Worth noting that the Amstel is a very short (1 minute) walk from a metro station (yes, Amsterdam has an underground metro).
I know, I am Dutch. I lived there for 30 years. So, which hotel would you pick:

- Crowne Plaza ($184)
- NH Barbizon Palace ($158)
- Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Centre ($170)
- Krasnapolsky ($170)
- Park Plaza Victoria ($163)
- Renaissance Amsterdam ($224)
- Swissotel ($214)
I never really want to go to Amsterdam as I think it is EXTREMELY BAD quality for money. But I have to, as my family will be furious if I don't show up at least once a year.
Thus, the list of properties above seem to be the most acceptable of the bunch near the train station.
