The Drew Las Vegas Resort (EDITION & JW on the strip) [Master Thread]

Marriott press release:

Marriott International and Witkoff Set to Open Integrated Resort to be Named The Drew Las Vegas | Marriott News Center

"Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) and global development firm Witkoff announced today a plan to open a new resort at 2755 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Ushering in a new era of world-class hospitality, the integrated resort and casino to be named The Drew Las Vegas will debut the EDITION brand in Las Vegas and mark The Strip’s first JW Marriott. Anticipated to open in late 2020, the resort will feature nearly 4,000 rooms and suites as well as over 500,000 square feet of convention and meeting space. Once open, the hotels will be managed by Marriott International.

Two Blackbirds Hospitality, led by renowned hotelier and former Cosmopolitan CEO John Unwin, will oversee the launch and operations of The Drew Las Vegas. As an integrated resort, The Drew Las Vegas will be home to a broad offering including a casino, luxury hotels, together with convention facilities, entertainment, nightlife, retail and dining curated into one cohesive guest experience."

Thank you for posting. I wonder why they changed the name from Fontainebleau to The Drew?

love it! Haven't stayed at any other Marriott properties other than the Fairfield tower that I believe is near this. (still have to make my way to staying at Cosmo)

I'll be curious how they treat plats but it will have to be like when Cosmo first opened to make it worth my while to stay that far down the strip.

I can't believe they finally are going to finish this thing. There hasn't been any construction in years, it's just been sitting there 90% or whatever completed since 2009.

4,000 rooms divided between a JW and an Edition.

I think the Fontainebleau name was officially removed from the project way back in 2009 when the company went bankrupt. If they wanted to use the name now, they'd need to license it from Fontainebleau Resorts LLC, which still operates the Miami Beach Fontainebleau. That seems like a poor way to spend money, considering many people with just a minimum knowledge Las Vegas associate the Fontainebleau name with the eyesore that has sat unfinished for about a decade now.

That said, I'm not sure that "The Drew" hits the jackpot as far as resort names are concerned.

Hi,

I keep thinking of Drew Carey ( Whose line is it anyway) rather than Marriott.

One of the press releases mentioned 3 hotels on the site, do we know if that was a typo or what the 3rd brand would be?

Speculation is that this is a tribute to the purchaser's son, Andrew, who died of opioid abuse.

...and supposedly actually operated by Marriott International, not by a franchisee. It'll increase MI's head count by perhaps 4-5 thousand.

[New York developer Steve] Witkoff’s son, Andrew Witkoff, died of an OxyContin overdose in 2011 at age 22, according to reports. The property is named for him, said a person familiar with the matter. Another source said it’s named in part as a tribute to Witkoff’s son but there were other reasons as well.

Same here, actually. But it's remarkable this is actually going to open.

Fontainebleu has been an abandoned construction site for about 10 years now. Name changed probably so people won't connect to the big blue shrink wrapped eyesore.
