.
At this point, continue to hold them and use for hotel stays.

Some parts of the system were massively devalued. Other parts were not. But in any case, 411k still buys you 1 to 2 weeks at a good hotel somewhere. Much more valuable than a small pile of FF miles.

Ireland, Middle East, parts of Asia, some random places around the U.S./Canada, etc. There's still some okay value out there.

You could get 5 nights in the two bed, Presidential suite in Waikoloa, worth around $8,000. That's a pretty good use of points if you want a fun trip away for not a lot of money, and surely better than converting to airline miles...

I am actually seeing some weird rates out there. For example at a cat 4, the redemption rate is 20K instead of 30K. Also a C&P rate of 8K + $40 instead of 12K + $50. These are all in Northern Va (NOVA) area in the summer, so that can't really be season variations can it?

Devaluation has started

Sorry if this has been discussed before... I wonder what happens if i need to amend a existing booking made before the changes? Do the old rules still apply as it was booked under the old rates or will i need to pay the difference of the new points requested?

Someone wrote here that if you need to change your existing booking, it will be under the new rates...

Per the T&C, ANY changes made to the reservations, no matter if booked before or after the changes, will be charged at the current (new) rates. The old rates are gone and can no longer be used.

You will need to pay the difference between the old rate & new rate if you make a change.

HH Point Devaluation Hitting Home

I know this topic has been well covered but really struck me this morning as I went to book a property for a Miami cruise. We had stayed at Conrad Miami and JW Marriott which are blocks apart and fully comparable properties. Pretty dismayed that I could book standard room Marriott at 25,000 points and Conrad was 70,000 (think it used to be 50,000).
I am a Marriott Platinum and Hilton Diamond and probably can't keep both up in a year but I am really thinking of focusing on Marriott as the reward program just seems more valuable. I was a Hilton defender against my Marriott colleagues and prefer their mid line props (Garden Inn, Embassy) but earning points with decreasing value is too frustrating.

I see a very poor and disappointing presence of Marriott resorts overseas - e.g., Tahiti, Maldives, and Seychelles. In addition, Marriott also devaluated its program as well, although not at the rate as HHonors did.

Agree that Hilton has the Far East knockout resorts but these are under my current radar for use. Marriott coverage seems superior in Europe which is one reason I started staying with them- we have travels to Paris/ Rome coming up.
I understand no program is superior for every user/location but if I can typically stay in comparable props for 1/3 to 1/2 points that is significant.

The complications, duration of travel and costs associated with getting there from us (except perhaps moorea) make me care very little about resort availability there...

I so agree with the above.......

Big deal about those resorts, I'll take Paris anytime and oh wait, Hilton has nothing in downtown Paris, whereas Marriott has 4 in the central core and a 5th a much shorter ride away on the Left bank than the Hilton in La Defense.

What now?

So what is the best program now? I have been diamond on Hilton and platinum on priority club for years. Gave Marriott a bit of ride this year with promos until they devalued. Who is worthy of our business now?

Consider Club Carlson (Raddison); their European (Blu) properties look very nice. Great 85K Visa credit card offer with low points requirements for free/cash + points nights. ^
