Sounds like he has an ego bigger than his bank account, and wants to turn it into his personal playground. Hopefully the FS can find a way to get back into the region at some point.

What are you thoughts on Chinzan-so leaving?

Anyone heard more about this?

It probably must be dubai . It was not officially announced but construction started anyway .

i haven't visited their Provence property but i have been to Chinsanzo and am really sad that they are closing . Despite the location problems and outdated decor , it was a beautiful property with its gardens , bridges etc- a peaceful retreat from busy Tokyo.

Hope this isnt a final decision .

Is Chinzanso closing, or is it just changing management?

Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St. Petersburg is set top open in May 2012. It's the latest information I received (fact sheet from the hotel).

independently run the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so from next year.

The Tokyo-based tourism company said it will refurbish the luxury hotel in the capital's Bunkyo Ward and rename it under the theme of Chinzan-so

You're right, as it looks like it will get a makeover and remain a "luxury hotel".

The FS Orlando at Walt Disney World broke ground.

FS Shanghai Pudding is under HPL hotel group now. HPL own 7 Four Seasons hotel and resorts, I am pretty sure they will open door very soon this year.

The Pudong building however seems a bit odd- unlike its competitors nearby (Park Hyatt, RC, Shangri-La) it will not have any view to speak of (which is a shame as watching the Bund is impressive).

I did a full tour of FS Pudong last year and thought it was really nice. The views are, in fact, superb, especially from the huge pool and spa area and the club floor. Although it is not as tall as its neighbours, this makes for a real sense of intimacy. The rooms and suites are strikingly designed, with splashes of red and very unusual bathrooms. Given that this is a business hotel, I thought it looked excellent.
