LH did do a good job rebooking me on the next available flight, but I was used to this:
"When incoming flights are delayed, Ramp Direct Service (RDS) or Gate Direct Service (GDS) picks up passengers and their luggage at the aircraft or at the arrival gate and escort passengers directly to their connecting flight."
I was surprised that no-one was there, and only pax to NYC were picked up. It's a first time for me that this service wasn't provided. And to be honest, if I didn't have a meeting to attend, I wouldn't have minded, but I didn't have time to loose and I counted on this above promise.

"Both services are subject of availability of resources and actual operational requirements, and cannot be booked by passengers."
They have a limited number of vehicles available and understandably give priority to passengers connecting to flights (usually longhaul) with less opportunity for being rebooked on a later flight.

However, as Munich Airport's website goes on to say:
"Both services are subject of availability of resources and actual operational requirements, and cannot be booked by passengers."

I just have to repeat that (if I have to change planes) I love connecting in MUC airport - it is so much better than FRA! Awesome lounge too. ^
My only complaint is getting off a 11-hour overnight flight and having to haul my luggage down stairs and onto a bus. LH should arrange their gate traffic so as to give priority to long haul customers. And MUC should expand to accommodate the traffic. I can't think of a single major US airport where I have ever had to use stairs and buses. It's archaic and not very friendly for aged and disabled travelers.

BTW I check my luggage so I don't have to haul it down stairs.

A new terminal is being built in MUC to be operational in 2015. There will be 52 gates and 27 aircraft parking positions, so the new terminal will more than double the number of positions with passenger gangways. More information may be found here.

Hmm.. Does this mean we are actually increasing bussing? Presumably the other 25 gates will be used as bus gates?

But the main reason I love MUC is that everything is right there in that one building. No tram/bus/whatever to a building a kilometer away!

First transfer @ MUC, 3 questions
Hi Everyone
First time flying LH and therefore through MUC. Travelling on a British Passport.
Flying YUL-MUC-DUS-NCL in C (on an Aeroplan Reward), I have 3 questions:
1. Do I need an invitation to the Business Class Lounge(s) in MUC & DUS or is Boarding Pass sufficient?
2. Are there showers in the lounge in MUC, if so, what is the procedure for getting access to one?
3. If I am on a British Passport is customs/immigration relatively straightforward, anything to look for. Also, which Lounge area will I end up in Schengen or Non-Schengen?
Really appreciate any answers/help you can provide.
Thanks in advance

1. BP is all you need to access the LH Business Lounges
3. There's nothing special with Customs (you shouldn't have to go through it until you get to NCL unless they are enforcing spot checks) or immigration - You're entitled to join any queue as an EU Passport holder. As for Lounges, at MUC, it makes most sense to use a Schengen Lounge for your domestic Flight, and at DUS, there's only one Lounge, which is in the Schengen area, from where it's just a short walk to the non-Schengen wing of the Terminal for your Gate.

55 min connecting time in MUC (Athens-Munich-Chicago)
I looked at the historical on-time performance for LH 1751 departing 1:05 PM from Athens to Munich and it looks quite good - however I will only have a 55 min connection in Munich when I arrive at 2:40 PM to pick up LH 434 at 3:35 PM to Chicago.
Is this a connection I should even think of attempting, considering that (A) I will have to go through exit immigration in Munich and (B) possibly extra security for the US bound flight?
Thanks

Mrlassen
Last month I did a 40 minute connection and had to go through passport control. It was close, the airport is well marked, so ask what gate your next flight is on whenever you deplane, and don't wast anytime.
I checked with my airline prior to traveling and they said 40 minutes was enough.
Just follow the signs.
