific bonus!), but even those that stayed two nights (or three or four) just did multiple throwaway flights for multiple single hotel nights.

Since I'm a TA and that's how I type it 1001 times per day because that's what our console-based system demands, it has become a habit even in normal correspondence. That stupid 11/12 gave me a heart attack at Expedia.ca as well, but I find 11 Dec is never confusing since it's 100% unambiguous. (The only other possible interpretation is something that no one does: 11 Dec for Dec 2011.)

I am from NYC, it would be a disgrace if I bring bedbugs home from Las Vegas.

I am also staying in the Excalibur. $20 trick should get me the widescreen room.

Anyone booked GRAND CANYON SOUTH RIM TOUR? I ll be on it on 14th.

Still waiting for my spafinder giftcertificates. Seems like some people who ordered on 19th already received it.

I messed up my first booking this way... trying to book 12/10-12/12 i ended up booking "10/12" - "10/12" some how

Aw well, throw away package. Debating whether or not I want to spend $175 now to get $240 credit for next year
