They claimed it was sent from Kroger corporate (not Fred Meyer).
My local QFC just sold me $4500 in Visa GCs with no problems. Hopefully it doesn't get hard coded and the memo stays within Fred Meyer.

Keep buying 10 at a time and pretty soon you would have a QFC specific memo.

The death of the Old Blue Amex will hopefully calm this type of activity down.

I usually buy 2 at a time then another one at a different counter.

My last 2 visit have been 3 in one transaction.

Is it better to split?

It is always better to NOT draw too much attention to what you're doing. The way I see it most cashiers and even low level management does not understand what turning around thousands of dollars at a time would be good for. They try to get by with a $12-15 salary, maybe $20-25 for the supervisors if at all. They simple don't understand how or why people would buy $2-3k worth of giftcards at a time and then they see you coming back the other day rinse and repeat. They start speculating and tell their superiors about it and then those folks see corporate profitability problems looming on the horizon and then the SHTF...

It certainly increased the availability of visa gift cards in my area. The racks were always emptied quickly before. Ever since the first OBC deathblow the racks have never run out of cards.

I just got a call from Fred Meyer corporate. I had asked for clarification on the memo and apparently it was a mis-communication. They said the new rule is max $2k with credit card and beyond that cash only (up to 10k per day).

ETA: They said they called Kroger corporate to get clarification, so it seems as if this is coming from the top and CC purchase limits may be on the way.

Good to know. I tried to get a VGC at a Fred Meyer today and the cashier said cash only.

Well if I'm not mistaken the "delta region" refers to a couple states around Alabama, correct? Fred Meyer is in the PNW...

I'm just happy that this was kind of a hoax but then again I'm not surprised that cashiers take it for face value as they have most likely been instructed by their supervisors about the cash only thing. It'll be hard to convince them otherwise unless corporate instructs the chain of command to do so.

Western TN.

Kroger usually have this trickle down or domino effect. If one region changed its policy then other regions would follow suit.

If kroger makes VGCs cash only, my MS days might be over. Mixed blessing.
