Assuming the weather is similar to Spetses and Hydra which we've been to, March can still be very cold - the weather should improve from say mid April and will get cold again from mid/end of October. July/August can be unpleasantly hot with temperatures up to high 30sC even 40. The best months to visit will be May, June and September. Even if the pool is heated - do you want to have to get out of it in temperatures of say 10degrees C.
Given the current economic climate - I can't see many Greeks buying or even visiting. Wealthy Athenians like to weekend on Hydra or Spetses many of them owning villas there. The expensive boutiques in Hydra are testament to the wealth of the visitors - not sure if they're still there as it is a few years since we visited.
I saw from the tweets by Bonnie Gokson linked to earlier in this thread that she didn't actually stay at AmanZoe but was staying on her yacht nearby and just visited for the day. She had some stunning photos of the islands she visited as well as those of AmanZoe.

I couldn't agree more....except for the sea which looks typically Greek, the hotel looks frigid and could be anywhere in the world. Why does " luxury" have to sacrifice warmth and character? To stay 6 kilometers from the sea....in a Greek resort....is crazy.

I agree - I have to be on the coast if staying in what is supposedly a seaside resort - 6kms away is very bad planning. There will be little in the way of sea breezes to ameliorate those high temperatures in the summer months.

Great greek contemporary design

Very happy, that Amazoe has this light, modern, contemporary design with greek materials and inspiration, and no bad-taste-ornaments. Much better than all old-school-pseudo-grand-hotels in Greece and elsewhere!

I am especially happy that this modern design will stop conservative travellers from going there, attracting a more progressive audience.

I agree. Building a hotel like this inland in Greece is very puzzling.

I just don't understand it either. This is one of Greece's most expensive hotels and it's not even on the water. That's quite a risky proposition.

It's a matter of taste I guess... never thought of myself as a "conservative traveler"....but give me the Grande Bretagne any day.

im becoming extremely confused.

how about naming a greek property or european beach property that looks better?

(that doesnt even get into beach properties in europe and luxury resorts in europe.)

At the top of the hill, 183m above sea level, stand a couple of imposing buildings containing the restaurant and other public areas. These evoke, just a little preposterously, the Parthenon as the Greek-born Italian artist Giorgio di Chirico might have painted it. Indeed, the whole site conjures a style you might call neo-neoclassical, with its colonnades of not-quite Doric columns – 566 of them – and acres of pale marble. They’re certainly striking but redolent not so much of the Enkoimeterion and amphitheatre at Epidaurus (45 minutes away by car), the Treasury of Atreus at Mycenae or the Temple of Hera at Argos (both about an hour’s drive) as of the fascist interpretations of classicism you find in Rome, though on a less aggrandising scale.

The Blue Palace on Crete. (Starwood Property) to name one. or a half dozen properties that hug the caldera on Santorini.

as i read the latest departures introductory essay (by the author of The Liquid Continent) i was reminded that culture is a major part of amanresorts. with aman's new mediterranean properties, while i dont recall re sveti stefan, ruya reports already mention cultural offerings. all 3 properties also have historical offerings, including onsite at sveti stefan.

does zoe have cultural offerings yet? does the village of porto heli have particular potential?

Porto Heli is not to be recommended - it is an ugly little town. There are however lots of incredible small, unspoilt villages near Amanzo'e which have some excellent restaurants and tavernas. You can also get a boat to Hydra or Spetses for the day, for sightseeing, shopping and restaurants. LOADS of historical sites fairly near, too. There is a LOT to do here, that's if you want to leave...

I think you should all go and stay at Amanzo'e before passing judgement. I have stayed there and most other so-called luxe Greek properties and believe me, nothing comes close to Amanzo'e - certainly not The Blue Palace on Crete (or for that matter ANY resort in Crete) and not Katikies or any of the Santorini hotels, or any of the hotels in Mykonos, or any of the hotels in Athens.....

We will really think twice before going with such rates. And I live in Europe.
The rates for next summer at Amanruya have been released and are similar to those at Amanzo'e (from E1100). I can't decide which to try first....
