Nope, there is no British law that I know of which disallows free drinks. Would probably cause another 30 years war if someone tried to get such a law passed!

Free wine is in the lobby area, but it is unusual to get free choice of drinks in champagne bar. We had 7 between us worth around £100 if you include the service charge.

Just finished a 3 day stay at the Andaz. Upside - good location, free water. Got a suite which had the study area in the back connected to the bathroom. A bit strange.
Downside - the running water at the hotel. It's impossible to take a warm shower. The water is either too cold or too hot. In fact, it constantly fluctuates every 30 seconds from being hot to being cold.

We are at Andaz now, and had never any problems with water temperature. As others have mentioned there is noise when using running water, but presumably that is caused by their "vacuum-based waste system" which ejects "smaller amounts of water continuously until fully drained" per their card in the bathroom. The noise can be compared to starting off a helicopter. But it's for the environment.

The furnishings are pretty nice, and mini bar has some good quality snacks, like wasabi snacks, and some organic juice drinks+ water. Evenings there is some tiny snacks at the reception as well as wine, mornings they have pastries, and coffee and tea plus the same mini bar drinks day long.

There is quite a few restaurants, including japanese and a brasserie. Breakfast spread in the morning was fine, except for the coffee. It was freshly brewed, but had the taste of the worst hotel coffees ever. Luckily, being adjacent to Liverpool Street station means that there is Starbucks there on the ground floor for your bold.

Overall, this is a great hotel, and having been the first ANdaz it plays its game pretty smooth.

If you don't like the suite, ask them to show you another, this property all have different configurations for their rooms. I had them showed me 3 suites one time

I was there for my birthday last week, all my university aged friends love that place My friends were shocked I flew TATL on a weekend Stayed at a Large Suite in January and got a Large King last weekend. Andaz originally forgot my diamond upgrade so the manager send up a bottle of white and the breakfast at Eastway which my friends just loved. A bottle of white, 1L of rum, 700ml of vodka, 8 tallboys of beer, comp wine downstairs for 5 people, we had a fantastic night Oh well, i'll go write the TR for it. I have had the water be somewhat tempermental at this property as well, you have to adjust the dials very slowly to get it dead on.
I feel this property is finally getting its game together along with the Andaz Wall Street, i simply love those two properties.

totally!

I am ambivalent about the other two or three (never been to San Diego). But this one has a lot of character, and seem to get all the basics right. Although we did not get a large suite as in A WS which always treats us to their suite or Buttonwood Ste, Liverpool St ANdaz suite on a fourth floor did end up feeling pretty homey and comfortable despite tiny two bathrooms, king (or is it US queen-size) bed, small windows.

Their gym is very nicely arranged maybe because they have a lot of personal trainers working with clients. Next to the gym they have three showers, lockers, and a co-ed jacuzzi which is very nice. Their Eastway brasserie does a great grilled salmon and people all around are generally welcoming and pleasant.

Oh, and the light is switched on by regular switched rather than hi-tech invisible buttons! How cool is that?!

I'd definitely recommend ANdaz Liverpool St for a stay in London (St Paul's is a 20 min walk and close to the Millennium bridge and Tate Modern, and the hotel is also on Central Line of the tube.) ANdaz Wall Street and ANdaz Liverpool St totally get it!

Has anyone had a spa treatment at the Andaz? I purchased a groupon and wanted to know what to expect regarding the spa facilities and service quality.

Just had my first stay at this property and out of the four Andaz properties I've been to this is far and away the best.

The staff were smart and attentive. The property itself is far more attractive and sophisticated in style than San Diego, LA or Fifth Ave.

I arrived at 9:30 am and expected to just stow my bags until my room was ready, but when I asked if I could freshen up in a restroom I was offered the use of the shower facilities in the spa. Quite thoughtful.

I was emailed when my room was ready.

I wasn't sure where the wine was in the evening and when I asked the host escorted me over, saw that there were no canapes and immediately went and brought out a tray full.

Water pressure and temp were good and consistent.

Location is nice. Staff is excellent. Would be nice if the others could rise to this level.

I'm considering my first stay at this property next month... you may have just sold me. I love the Wall St. property as well; all my stays there have been consistently good. ^

Thanks for the report.....
How would you rate the beds in firmness?
We know this currently about Andaz beds
West Hollywood Firm close to Wall Street (experienced)
Wall Street Very Firm like a rock (experienced)
They can put foam on top for guests that are sleepless there to help
5th Ave Somewhat Firm but the best of the lot as per Gleff

During my November stay, the beds were extremely soft. If you've been to PH Paris or HR Mainz, the mattresses should be similar.

PH Paris always had very nice comfortable beds however they are not platforms if I remember correctly. Its been years for me..........
Andaz uses Platform beds which is why the beds typically are so firm
There is no movement without a boxspring to some folks delight and others misery

Not to rain on the party here, folks, but I'm surprised by how much everyone likes this property. Granted it's the only Andaz I've ever stayed at, but I was wholly unimpressed with my experience there.

To share some context, I'm normally frequenting international Grand Hyatt's, some domestic as well, the occasional international Park Hyatt, and a few SPG properties here and there. My obsession though is higher end luxury like Aman, FS, Ritz, etc - but not for business travel where Hyatt is my mainstay.

I posted earlier in this thread on my pros/cons to the Andaz London. But in general, I just didn't enjoy the experience. It felt like a "wanna-be" W, executed even more poorly. Granted it is new, so it appears quite nice, but the service, rooms, bathrooms, dining and location really didn't impress.

I'm actually finding it hard to find a good business travel hotel in London which is somewhat reasonable in pricing and service. I've stayed at the Trafalgar (a Hilton property) a few times, which was also so-so, but the location was great. I tried the Le Meridien Piccadilly which also had a great location, but again, so-so experience. The free suite upgrade was nice though there as an SPG Plat. Hyatt Diamond status did nothing for me at the Andaz BTW, except provide the rather inedible amenity. Incidentally, I don't fault them for that, I don't find much great food in the UK as it is. ;-)

Just my 2 cents...

London is one of those cities where the business culture is typically more stingy and overpriced.Even luxury hotels find it hard to cough up a complimentary bottle of water in the room.
As you state its very difficult to find a hotel that has a great location, good gym,
quiet rooms, comfortable beds, nice food and a very hospitable nature.
Business or leisure. The Hyatt Regency Churchill is working for me well enough
minus the awful health club. The former Park Hyatt had a great gym.
Chicken to try Andaz London based on a number of past complaints.Yes I do hear about positives there. And may try just one night in the future as a test
I am a fan of Andaz properties in NYC having said that minus the hard beds.
I do not see the Andaz NYC properties as W wanna bes they are vastly superior in every way.Can not speak for the Andaz in London

How far is Andaz London from Belgravia and Trafalgar areas?

I'll try the Churchill perhaps on my next visit. I had avoided it only due to the location. I prefer the Trafalgar / soho areas.

Trafalgar to the Andaz is, maybe 20 minutes by tube? Maybe 25? I even walked it a few times if you can believe that which took a good hour or 90 minutes. Good exercise though, especially if the gym is subpar. BTW, the gym at the Le Meridian is actually over the top huge and quite well furnished. That was a surprise. But I'm pretty much done with SPG these days. I status matched over from Hyatt to try out SPG Plat, but so far it's been a letdown. Much prefer Gold Passport benefits..
