Fifth UrCove is Chengdu City Center, opening Nov 15th, 2020.

I'm quite intrigued by the way these hotels are coded: Lujiazui is uc001 while Jing'an (the first announced) is uc002, there's no uc003 nor uc004, Wujiaochang is uc005, Nanjing is uc006, again no uc007, and Changdu is uc008. Wonder where else are in the pipeline.

Wow, so 3 Hyatt properties in 陆家嘴 and still zero in useful locations? I assumed they would use the new brand as an attempt to catch up on Marriott and IHG a little. The nice thing about low end properties is that they are pretty much everywhere, and taking over 168s and Green Trees isn't difficult (in comparison with acquiring an expensive piece of land and injecting $200+ million into it).

I actually really like the Andaz location and Xintiandi, especially for tourists. It's a quick drive to Nanjing Rd for meetings, The Bund, Lujiazui, Hongqiao so if you are going to have meetings or hit tourist sites in many parts of Shanghai then Xintiandi is one of the best locations. I highly recommend the Andaz or Langham next door (I personally prefer the Langham for being elegant whe Andaz is a little young for me now) but both are great locations.

The areas is also great for walking around for tourists as so much is accessible and so many restaurants and museums are within walking distance.

I visit Xintiandi at least once a week

It's not particularly close to any of those places unless you're talking about the section of NJ W Rd that is close to Shimen 1 Rd (also note that NJ W Rd is probably the worst transfer station I've ever experienced). I don't mind the south side of XTD quite as much as the north side because Line 10 is kind of useful.

The new openings reinforce Hyatt’s commitment to reach China’s underserved upper-midscale segment and strategically grow the Hyatt brand in China
CHICAGO (December 29, 2020) – Hyatt today announced that UrCove, the new hospitality brand developed under a joint venture between Hyatt and BTG Homeinns Hotel Group affiliates, opened its first five properties – UrCove Shanghai Jing’an, UrCove Shanghai Lujiazui EXPO, UrCove Shanghai Wujiaochang, UrCove Chengdu City Center and UrCove Nanjing South Railway Station. These new additions to Hyatt’s portfolio in these popular destination cities in China aim to better serve the highly mobile travelers in the upper-mid segment, which will contribute to Hyatt’s commitment to further expand its brand footprint and achieve meaningful growth in the region. It's probably not that big of a deal right now due to COVID. I do find it odd though that Hyatt still haven't solved this problem.

Just called UrCove Shanghai Jing'an and they are able to accept foreigners now. Unfortunately for UrCove Nanjing, it is still not available to foreigners as indicated below:

UrCove Hotels are currently only able to accept Mainland China guests staying with us according to the regulations. Once we can welcome guests from non-Mainland China, we will announce the status change. Look forward to meeting you in UrCove Hotels! During the epidemic prevention period, the green Health QR code and green Itinerary code are needed for each guest,Additional nucleic acid test report is required if guest comes from middle or high risk areas. Please confirm the reception policy with hotel before booking in order to smooth your stay.

While certainly better located than any other Hyatt in Shanghai (apart from maybe the Andaz), I feel the following statement from its website is a bit disingenuous...though not as bad as the claims made by hotels in former Zhabei (which reverse merged into Jing'an:

UrCove Shanghai Jing’an is located in the Jing’an central business district
I and travelinmanS actually used to live 5 minutes away, and it's not a terrible area (e.g. 15 walk to the Portman), but there's certainly no material business going on in the neighborhood itself.

Coming to you LIVE from the UrCove Shanghai Jing'an. I can confirm that non-PRC passport holders can indeed stay at the hotel now.

As far as my impressions, it's very similar to China's Hyatt Places, right down to the little robot waiter that brings basic amenities and shuttles around the property generally unnerving the clientele. Build quality is decent as it's a newly renovated location, and the design philosophy is as the renderings suggested.

Globalists get late checkout and free breakfast but no room upgrades, which is listed in the terms and conditions for the brand, but since Hyatt Places and Houses in China have given me upgrades in the past (including suites!) I wondered if this brand would follow suit. It would appear they don't. Suites out of the question anyway, since I haven't seen a room list for any UrCove property that had them as an option at all.

Overall a good value if you can get a special discount rate. No issues communicating with staff, though my questions were simple enough I could have used Mandarin if need be. A perfectly fine lower-cost option for Shanghai, and presumably Chengdu and Nanjing.
