W Las Vegas, NV (co-located with the SLS Tribute Las Vegas) [Master Thread]
Starwood has announced that following the acquisition of the SLS Las Vegas, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, the 289-room LUX Tower, one of the three towers onsite, would undergo a conversion and renovation and reopen as W Las Vegas in September 2016. The W will have its own dedicated entrance, lobby, meeting space, pool and facilities and will be managed by Starwood while the remainder of the SLS will remain under its current management.

Do I understand right that Starwood owns the whole complex, but the part that's to remain as a Tribute hotel isn't managed by Starwood? That seems strange, including the fact that if they can break the existing management contract for the W portion, I don't see why they can't do the same for the entire place.

No Starwood does not own anything related to the SLS Las Vegas nor are they the managers. This is one of the majority of Starwood properties which pay a management fee to Starwood for the affiliation but the hotel itself is owned and run by other entities. Nothing strange about it.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) today announced its single largest addition of hotel rooms in North America since pre-recession with the signing of SLS Las Vegas on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and Sahara Boulevard. Owned by Las Vegas Resort Holdings, LLC, the three distinct hotel towers, encompassing more than 1,600 guestrooms and suites, will be branded by the end of this year under Starwood’s recently launched Tribute Portfolio, while the 289-room “LUX Tower” will be converted to a W Hotel upon completion of a renovation in 2016.

Has anyone who recently stayed at the SLS/Lux Tower noticed any renovation work going on? I haven't seen any renderings online for what the plans are so maybe someone on the ground might have a better idea.
We're just over five months out from opening day so it seems within reason to think that works have started. Any feedback would be appreciated!

The corridor to the Lux tower from reception had temporary walls when I was there in February, behind which I was informed will be the W reception/living room. On check-out, they mentioned there might be some changes to the decor in the rooms. So, there's definitely something happening.
As of now, the W Las Vegas website shows the current LUX tower rooms (which are quite nice) as the future W rooms.
My guess is they will take down the wall drapes (they have giant cloth pieces that cover the walls in the rooms with SLS designs) and likely change the fonts used on things like the room numbers on the doors, and small things like the accessories of course.
But mostly, the rooms already look like they belong in a W hotel, which I'm sure will make their transition quite easy. The locks on the rooms are already the chip-based ones like the W use as well.
I don't see them making that many changes at all to the LUX tower to change it over to a W, as the two brands are very similar.
I myself am excited to see what they do with the W's grand opening. I'm sure they'll do something massive, and it'll be fun to be a part of.
I am deeply curious as to what they will try to fetch for the W's room rates, as the SLS it seems as been trying to get rates anywhere from $100 - $150 lately, but that may be also because more events are happening this time of year around the convention center area. However, I doubt that in normal seasons the W will be able to get much more than $150 for weekdays, hardly more than $250-300 on the weekends. The location still just isn't good enough to justify higher costs than the Bellagio, Aria, Caesar's etc.

Oh-oh. I have a reservation for a Lux tower room in December after 12/15
This is my final brand for the Dashboard promo. I need it to post as Tribute. My confirmation says SLS Tribute.
Can one of the Lurkers confirm this will count?

If this is a W when you are slated to stay, it will count as a W brand stay, not a Tribute brand stay.

W Las Vegas - Opening December 1, 2016
Now bookable!
I looked to book a room for next spring and they are asking for a hefty resort fee. Would that apply to a Platinum member?
