I agree The Conservatorium is the best. The location is great. The rooms are fresh. And the food was pretty good. I spent two long stays there this summer and both were outstanding. Both the Junior Suite and Royal Duplex Suites that I stayed in were wonderful... but it was the staff that really stood out. Great local recommendations for restaurants and reservations. They took great care of me.

- art otel ($238)
- Crowne Plaza ($184)
- NH Barbizon Palace ($158)
- Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Centre ($170)
- Krasnapolsky ($170)
- Park Plaza Victoria ($163)
- Renaissance Amsterdam ($224)
- Swissotel ($214)
I never really want to go to Amsterdam as I think it is EXTREMELY BAD quality for money. But I have to, as my family will be furious if I don't show up at least once a year.
Thus, the list of properties above seem to be the most acceptable of the bunch near the train station.

Best hotel for train station prox. is NOT a luxury hotel [therefore not applicable to this forum], but it's quite obviously the DoubleTree....which is spitting distance from the station. So short a walk that cabs refuse to take you from A to B.

Yeah, the Art'otel is about 2 more minutes away from the station (although that really depends on where in the station you need to go). Would get my vote. Nothing like the best hotel in Amsterdam but pretty decent....

Waldorf is a bit modern though...just not as modern as the Conservatorium.

But Sofitel Grande is contemporary - a real mess of a design, IMHO, by Sybille de Margerie. Truly frightful in some of the public areas and suites!

If you want to be near Central Station then go with Art'otel. I just spent four nights there and I was surprised that I really liked it. Very nice touches such as complimentary breakfast, including delivered to your room. The bathrooms were very large and well appointed and well stocked. Turn down service included essential oils for easing stress and inducing sleep. The rooms are large, bed very comfy. indoor pool also, Staff were great.

More for Amsterdam

Not all luxury of course, but development is certainly on the up. The Paleis van Justitie site, if picked up by Rosewood or Four Seasons, could be a serious contender. Four Seasons has been rumoured for so long, not on the canals though, so let's see.
