My CVS got probably a 5 inch stack in on WED night and it's down to about an inch now. Going quick.

are you BPing yourself or legitimate bills? I write a check to myself for $2K, deposit via smartphone and it's a 4 min process. I must be missing something here (wouldn't be the 1st time)

I know this is trolling, as others have already pointed out. But since so many people chimed in to reprimand this type of thing, I just have to say that it's no more morally wrong to take unactivated cards out of the store with you (with the intention of coming back to activate them later) than it is to hide them somewhere in the store where nobody else can find them. In both cases, the cards are being denied to other customers. In both cases CVS is still ultimately earning its $3.95/card, but later in time than it would have had the cards been in their proper place.

So to those of you who reprimand this activity as some type of "moral" wrong, I hope you are not VR hiders, otherwise you are equally morally guilty.

As for the legal perspective, while hiding VRs in the store may not be "shoplifting," I wouldn't be surprised if it could still land you in a world of trouble. At least civilly, even if not criminally. If you ran a business, how would you like it if your customers hid products so that others couldn't purchase them, costing you profits?

At least at one store where I've talked to an employee while trying to find VRs that she knew was in stock, but were obviously hidden, she stated that they don't (or maybe just she doesn't) mind the hiding, as long as the VRs don't leave the store. This was in response to my question, as we were hunting through the gift card rack, as to why they don't just keep the cards behind the counter if people were hiding them. I got the feeling she was more amused by the hiding than anything else. Like squirrels hiding their nuts.

I went into a CVS today for some VGC and was told the maximum I could buy was 1 card for $500 AND they'd need my license. I politely asked why and the store manager (who looked like a 16 year old) said it was "district policy". Even though the CVS 1 mile down the road will sell me $2k no problem. Very frustrating!

every time I find hidden VRs I either buy them or expose them because I think hiding them is stupid

Yep I do the same. I always put them back in their correct place.

You really shouldn't have left the store with them.

What I do is buy my daily allotment, put all the remaining VRs I'm not buying that day in a pile on the floor, go get some hair spray from the cosmetics aisle, douse the cards with a fine spray mist, pull out a lighter, and then set them on fire (while chanting the PIN number off each one I sacrificed).

I do this to save the time of others coming in from having to go through the racks thinking they're hidden. This way, they can simply walk back out the door by immediately knowing there is nothing for them in that store. I figure this ritual is a polite time-saving courtesy to my fellow MS'ers.

blast from the past...

Went to a local store that's pretty well stocked.

Had a good assortment in the racks. Got my daily supply, and as I was turning the cards over to check the security of the PIN protective layer noticed that a few of the cards were the old-style, small-PIN-area, ones!

Didn't they phase these out over 3 months ago? I wonder if they would even go through for sale (I substituted out).

Have no idea if they were "found" after several months and put back, or they've had so many cards that they've actually sat for that long. Thought it was funny (that, and the clerk who addressed me with a "Oh, so you're getting some miles today?" greeting!).

I would be surprised if the people who are hiding them are the same people who only buy 1 at a time for a total of $499 so they don't have to get their DL scanned. When I find the hidden VR's I usually will buy the whole pile, if I need it or not. Sends a message to the idiot not do it...

Ditto.

I am planning to buy $5000 at one go if I find them. Does anyone here do that? Any shut downs? I have done $3000 with a citicard and it went through.

Awesome. I see the current state of FT has served you well. Next time please post your excel spreadsheet and/or flow chart so we can marvel at your magnificence.

maksimfa Feb 28, 2014 1:46 pm

If the guy is a troll or not, it hits on the truth. I guarantee there are FT users who do not post, yet have taken VR's with them or hid them.

Not everyone is fair or righteous. lol.
