CO to LF Connection in MUC
Hi everyone
I'm planning a trip to Munich, Amsterdam and a few more cities, but wanted some advice:
We start off with a EWR-MUC CO flight that arrives on a Saturday at 10:25am. Since we are staying with friends in Munich, our trip is centered there. On that same Saturday, however, we are planning on going to AMS (Amsterdam), and from what it looks like KLM and LH (Lufthansa) are the two main airlines who fly there (suggestions welcome though). My question is how much time do I need between flights since my luggage won't be checked through as these flights will be booked separately with different carriers? The other thing is, my flight to MUC is Continental, but is actually being run by Lufthansa. If I end up booking a Lufthansa flight for MUC-AMS, is there any way to have my bags checked through?
Thanks very much, I really appreciate it.

Will be flying UA to MUC and connecting to LH to VCE. I know its probably been asked before but this is a Non-Schengen to Schengen connection correct? Does that mean we do Immigration at MUC and nothing on arrival in VCE? If so what signs do we follow on arrival at MUC? HAve flown to MUC many times but have always exited the airport there.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I would allow two hours in Munich for connections if on two PNRs but it is still your risk. If the price is the same, stick to LH since your arriving and departing flight would be out of the same terminal and a connection can theoretically be done in 15 minutes. It is about a half hour schlepp over to your KL flight plus security, etc.

Customs of your checked bags will be in VCE. Assuming you have nothing to declare, just walk through the green channel. Customs officers can detect by your suitcase label if you have originated within Schengen or not.

Immigration will be done in MUC and also customs of your hand luggage. Your flight will arrive on the H level, the VCE flights from the G level! This will be signed and super easy.

No matter who you are flying with, bags can be checked through, just show the PNR of the second flight at check-in!

I have only less than 1 hour between my 2 LH flights at MUC
Flight schedule:
LH 731 scheduled to MUC at 5:40 = need to clear immigration
LH 2440 dep MUC at 6:30
I have previously able to make the connection (with Mr.Nacho) - running from one end to another. They waited for us.
Wondering if there are any LH staffs that can get us through faster?
I'll be travelling with 3 small kids.

since you have done the connection before, you know that immigration takes about 5 minutes and the walking with kids maybe another twenty from gate to gate. LH staff knows that you are on a connection, so they will wait for you or send somebody in case your inbound is late. don't worry, you'll be fine!

If you want a guaranteed help it may be wise to book the family service:
http://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/Lufth...Family-Service
This is not the run of the mill UM/WCHR assistance, but a personal PA.

50 minutes is usually plenty in Munich. Which class are you traveling in?

I haven't actually seen any staff at MUC helping anyone, normally the flight arrives on time or earlier (as long as there is no police checking passport at the walkway we should be fine - have tried it once sometimes ago). I have done this more than once and everytime LH731 tends to park at the gate at the end of the terminal.
Thanks Oliver for letting me know the Family service. I think for 55 EUR I can spend the $$$ at MUC to give ourselves a treat and wait for the next flight (I believe there are several connections between MUC and CPH).

Excellent point re: HKG. One reason I am one of the few FRA fans around is frequency and alternatives- best airport in the EU in that respect. I have yet to be successful however in getting moved from a LH metal flight to an SK one. Two airlines that are both STAR Alliance and I have had a much easier time getting moved to CX for example. Strange.

I can imagine it's easier to move you to CX if you are going to HKG. It's cheaper for them to pay CX rather than get you a night plus food and drinks plus the EU compensation at FRA.
Personally I prefer MUC than FRA because almost all the time I connect there it involves a long walk (through a long tunnel). I also had to wait in a bus to the aircraft for 30 mins for a flight to DFW - then everyone had to walk out of the bus to the staircase to get on board. Before we sat down on board the plane started moving.
Not sure how flexible it is for them to move anyone to an SK metal but I don't really care because IMO flying with SK on Y is like flying with a low cost airline. Also I don't think I'll be willing to do so because it might affect the mileage accural (for M&M there will be no mileage given for flights not operated by LH).
