My CVS had been out for a few days...checking in this afternoon and there was a stack hanging behind the counter (I like this better...no MSers hiding them!). I hadn't purchased with CC before at this location, so I tried one for $500. Cashier simply asked to see my ID to match to the card, we had a nice chat, and I was on my way.

ETA: NYC.

Ha ha, either that guy is lying or he is a very bad secret keeper. I'm pretty sure if the alphabets were watching the store, they would have told staff to keep mum.

Maybe your area has been specifically bad with fraud, etc. Such as the fiasco that was happening in ATL where VRs were being tampered with out of the factory.

Hope it clears up soon for you!

If DEA was calling to monitor VR sales, the ONLY thing they would care about is knowing who was paying with CASH. Money laundering is not done via credit card for obvious reasons! And you are right, the DEA would more than likely inform CVS NOT to divulge to anyone that they were monitoring VR sales. But there's always the dunce in the room who doesn't follow or know the procedures.

As to whether it is possible that DEA did call, I would say it is a definite possibility, because government agencies try to find as many leads as possible to carry out their missions. When I worked for the IRS, you can bet there were plenty of ways for an IRS agent to find unreported income. Normally, it would not be via a phone call but instead the issuance of a summons for bank or credit card statements. No secret about that.

Paul one day we'll run into eachother. :-)

CVS downtown is my go-to, since I work just a few blocks from the capital. I tend to zip over on delivery days after work. My GF has also gotten into the MS game, so she's also now a CVS shopper. We don't (and never did) play any of the games hiding stuff or trying to hoard, so hopefully you're not blaming me! Like you, I see this as there are many avenues to play the game, and 4 CVS in town. The others are more of a drive, but we're always out and about and just stop in (like rollin' the dice).

It's a distribution problem. I've cultivated some nice-customer relationships with a few of the people, so I very much doubt they're mis-informing me when they say that they order them, but they simply aren't coming in. This is similar to a month ago, and a few months ago: just a supply dry-up. Not the end of the world doom and gloom, nor a pack of roving VR bandits wiping stores out.

I've noticed the same as you: When VRs dry up, OVs start thinning out, too. Good thing for the VGCs at the new big grocery stores. ;)

I just called the Mineral Point Rd. store and the clerk said they had some VRs in. Maybe two will be left by the time I'm able to get out there this evening.

How would the IRS even know that they spend 100K/year on anything? CC spending is not reported to the IRS.

I almost stopped at my local CVS this morning, but got cold feet and kept driving to work. Maybe tomorrow I'll give it a try.

VRs showed up in time for me to complete filling my BB this month. No worries.

I bought a ream of paper at Staples today, and might just return the paper and use the massive receipt length instead for printing.

DEA not likely the agency involved. They, like ATF are have specialized, focused missions. USSS, FBI, and task forces that are inter-agency are more likely to be involved in our arena.

Also, you don't issue a summons for bank or credit card statements. You with obtain a warrant or subpoena (during discovery).

So it has come to this...

I expect I'll be publishing this spreadsheet on some cloud somewhere, in the meantime, here's what I'm putting together. To the other DC denizen who knows of cash-beans CVS joints near the Capital, do tell.

I'll be putting one together for Baltimore as well...

Today i walked into one of the closest cvs stores around where i live. The store manager came and he was saying about not letting people buy VR with CC. I told him that I bought here with CC a few nights ago. He went on to say the latest communication I had on these is that people are doing so many things with these, yada yada blah blah. After noticing I lost interest, he said look you can buy the Vanilla visa and mastercard gift cards. I bought two vanilla gcs for $1000 and bolted.

Try next day. Don't argue that you bought before. Don't be "that" guy.

Come in again later and try again.

We all know CVS registers let you buy up to $5k with a DL scan a day.

Some staff make up rules as they go along in order to limit risk.
