But the problem is that while the manager thinks its doing what its doing for their security, they are putting us in a tough situation. #1 rarely works as their response is sorry then i cant sell you the cards. Thats our new rule so see ya.
Lets say some disgruntled store employee DOES steal your identity and has your cc and id info. What are you going to tell visa? That yes, you GAVE them it? Well, my plot is to get the store in trouble for their actions. It may burn the store at first but the goal is not just to get points, but also save OUR arses too. Call the cc company and explain that just as you made a successful transaction at the store, now an employee has walked off with the cc and maybe copied it. Im accusing the store staff of id fraud. Then, yes, you may likely need a new cc sent out so the store just cost you as you needed to use it daily. Now call the cops and repeat the claim and say you wish for an officer to come right now and file a report so theres some record of that employee taking your id as when you leave youll need to know who to go after if anything ever goes wrong. I find if you explain you will do these things, the store may give in. If you do have to actually do these things, they will never do it to another customer again for sure |
If i run into the problem of a store taking my ids out of sight, the first thing i do is google the local police and then i show the clerk or manager whats on my phone about to hit "send"
|
And so despite risking losing points that sale or in that store, i figure i want to take something from them in return. I get them in trouble if they fail to comply with MY security!!!
It is high time we reverse this fraud scare crap |

It is high time we reverse this fraud scare crap Not to mention, the half-assed training their employees get… from cashier to store managers. How the hell is it fraud after you have matched a photo id to my cc?? Couple of weeks ago, I saw a guy show 3 cc's to TSA on Monday morning and get through security bcos he left his DL at a restaurant the nite before. Crazy, absolutely crazy. |
I had a store want to see id... And a second id. I showed my passport id card. They still were unwilling. I showed my ss card i carry. Medical card. 6 cc and bank cards w name on them. Pictures of my kids. A gas bill i realized i happened to have on me. Mgr and clerk were so overzealous the more i tried to prove the more they thought it must be fraud. Mgr wanted to call some department so i waited. I let her take my id. She came back and said ok ill let you do the transaction. I completed it.
Then i laid into her to the point she was shaking. When i left the store they were saying how sorry they were--please bring back your business etc |
Our security in these matters is more important than theirs. They have money, lawyers and insurance. What do we have if the store gets a copy of both sides of your id and cc and later somehow you happen to experience id theft?
What if a later fired clerk steals your info? Would you like to deal with that? Again, maybe letting them copy your id is one thing. But cc is not acceptable. Now you need a new one and if you just moved or need it to buy other things this week, you will now have a battle in getting it replaced that the store put you in. Sorry, but the minute they took your cc and copied it, its as good as having had it stolen from wallet. How long would you wait to deal w that? We need to turn this sh*t around and make store mgrs realize that they either sell the stuff or they dont, but if they do this, we will take swift and abrupt action. Filing a police report for example--even if nothing comes of it--would at least record the incident and so later, IF something goes wrong, YOU have some accountability. As well i want to send a message stating that i should be treated with respect as a customer and they will pay if they wrongly slander me and alude to fraud. Of course if people reading all this doing ms still feel wrong about it, STOP DOING IT AND STEP ASIDE SO YOU DONT RUIN IT FOR THOSE WHO DO IT RIGHT! Stores are wrong for what they do sometimes. Aside from wanting points or miles, we need things to be right |

Just started seeing this at one of my nearby stores in CA. :td: to those that just take to other stores. Name and number of store blurred for uhm.... ... science. |

Another two grocers also lost $XXXX on Reloadits bought the same way and now they're cash only. Just because a photo id matches a CC doesn't mean the transaction is guaranteed to be fraud-free.
Again: why the f are they even selling these things if they refuse to do business with a buyer? Is it my race? My skin color? What? Because they afraid to do the sale? Then get out of the business of selling stuff! |
And id also like to have a local cop verify that yes, this store or others has had recent fraud. Otherwise i call bull.
|
Finally, if people are worried that getting upset about it and asking mgrs for pics of THEIR id, or calling the cops in may hurt your future MS... Well heres something thatll really mess it up:
Id theft |

I didn't have to. I happened to walk in to one store when the cops were there talking to the store manager. One of my regular cashiers clued me in on what happened.
MS has risks and challenges. What happened to you at your store is inappropriate and reflects poorly upon that store's employees. But if you're in this game, you should have better ideas than calling the cops on the store manager for refusing to show you his ID. |

This is why it is important to have a working relationship with the clerks, if they know YOU, then they know you aren't a threat... Once again people, it's business 101....
