Hi FTers this is my 1st post and please don't blame me if this info is duplicated - I didn't read the entire post so maybe someone already have this info.
My local CVS allows cc purchase for VR. But the cashiers always ask me to hand over my cc. Today when I was asked to show them the cc, I asked the girl why they need to see my card. She said that she needed to say that I wasn't using a prepaid card to purchase VR. So there it is, they are not checking the identity, nothing else, just to make sure that I wasn't using a prepaid card. Well, of course I wouldn't be using a prepaid card! But why? They definitely have no problem with cc, just not prepaid card? Who would use a prepaid card to buy VR anyways? As you may have read in the Wiki, this is very YMMV. You'll hear all types of excuses. The down and dirty is: You can buy up to $5k of VR in 24 hours as a nationwide policy of CVS. However, local CVS set their own rules and have all types of excuses as to why they may not sell to you or whatever. Just keep shopping til you find the CVS that best fits your purchasing patterns. |

so lets keep it quite, like I have no idea what 4 stores you've hit up and you have no idea what stores I've hit up, if we run in to problems, we send a message and ask, not throw it out in the open.
I understand he wants to do something nice, but this isnt nice to the people that have done the legwork and found the CVS that works for them. I have personally walked to all the locations on the list, I believe that literally qualifies as 'legwork' and no less, in weather that recently can only be described as resembling the planet Hoth. I've began organizing the information so that it can be useful to other DC area MS'ers. I have no need to be thanked but criminy, lay off already. To be clear, I only posted 3 stores. So relax! 3 lines isn't going to grind the world to a halt. The dynamic spreadsheet will be discreetly maintained in Gdocs and only available to DC locals. Now if you can take a few deep breaths and chill out, PM me for the link. |

By the way, I think the sharing of information is very useful. But the one flaw I see in the spreadsheet is that your experience in each of those stores is only a snapshot. Two stores were out of stock, but only on the day you went there. It might be useful to add a column of the restock day each week. So even if they are out of VRs on a Friday, they should have more on Tuesday. Also, the store that has "cash only" could have just been a single cashier who said cash only.
Otherwise, very good info! The hosted list will be regularly updated but it will need to be more like a Wiki because I'm not going to every single store in greater DC and Baltimore. Gdocs has cooperative editing so I think that's likely where it will land. |

when did DC become a state?
You know you're absolutely right. I should have put, State/Commonwealth/District/OverseasTerritory/Or just, you know, any collective body that we nominally govern/ That would have been so much more correct. Thanks for that. |

I expect I'll be publishing this spreadsheet on some cloud somewhere, in the meantime, here's what I'm putting together. To the other DC denizen who knows of cash-beans CVS joints near the Capital, do tell.
I'll be putting one together for Baltimore as well... http://i.imgur.com/Z7lPd2j.jpg |
Most ppl can litterally count the number of CVS stores within (sustainable) driving distance from their house or place of work on One hand.. That's five fingers... Aproximately 5 stores.
Was it neccesary to make a spreadsheet of a handful of stores that are a go/no-go? Putting aside the questions of your short term memory, and most importantly, was it necessary to post it on the web for posterity? If you wanted to highlight you excel formatting skills...mission accomplished. What color is that bluish gray? Its pretty... |

Conveniently, the list you saw has stores with no VRs or VRs for cash only. I have spent a lot of shoe leather trying to find stores in DC that have them. They exist, even today, but the availability is sporadic from one day to the next. As far as PMs go, please don't ask me where to get VRs. I'm not going to get burned again by a FTer.

Pls stop reposting the picture, it hurts mah browser. There's a pretty active Serve forum in the MS thread, I'd check there.

Cashiers ask for card to verify the last four digits. So that is why they are asking you for the card.
No biggie. Don't want to show it, don't buy. :) What I usually do is cover the number to make it easier for cashier to see the last four only. 95% of the time! they don't ask to see the card! and in my hand good enough. |

I've had good luck with VR and have conditioned my credit cards to accept the purchases at CVS. Now that I am successfully running $5K monthly through Bluebird, I would like to increase spend to $10K monthly. Is there any means other than having a relative open a second Bluebird or is there an alternative to VR that I should use?
