Seems like CVS in Chicago havent been restocking for over a month, the CVS in my office building was bought before the new year. Hopefully VR isnt a thing of the past here, was hoping to pay for a chunk of my hotel stays for my upcoming honeymoon.

I haven't seen a VR at a CVS in Illinois in over three weeks. I asked an employee at a store that used to be well stocked and they had no idea if they were getting more.

Was good while it lasted!

I'm pleased to report that two different CVS locations in the Philly metro area were decently stocked with VRs, after being out of stock for most of January. I purchased just a $500 VR each (the other day at one location, and another $500 just now at a different location). CC purchase went through fine. Knock on wood.

VRs are $1.00 less and you can deposit them online. It's a better deal than Vanilla GCs, although this week at Walgreen's was better because of the $5.00 Walgreen's GC.

Vanilla GCs are the prepaid Visas right? How do you even use those? VRs are infinitely easier to use with a BB.

Just made a quick round today & my usual go-to store in the west suburbs was all out. Didn't realize this may be statewide, looks like I got into the game too late!

This game is one of endurance and perseverance sometimes, not just quick scores. The CVS 6 blocks from my house hasn't had them since they hit the market. Today I stop in there out of desperation since my 3 usual places were empty, and viola! Boatloads of beans! Just keep plugging and check the stores you gave up on, you never know.

Did my first $2,500 day (500 x 5 cards) in Philly suburbs and no problems. Plenty of VRs, but then Philadelphia-style Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is well known. ;)

Except you're wasting hours of your time hunting them down, and you can realistically max out $10-15k per month if everyone in your family gets BB cards. That's puny MS volume compared to what's possible with GC -> MO

3 days ago, I bought a VR at the CVS on Roosevelt by UIC. They only had 5 total and the manager put the other 4 behind the front counter.

Bought 2 x $500 at CVS in Orlando, no issues except they had to be done as individual transactions. Plenty of cards in stock. Down the road another CVS had a sign saying "Cash Only".

That just depends on where you are. They were easy for me to get, and you didn't ask about volume, just why some people preferred them. By the way, some here have reported far more than $10-15K per month.

I do both, but if I could do unlimited VR, I would give up the GCs entirely.

I see there are several philly people here. Any idea on Giants policy with $gift cards? I went there for the 1st time and got 1 $500 with a few groceries no problems...wondering how easygoing they are.

Which county? Up here in Bucks it's been hit or miss this month.

Obviously, I would do too, since it's $1 cheaper. I don't like the idea of keeping up with multiple prepaid cards and always risking shutdown. I don't think anyone (or very few) can push $100k/mo with VRs only, while with GCs it's easy.

In DC Giant is easygoing. They do not allow buying a GC with a GC, but that is the only restriction I've run into.

Their main downside is Giant rarely has the discount offers that Safeway and others have, so it's hard to get the cost down.

I tried to buy a variable load one at the self checkout, and it failed. The cashier was more than happy to try to ring up the purchase at the service desk too, but that also didn't work. I tried a debit card too, which also failed. I have bought a few $100 Metabank Visa GCs with a credit card without incident via self checkout.

Did you go to a manned cashier lane or complete via self checkout for the $20-500 variable loads?
