I drove down the road to one of my go-to locations and purchased $2k without any issue. :D The only consistent thing about buying VRs is the inconsistency. |
It is never a problem for us at local stores in Kansas.
It has always been a problem at all stores in Vegas. Hmmm. |

Just another data point:
For the past several months I've been manufacturing $10K a month using VR at the same CVS with no issues. The CVS always has plenty of VRs in stock, and the cashiers have always been comfortable and helpful with the transactions. Unfortunately, over the past couple of weeks I've been having issues and today they officially shut me down. Here's the long version (as told to me by the day manager and independently confirmed by 2 cashiers). The manager (who's a miserable f**K) has been getting inquiries from their corporate audit/compliance group regarding large VR transactions. The manager hates dealing with audit/compliance so he's asked his cashier to stay below their internal reporting threshold (it's not clear what this is). After various cashiers exceeded this a few more times and the manager got more calls from audit/compliance he put the kibosh down and said no more VRs with credit cards and each transaction needs to be rung up separately. I feel confident about the facts above (again independently confirmed), but his excuse is suspect. When I asked the manager about this he said it was a corporate policy that's been out for several months, they've been having a lot of issues with VRs, and he's been asked to enforce it now. My take is because he's a miserable f**k and doesn't want to deal with this issue he's lieing about the "policy change." One thing is certain though, the point of sale system still allows VR purchases with credit cards (again independently confirmed), it's just the cashiers have been told by the manager not to use credit cards and to ring up each transaction individually. I'm going to try again this weekend with my favorite CVS cashier, and if she declines the credit card use I have to visit other CVSs. This worries me cause I need about $24K in spend over the next 3 months to meet my card bonus thresholds (2 citi exec elites and 2 united chase) and was planning to up my VR MS to $15K. I'll report back. $10K in a month using VR? How many vanilla reload cards did you buy in single transaction in one day? What did you say to the cashier or manager as an excuse if you made a big purchase of VR in single transaction like that? When I bought 2 cards at CVS today, the cashier looked at me with a weird look and asked me for my ID and she verify it for a long time and she even called the manager in the back office to report if someone if buying VR with AAdvantage credit card. Do you think I can buy 4 VR cards in one single transaction? I am anxious on meeting my minimum spending requirement of $10K in 3 months for Citi AA card. |

Strange thing happened to me yesterday. Goes to show that there is no policy at CVS. Every cashier is different.
I picked up two Onevanilla cards and one moneypak to the register. Cashier was able to ring up with no issue.. except the moneypak card needed to be paid in cash. Cashier said the MPs require cash but the Vanilla ones could be paid with CC. The limit on those were $1000 a day. So we took out the moneypak No problem. Problem was we had to cancel the entire transaction since the two Vanillas had already activated and the "manager' on duty didn't have a way to remove just the MP. So I walked back to pick up two new OneVanilla cards and stood in line again. A new cashier rung up both the Vanilla cards but the register wouldn't accept two cards so he had to ring up one per transaction. I asked him why he needed to ring up one per transaction? He said he didn't know. I asked him if there's a policy on how much I can buy per day. He said there's so many policies in the store he can't keep up with them all. He was not being rude by any means but it came across like no one really knows what the policy is at CVS. |
So CVS is discontinuing cigarette sales, guess they don't like cigarette addicts. Are MS addicts next?:p

But I don't understand why did you buy OneVanilla and MoneyPack, what's good with them compare with VR?
There is nothing really to compare them about because they are two separate products; however, many surpass the $5k BB limit and need other outlets. OneVanilla, MoneyPacks, etc. are two of those alternative routes. can they be reloaded into BB? How can I utilize OneVanilla and MoneyPack into my MS? Thank you in advance. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manuf...ebit-card.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manuf...bit-cards.html |

I'm not sure if anyone has encountered this, but I went to my CVS last night just to check if they have VRs, which they did! Anyway I grabbed 2k worth (first time because they usually deny me and let me do 1k) and I gave the manager my id and card. He scanned it and everything went without a hitch. So I asked him about how much I could buy at one time and he said 5k, which made me extremely happy. The next thing he said was that they are putting a weekly limit on how many VRs you can buy. Maybe it will be a store policy and I haven't gone to any other CVS to confirm it. Anyone else encounter this?

Last evening, having just received my new AA card I went and picked up a VR and my credit card didn't go through. The cashier said it needed a pin or a different form of payment. She also said that she sold others last night as well WITH a credit card. Fast forward to this morning, I received a fraud alert text from citi telling me to respond to whether or not it was me purchasing last night. I said that it was. My question is: Is this a normal occurrence for the first big purchase using this card OR do I need a PIN code of some kind OR is the store's POS machine not allowing credit cards for VR and the cashier was mistaken? Would appreciate some expert advice. This is my first go around with VRs.

There should be no issue after this, and if there is, simply clear it while you're at CVS, and swipe again! |
Thanks Healthnut, I think I'll warm up my car then go for a ride!
