Haven't seen too many reports of BB shutting people down. You're probably safe.

Last time I bought VRs in my "go-to" store, cashier told me that corporate calls every time after my visit (in 5 min after I left) to check with cashiers if they check my id and so on. They watch closely...

Would seem kind of silly if they knew who you were and insistent on regular ID validation... unless ID scanning was part of the process. |

Yes, but a $1K purchase can trigger a fraud alert and tie up the cash register for 10 minutes. Chase seems to do this a lot. Amex does not.
Boy, glad that I updated my personal info before using Chase CC. |
My MVD went Inactive: how do I get the funds?
Today my MVD went "inactive" and MVD CSR said "....it's a gift card and you can't get money off it, only use it to purchase..." (yeah, right...) This is my 1st time to go "inactive" status! Help! How do I get my $$$ off the card?

2 - flip it 3 - find the 800# about 12 mm from top 4 - find a phone 5 - dial the # 6 - talk |
My first attempt at beans was unsuccessful today. None in stock...should be coming on the truck tomorrow. I was told this by a guy wearing a tie (a manager or assistant?). The youngish polo-wearing cashier next to him said "so and so said they deleted the SKU yesterday." The tie-wearer didn't comment and told me I could try back in a day or two.
Having read much of this thread, I assume the "deleted the SKU" comment is just one more of the untrue things people have been told about VR. At least, I hope that's the case and that I didn't completely miss the party. |

I'm lucky thus far that I have found a couple (Chicago area) that still have a stash available but because of my lower CL and only two CC's that have more than 1x cashback on them, I've only been getting a couple at a time. I'm afraid once the stash is gone, then we're SOL for a while.
I hope not. |

Two recent transactions at my go-to location in the Philadelphia area. Saturday, and just this evening. The cashier (different one on each visit) called over the manager (different) for verbal approval of the CC purchase. Each time I was only getting two VRs of $499 each, so they allowed the transaction (the register certainly allowed the CC transaction). The fact that two different cashiers called over the manager when they learned I wasn't paying by cash, leads me to believe this particular location might be getting suspicious (or on the verge of a local cash-only policy?). With tonight's purchase, I cleared the rack of VRs.

Just found some at a local CVS - guy next to me grabbed 2 then went to pay with his Citi AA card too.
Dont think I have seen this covered - is there danger in giving your CVS Member number? I havent been but maybe there is some upside in doing so? |

Often $1000 or more. But typically less than $4000 per client.
(b) Gifts (1) Limitation No deduction shall be allowed under section 162 or section 212 for any expense for gifts made directly or indirectly to any individual to the extent that such expense, when added to prior expenses of the taxpayer for gifts made to such individual during the same taxable year, exceeds $25. For purposes of this section, the term “gift” means any item excludable from gross income of the recipient under section 102 which is not excludable from his gross income under any other provision of this chapter, but such term does not include— (A) an item having a cost to the taxpayer not in excess of $4.00 on which the name of the taxpayer is clearly and permanently imprinted and which is one of a number of identical items distributed generally by the taxpayer, or (B) a sign, display rack, or other promotional material to be used on the business premises of the recipient. One way to get around the gift rule is to issue a Form 1099-MISC to the client and state that the amount was given in exchange for services rendered by the client. That might anger your client, though, and if you don't file the Form 1099-MISC on time, you'll be liable for a penalty. The payor must issue Form 1099-MISC by February 28, 2014. If the payor fails to do so, the penalty against the payor varies from $30 to $100 per form ($500,000 maximum per year), depending on how long past the deadline the payor issues the form. If a payor intentionally disregards the requirement to provide a correct payee statement, it is subject to a minimum penalty of $250 per statement, with no maximum. So you have two very unpalatable choices - limit of $25 per individual or telling the recipient you are going to make him pay tax on the income from the VR cards. When I was an IRS revenue agent, I frequently threw out the taxpayer's deduction for gifts to clients to the extent the amounts exceeded $25. Just note that this could happen to you, assuming you really are that generous. |
