Ten (10) Elite Nights are given for each meeting held in a participating hotel under the "Rewarding Events" program. See below for non-participating brands. Information about the Rewarding Events program may be found at https://www.marriott.com/meeting-eve...els/rewards.mi

The 10 elite nights per meeting are independent of any hotel rooms booked in conjunction with the meeting. In fact, no hotel rooms have to be booked as part of the meeting in order to receive credit for 10 elite nights.

Although the Rewarding Events webpage refers to room nights for meeting participants, the most important section is the one that states 10 Elite Nights, regardless if you or your guest is paying for it

In general, a written contract is required (or should be obtained). In many cases, the meeting is booked through a central Marriott group sales office instead of directly with a hotel. If booked through a central Marriott group sales office, there is a three-page contract that makes reference to the Rewarding Events program on page 2 of the agreement. A MR member number should be included in this area of the contract by the group sales office.

FAQs:

Q: What brands participate in the Rewarding Events program?
A: AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft, Autograph Collection, Courtyard by Marriott, Delta Hotels by Marriott, EDITION, Element, Fairfield by Marriott, Four Points by Marriott, Gaylord Hotels, JW Marriott, LeMéridien, The Luxury Collection, Marriott Hotels, Marriott Vacation Club, Moxy Hotels, Protea Hotels by Marriott, Renaissance Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, St. Regis, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels, & Westin.
Residence Inn by Marriott, TownePlace Suites, & Marriott Executive Apartments do not participate in the program.

Q: How do I find a hotel that participates?
A: Click on the link to the Rewarding Events page and then in the "Plan" section of the page click on the "Find a Hotel" box. Enter the city you'd like to have your meeting in, purpose of event (Business) and then check the "I need meeting/event space" box. Enter the size of your meeting (2 attendees should work) and then click the "Find" box. Leave the start date and end date blank. A list of potential hotels will be shown. The smallest meeting room is not usually shown online --- you may need to call each hotel to find out which one has a boardroom or other small meeting room. Once you've found a small meeting room, then request a quote online.

Q: How quickly will Marriott respond with a quote?
A: Usually within a day or two --- and usually via email. The email should contain a telephone number of the group sales contact. Give them a call and tell them you'd like to follow up on the quote and you're interested in booking the smallest room available for a 2 person meeting for an hour. If they quote a price that's higher than you want to pay, ask them if they can get approval for a lower priced meeting (e.g., a recent quote was for $75 for an 8 hour use of a CY boardroom). They accepted a counter of $50 for a one-hour meeting in the room (plus service charge plus local sales tax). Urban hotels may charge significantly higher rates for meeting space than a smaller, less congested city.

Q: Is a contract required?
A: The terms of the program suggest "yes" --- although there are reports that 10 elite nights have been granted without contracts. A best practice would be to obtain a contract.

Q: How long do points and EQNs take to post after the event is over?
A: Generally, this takes 3+ business days. According to Marriott, it can take 15 business days. If you do not see anything post after 15 business days, contact the hotel before contacting Marriott customer support. The hotel has to be the one to post it.

You will get an e-mail with a subject line Your Rewarding Events Award has Posted: EVENT NAME

Q: Will the hotel know what I am talking about when I say points and elite night credits?
A: Probably not. They may know about the rewarding events points being 3x per dollar spent, but not always. Usually they know of only the Marriott system (Group Posting Tool) where they input how much you spent and when. This is done after the event and is usually authorized by the sales or general manager.

Q: The contract doesn't say anything about points, will I still earn them?
A: YMMV but so far all the electronic contracts from the website state it, but some fail to read it. The paper contracts usually talk about points, but some reports that they don't, but still post. Remember this is a Marriott Rewards benefit that the hotels don't seem to be footing the bill for.

Quick questions. I just booked a meeting with Marriott in 100 $ . I have two questions regarding meeting stays. Sales manager send me contract which does give me option of reward number.
1. Will i get 10 nights and will these night count towards platinum challenge
2. I opted for stay challenge ( 9 stays ) , do you think Marriott rep can change this to nights credit ( 17 stays) ( since i will get 10 nights ) - I already have 4 nights and 4 stays

Thanks for your help

Rewarding Nights stays do not count towards any sort of challenge. I think this is the FAQ somewhere.

Only a few away from lifetime platinum. When I achieve this milestone, does anyone know if I'll get any type of email or notification? I didn't get anything back when I hit lifetime Silver and lifetime Gold. I was Platinum already for the years when I reached both of those lifetime milestones so the status on my account wouldn't have changed from Platinum down to Silver or Gold.

Tips for those who are reluctant: I've booked about 10 meetings in this process at various locations. In my opinion, requesting a contract is a waste of time (unless you're trying to get $50 meetings) because you could get screwed if the location doesn't know about rewarding events/how to post after your meetings. Just go on the Marriott website and do a search for locations that let you book without a quote. If you see locations that offer meetings for $150 (they exist) if you book an hour meeting it'll drop to your total to $75. Every meeting I've booked this way, the property has known about rewarding events and I've always received my points/nights towards elite status. 100%. All you have to do is confirm your Marriott Rewards # when they reach out to you about paperwork/event details. The only difference is some properties post immediately, others take up to 10 days. I've shown up for some meetings, and missed others. No difference, as others have said no one checks if you're actually using the room. Feel free to PM me if you can't find locations. Happy to help!

I concur with everything #teammoney said!... quote online, cut time down to one hour... and you should be golden!

I on the other hand am at 0% on booking the meeting online and getting credit for it (ok, N=1 sample size). Filled out my form and everything. Even showed up but never credited...YMMV.

Posting my experience with timing and such...I booked a meeting room at the AC Marriott Westport (Kansas City). I stay there alot so its easy to just ask the staff to let me pay for the room for a bit. I used it on June 28th, got my points on the 11th (I reached out to the sales manager to have him look into it, and he manually posted the points), and got my night credits today (the 13th). The sales manager said he didn't have access to manually posting night credits, but they posted on the day I planned on calling into customer service to see what the issue was. Also -- my night/points for the hotel room itself was delayed (may or may not be related) until the 10th. I had to call and ask for my folio to submit an expense report. That is VERY atypical for any marriott i've stayed at, let alone this one...

All told that's basically 2 weeks for everything.

thanks, i did find an address upthread for [email protected] (just in case someone else is looking) and i'll give the property a few more days to get things sorted out before i email them--and open another case, i suppose.

i also saw something waaay upthread about the front desk possibly charging the event as a room rate rather than a meeting rate, and sent that to the GM as a suggestion, along with the thought that he might try contacting 'marriott property support' which is apparently a group that will help properties with this sort of problem, although they won't talk with end users (us). he didn't respond, but i'm hoping he's actually working on it.

Very curious to see the response time and success rate with this

I held a few meetings the last week of June. The manager finally posted them using the Group Posting Tool on Friday, July 6. I received no email notification or nights/points, so I checked in with him yesterday (one week later). While I was on the phone, he checked the Group Posting Tool and all the meetings were listed as "Pending" which he was surprised to see. He wasn't sure what the issue was, so he said he would look into it and get back to me. He's relatively new manager, so perhaps he's just not well versed in the Tool? Any thoughts as to why the meetings would be showing up as "Pending" in the Group Posting Tool? Thanks!

I'm having the same issue: one week after posting, the meetings are still in "Pending" status.

Glad to know I’m not the only one - keep me posted! Anyone else had this issue and know how to get it resolved?

This is an interesting data point about ‘pending’ meetings (and not posting). I’ll ask the GM I’ve been dealing with if he’s seeing the same thing.

Finally received the posting email 8 days after submission. Nights came along with it (though the Marriott site is slow to refresh, I was able to confirm they were received).

Huge shout out to this thread! I'm a long time Starwood member and will end this year with 850+ nights and 9 years platinum in SPG however haven't had any status in Marriott before. I signed up for the Marriott credit card for 15 nights and worked with a hotel to do six 30 min meetings over the last two months for only $53.5 after tax per meeting. Grand total to get a year of Marriott platinum and ensure I get LPP status was only $321! Well well worth the time it took to find a hotel who would do this for me.
