It was about 2h after buying the card, but online it showed "active" I tried twice and I think it got the card put on hold. The customer service had to activate it again for me.

Two questions:
1) I only see the Vanilla's that you can load with 20-500. There are no fixed $500s correct?
2) Did anyone else get "card" error before?

*edit*: Even after reactivation not going through for an online utility payment. Will check once again tomorrow morning and then ask for a replacement

1) Correct!

Alright, I was able to put $5 on my Amazon Balance for the card. Based on the conversations here I was really hoping to load it into Discover. Is it worth trying again?

ya think a MO for less than $500 will work at Kroger or Safeway? Or could wait for a day or 2 later to try again?
FWIW, $250 was another attempt at a 2nd WM

yday again tried to liquidate / load a pathward VVGC1 after an organic spend of $2 in store.. 1st, loaded $198 to One (success); 2nd, loaded $300 to the same One acct (failed with DNA error); wonder if that might have been a success had i asked to load $498 in 1 swipe instead; will try to load a remaining $300 later & see

at a different WM, attempted to load VVGC2 (with a full $500) to a different One acct for $498 (failed); then, asked for a MO for the same amount (success)

Lol, mine was a pain comparing to some of ya that are still able to load $1k with 2 cards

Yes. I tried again yesterday and the $200's didn't work. It is always hit or miss on the $200 VGCs from Staples. The same thing happens to me when loading BBs.

Tried to load the discover card with different amounts: $500, $250, $200 VGC this week. All failed. The sutton/pathward VGC were purchased at Giant stores.

I've taken the liberty to change the account limit in the wiki from $20K/mo to $10K/mo. I have two One accts that both have had an even $10K loaded to them in the past two weeks and I haven't had luck with further loads with VGCs. So as a test I just went to my WMNM and tried to load a token $50 to one of them with my bank debit card (not a potentially problematic VGC so it definitely should have gone through) but it got the Debit Not Approved notification. This $10K limit is in direct conflict with Discover's officially published limits which say The weekly limit (per rolling 7 days) is $7,000, and the monthly limit (per calendar month) is $20,000. Please be aware that these limits are subject to change (https://www.discover.com/online-bank...cking-account/)

If you have better info about the monthly load limit feel free to correct my wiki correction.

Hello, I am doing Staple VGCS and MCGCs on Serv.BB at FD right now and would like to try the Discover Load opportunity. Would someone mind taking the time to go over the procedure at WM?
what is the procedure at the store? Thank You in advance for any help.

Simple answer (no split transaction)
  • Walk up to Customer Service counter or Money Center (if they have one) and say "I'd like to load my debit card".
  • They press some keys, and say "Insert your card". You insert your card.
  • With Discover, you have to enter your zip code.
  • They say "how much you want to load?"
  • You say "$200" (since these are Staples cards)
  • They say "Confirm $200"
  • You click confirm, then you swipe your GC
  • It almost certainly likely fails, because GCs from Staples suck at WM
  • You leave feeling dejected
For the more complicated version, you ask to load 2 GCs worth and ask them to split the transaction. They get might weird on you at this point.

I was planning to load other GCs such as Vanilla s. Can it be done at a self-serve kiosk?

LOL the dejected feeling is real. I’m fortunate to live in the Midwest where I have access to 3 krogers, 5 Meijer, and 2 Walmarts all within a 20mile radius. I just single swipe for MOs then move on to the next store. Deposit them into either of my 3 local credit unions.

I tried to load a Meta MGC bought from OD in Wally today for $60 out of $100 and the card did not show the prompt for debit and instead went to credit and got declined. I have tried 1 more time and then paid cash atleast to make the transaction. Then I asked if I can try 1 more time and use as Pathward MGC for $100 and it did not work. Then the lady wanted to see the card and said that you can not use a debit GC to load. Then I went to a local grocery store and used the card to buy a $199 MO and it worked. It was my first time trying to load into a Discover and it does not look very good.

MCGCs generally get charged as credit. I have had zero luck loading them directly.
Staples VGCs (with preset pin) will work up to $99, though at times only $49 (YEMV).

Not worth the effort if you ask me, but to each their own.
