Any reports of cancellation NOT resulting in an immediate opening of the room? I have several days booked on points but I want to swap out a couple days for free nights. I would hate to lose a night this way.

In my experience with the 3 nights it took from Tom, it took a couple of seconds and I had to be in the screen of the Thalasso. The searching page with Bora Bora showing also Le Moana did not show the nights after they were released.

You might be better off calling an IHG reservation agent than relying on the web. I had a similar experience with the Hilton Moorea. I wanted to exchange an existing points reservation for free weekend nights award on the Citi credit card. I called the Hilton Gold desk and got a very helpful agent that made the change for me. I don't have first hand experience on this with IHG.

I tried to do this (switch from award to free night), but they wouldn't budge. Kept telling me there's no availability and that the inventory space is different. Could have just been the agent though. I haven't tried again since then.

Ugh so I'm in the same boat as you DaveinLA...have a bunch of nights and would like to swap out the award night on points for a free Chase night. Can't do it online obviously because the award nights are sold out. I'm wary of releasing a night because I don't want to lose the night. Anyone else have luck getting an agent to do this?

Can you clarify this? What screen do you mean you need to be on? Still think I'd be foolish to try and cancel my points night to use a free Chase night...

Sure, I could not find a way to upload pictures here (dumb I now) hence I created an album in my profile with the screens: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...-thalasso.html

What I was trying to say is that you have to go all the way to the last page to actually see availability.

See the pics in the album and let me know if you need any other information.

Questions?

My reservations on IHG say Status: Modified
I have IHG Platinum Ambassador (paid upgrade to ambassador)

They modified my adults from 2 to 3. Does this mean anything? Does it mean we are getting upgraded? (nervous happy dance?)

We have 2 weeks between moorea and bora bora stays at:

IC RESORT AND SPA MOOREA : OWB paid for with UR points - this one just says confirmed (it wasn't showing up until I spent a 1/2 hour on the with Chase UR travel to have them push through the reservation to give me the reservation number).
4 nights at Hilton Moorea (Citi Hilton reserve free weekend nights:3, Amex MR travel booking for one night to OWB)
IC BORA BORA RESORT THALASSO SPA IHG points: Status: Modified Number of Persons: 3 Adults
IC LE MOANA BORA BORA IHG points: Status: Modified Number of Persons: 3 Adults
IC BORA BORA RESORT THALASSO SPA IHG points: Status: Modified Number of Persons: 3 Adults
and last night at
IC RESORT TAHITI IHG points: Status: Modified Number of Persons: 3 Adults

Do you get upgraded as Plat Amb in Moorea/Bora Bora at any of the IC?

I could us Amex Membership reward points to book a night at the IC Bora Bora Thalasso the night before the IHG points stay (113,279 for Emerald overwater villa - Breakfast for up to 2 adults). Do you think that would help to get more of an upgrade?

On a slightly related note, what is the deal with no bookings possible at Hilton Bora Bora? No cash, no points, nothing???

I've had that happen a couple times... doesn't mean anything... not sure why it happens on their properties (all the same operator)

I am also IHG Platinum Amb and whenever the status becomes "Modified"; I have always received an upgraded room from what I originally booked. In my instance for my award booking for IC Thalasso, my status is modified and but it is still shown as "Emerald Overwater Villa" (same room type as booked) but they advised that a note has been placed on my reservation that I would be placed in either 204/205, which I think are one of the best Emerald OWBs on the resort. Still hoping to be upgraded to a Sapphire at check-in though! *crosses fingers*

Did you email the hotel asking for 204/205 or did the hotel note the record proactively?

Interesting, I booked 4 nights on Emerald Overwater Villas on points and 2 nights with an Ambassador Weekend certificate on a Diamond Otemanu. The 4 nights on points now are marked as modified even though I have not yet gotten in touch with the resort. The Ambassador Weekend nights are still marked as confirmed.
