I don't know about that. Most stores are just worried about fraud. A higher percentage of GC sales will be fraudsters now that OB is dead.

They simple don't understand how or why people would buy $2-3k worth of giftcards at a time and then they see you coming back the other day rinse and repeat. They start speculating and tell their superiors about it and then those folks see corporate profitability problems looming on the horizon and then the SHTF...
I would think quarterly same store sales numbers would prompt managers to welcome MSers... Even if they lose a few bucks per 500, MS is pumping up volume numbers such that each VGC equals 2-3 "customers".

What doesn't make sense with the fraud prevention angle is that fixed value gcs are not cash only and there are no limits to them...at least that is the policy read to me at my Kroger. If I'm committing fraud then why do I care about minimizing fees?

my local Smiths (in Utah) seemed to be out of the variable load VGCs so I purchased a single variable load MCGC on 1/2/14 with a CC.

Worked fine, and unloaded with the cancel trick to my Bluebird the same day.

Anybody else noticed that several Ralphs were out of stock on the $500 VGC today? Wife and I went to like 4 stores before we could satisfy our craving for a giftcard...

smh @ the assist to drug dealers/money launderers (by kroger and virtually all others), allowing them $10,000/day. seriously, who else would be buying more than a few $100 with cash?!?!

frankly, with our big brother government, i'm stunned that any of these products can be bought WITH CASH. they've got the banks so scared to take cash that they close accounts with minimal amounts of cash in and out, while leaving this gaping hole in the system.

frankly, chip and pin should have been here 2 years ago and then all products like the ones we buy should be CREDIT CARD ONLY! seriously. every dollar we have in bank accounts, overseas, etc is now reported to the government- why does the black market/underground economy/criminal economy get a pass by allowing infinite purchases of untraceable products like VGC's with cash?

it's such an obvious hole that one might think that those who have pushed this police state/IRS agenda have consciously targeted certain citizens whilst consciously turning a blind eye to others.... do the math.

I'm still bummed that Smiths now disallows purchasing money orders with gift cards. They were the easiest by far in the area.

I was limited to $2,000 total VGC purchase at my local Kroger today. I went to my regular cashier I was told that starting very, very soon, these would be cash only. Something about a meeting they had this morning (they must have gotten the memo mentioned earlier in the thread).

Central Ohio region.

Any other Ohio reports?

Thanks

Not really. It's just you didn't try to find the other ways

I do know of several other alternatives, but none that are cheap (49 cents), allow unlimited splits, and are as convenient/fast.

That's ok... things always change!
