Since you want something on/close to the strip, your options are really the Cosmo or the Chateau. The other Marriotts are over by the convention center. While they are close to the convention monorail stop, it shops around 1 or 2am during the week so if you are out late, you'd be stuck taking a cab.

If you wanted to try something different, the Chateau is nice. Good location also just a small block off the strip across from City Center/Cosmo. Its a quieter place if you'd like that after being with the crowds and noisy casinos.
Ill give the Chateau a try

Try the sans-Cosmo

Fairfield

I have stayed at the Fairfield, Courtyard Convention Ctr. & Renaissance all with good luck.

Sounds like your wallet (or travel allowance) is a little larger.

Looks like you will have to rough it again at the Cosmo.

If you don't want the Cosmo & you want to be close to the strip, sounds like Chateau is your only option.

I've stayed at the Ren & the Marriott a # of times, but I was there on biz trips at the convention center.

Cheers.

Cosmo is definitely the best for action and fun.
Chateau is good, but I had several issues with my last stay (including internet being down the entire time). I think your experiences will probably be better. Easy walk to the Paris/Aladdin and MGM.
Renn is decent, and the walk to the monorail is under 5 minutes
FS Marriot is also decent, but it's a bit too far from monorail for my liking, so I ended up cabbing it everywhere.
CY is just across from the station, but I had a bad experience there, and overall, it's at least one notch below the others above.
Haven't stayed at the Residence (also near the monorail) or the SHS (I think it is fairly close to the LV Hilton monorail stop).

I would just stick with the Cosmo in your situation. It's the best one of the bunch.

The dif btwn Ren to monorail & Marriott to monorail is 2 minutes. The advantage of Ren to mono vs. Marriott to mono is Ren is already on the side of the monorail stop & Marriott you have to cross the street & walk 100-200yds more. You're right that SHS is close to the LV Hilton mono stop.

In the case of the OP though, the non-strip properties aren't probably what he's looking for since he wants to be near the action of the strip. One advantage of staying at Chateau is that he'll then have that experience, and on his next trip will be able to decide if he wants to go back to the Cosmo.

Cheers.

Agree that Chateau is closest to the action/strip if "no" to Cosmo.

Now is the opportunity for me to gain something here too based on your experience: 2 extra minutes to the FS Marriott versus the Ren?

Ren is 300, maybe 400 feet away. I found that walk effortless and you are there before you know it.

As you wrote, the CY (and also Residence) are actually closer, but you'll spend more time waiting for the light to cross Paradise to get to it than the time it takes walking from the Ren.

So, when I stayed at the FS Marriott, I thought the walk to monorail would be fast too. It is caddy corner from the Residence. But, when I tried to cut across the Residence and get to the back of the FS Marriott, that wasn't as unobstructed as I hoped. I had to navigate fences, etc.

So, the alternative was to walk down Convention Center drive, hang a right, follow Paradise, then cross it at the Monorail. That ended up talking 15 minutes.

My experience was not the same as yours. Did you take the LVH stop from the FS Marriott? Maybe that one is closer.

Chateau or Cosmo. The other choices will yield the typical Marriott "business trip" experience.

It definitely doesn't take 15 min to get to the monorail from FS Marriott. Did you sightsee along the way?

Anyway, hopefully the OP will come back & let us know what he chose.

Cheers.

hello everyone,

Thanks for all the suggestions but I am just going to go with the Chateau. On my fun vacation trips to Vegas, Cosmo has been our go to hotel for the last 2 yrs, so thats why I wanted to try a new place

I have never stayed at a vacation club, but do they honor all the usual Marriott elite benefits? I am gold as of now so an upgrade or breakfast would be cool.

thanks in advance

No special benefits at vacationclub properties except for 500pts gift for plats at check in. The Chateau doesn't have breakfast or a lounge... they just have a small market. There also is a small rooftop pool/deck until the larger pool goes in after the next tower construction is complete (which is in progress now).

You won't get an upgrade to a different room category, such as a 1bdrm villa if you book a 1bdrm studio, but you can get a better view there especially by asking.
