We're all so quick to complain when Marriott makes an error that harms us. Now I need to decide if I should notify them when they make an error in my favor. Of course this could be the ultimate Platinum benefit: roll over all nights beyond 0 ;-) I think I'll wait a few days to see if they fix this on their own.
I will be highly surprised if it doesn't 'fix itsself'.

I ended with total 110 nights (no PP I guess 110 nights is not top 3%).

Right now my status shows 56 bonus (rollover) and 4 this year for 60 total already. With CC and few stays already booked I am pretty much past requirement for Platinum for 2013.
Now it changed again. It shows only 28 rollover nights.

Based on my calculations it should be 35 rollover nights.

I had 7 rollover last year and ended up with 110 total (bonus + BIB + rollover). If I subtract 75 it should be 35 left, not 28 left.

2010/2011 roll-over nights will not count towards 2011/2012. 28 looks correct to me.

My account is correct

74 nights rolled over as PP. Had 3 nights this year so I am at 77.

The rollover from the previous year do not count. Thus, you need to subtract the 7, giving you the correct 28 nights.

How?

I subtract 75 nights (7 out of it are rollover) so basically whatever is above 75 counts, right? Unless you subtract 7 rollover nights twice then you get to 28.

So...

75 = 7 rollover + 68 regular

110 - 75 = 35
110 - (7 + 68) = 35
110 - (7 + 68) - 7 = 28

See, in their math 7 is counted twice.

Math should be total nights (110) - 2011 Rollover nights (7) - status tier (75) = 2012 nights (28).

Rollover nights do not rollover the following year, so deducting them from the tier nights is not correct (75-7) and that's where your math goes astray.

That's correct. Since your 110 nights is above the 75 nights needed, the 7 rollover nights go away (you didn't need them to make a level) so you have 103 nights less 75 is 28 rollover nights going into 2012. If you only say 47 nights in 2012 then the 28 is added to the 47 giving you 75 nights, making you Platinum for 2013 but with no rollover nights.

Basically, rollover nights are only good for making a higher level and can't be rolled over again.

Ok, forgive me I know this has been discussed over and over but let me see if I understand your explanation.

Let's say start 2012 with 50 rollover nights, I stay 50 nights in 2012 for a total of 100 nights in 2012, so 25 will rollover to 2013?

Rollover nights protect you from a one year dip in activity, but that's about it. I understand not wanting to have nights roll-over twice (ie, stay 225 nights and make plat for 3 years), but I hate the fact that you can't use rollover to re-up status and have the excess roll over. Those excess stays are real stays, not rollover doubling.

Regardless though, that's how they have it set up, so that's what we have to deal with.

Negative, you get zero rollover nights. Only actual stays over status requirement roll over. Since 50 minus 75 is less than 0, you get no rollover. See my above post as to why I think this is stupid, but that's the way it is.

Nope. You'll get none. 50 nights + 25 rollover (of your 50) get you to 75 nights and Platinum status. The other 25 rollover nights weren't needed and so they "expire."

Ok, that is what I was afraid of. I don't want to complain about a program set up to help us out but this is rather frustrating. It also makes the calculation of nights cumbersome. I may end up with 117 total nights this year with no rollover into 2013.

The formula is pretty simple: Total Nights - Rollover Nights - Status Nights = Next Year's Rollover nights. Seems to work every time.

Add the fact that rollover nights count twice towards lifetime status, it's a nice perk.
